“She is perfect, thank you,” Elyna pressed her nose to the puppys. The weight of the dog in her arms was almost enough to stave off the endless sensation that she was missing something; Elsie. The dog would be a small distraction to prevent her mind wandering to their daughter and worrying about her. She lent against Malcolm’s leg, head pressed against his knee as his fingers moved through silky strands. The dog was quick to fall asleep and the skyrider was content to sit, relaxed against her lover until the weight of weariness fell heavy on her eyes. She felt the lids closing. It was tempting to simply stay, to curl up onto the bed with Malcolm and sleep in his embrace. She missed his warmth, especially with the cold wind and threat of snow. She missed his presence. She missed him. The young woman had remembered him, and all of the reasons that she’d fallen so fast in the first place.
An invitation was not extended however and eventually she stood. Legs ached from a long day, and they would only feel stiff in the morning. She tucked the puppy into her jacket and fastened the leather around the creature to hold it in place. Before leaving, the woman pressed another kiss to his cheek and bid him to stay safe, and sleep well.
Stepping away from the door she turned around to salute him, “bright and early sir,” she agreed before spinning on her heel.
