20th of Vhalar 716

It is said that when the Immortal Treid was slain, his heart was buried in the shadows of the ice, cursed by the Immortal Audrae. His people built a city atop the frozen wasteland in hopes of one day finding it and resurrecting their fallen leader.

[Global Event] Battle To The Tomb of Treid

Image
As the shadow fell across Vincent, many would have said that he was beyond all saving. And yet, as golden scales covered his form just as the Sessfiend moved to tear into him, they would all have been proven wrong. The Sessfiend fell back for a moment as its attack was intercepted, only driven back further as an Ithecal woman in white armor that almost seemed to glow slammed into its side, knocking it away. The flames of the Sessfiend, which burned hotter than any ordinary fire, licked at the white armor but neither armor, nor the white cloth hood and tabard were even singed. "Back, beast. This warrior and his allies are protected." she said, her tone proud, almost arrogant, but ringing with confidence and conviction.

The beast roared at her, and in a move that showed that Sessfiends were more intelligent than simple beasts, tried to rush around the woman, only to be intercepted by the white armored Ithecal, her tower shield slamming into the beast and pushing it back again. "Hmph. Smart enough to understand when it is taunted, but not so clever as to know when it is outmatched." she said calmly as her longsword swung out to gouge a deep cut into the Sessfiends right head. The hellhound fell back in pain, its attention now entirely focused on the Ithecal. Seeing this advantage, those soldiers of the enemy who were still left on the wall made a move to rush past the Ithecal and the Sessfiend.

Whether their intention was escape or to continue the fight, the Ithecal neither knew nor cared. "Was I not clear?" she asked as she raised her shield. "They are protected!" she said as she slammed her shield into the ground, the chest high Great Wall of Taithir spreading out to her sides to prevent any passage. "If you wish to pass, you must defeat me. I am Rex Chancellor Rhonwen of the Ivorian Empire, daughter of the Noble Serpent, and I decree that no foe of my mothers forces shall pass!" she said, her tone a ringing shout as she activated Serpents Hood, drawing them all into a desperate attack against the armored Mortalborn.

The Sessfiend took the bait first, leaping at Rhonwen. The Mortalborn's blade flashed out again, but this time the Legatius Lectura of the Ivorian Empire knew where the attack would be coming from and the blade cleaved the beast in two, felling it where it fell. The enemy forces paused and Rhonwen flicked her blade, splattering them with blood. "Attack or yield, servants of the dark ones. I tire of this game." she said, her tone cold.

The enemy forces hesitated for a moment, then launched themselves at the Mortalborn in a rush, attempting to overpower her with sheer numbers. Her blade flashed out again and again, severing arms, legs, and heads from her opponents while her shield slammed into those who got close enough, preventing her opponents from having any chance of overpowering her. Shortly after they started their assault, the survivors of the attempt to move Rhonwen yielded. Several of the Blades of Zafra had arrived as well, and she bad them restrain the prisoners before she deactivated her Taithir abilities and turned to Vincent.

"Are you well, Shield-Bearer?" she asked as she pushed back her hood and removed her helmet, revealing her dark hair and pale skin, and her features so much like her mothers. She grinned, and if he hadn't stood yet, offered him a hand to help him to his feet. "My brothers armor has served you well, I see. Not his greatest work," she rapped her knuckles on the breastplate of her own armor, which was some of Ethelm's finest work, "but it is still better than most you could find in the hands of mortal smiths." After a moment, she cocked her head to the side in curiosity as she looked at Vincent. "When my mother sent me here as part of the reinforcements, she said I was make sure you survived if I could. That is expected. What confused me, however, was the fact that she told me that you had to return to Rharne to face the wrath of your lady love. Did you get into some domestic trouble and flee to the battlefield to escape it? I assure, as tempting as it might be at first, the trouble with your love will likely be much easier to resolve." she said, her tone slightly lecturing, though it had a note of familiarity, as if it were just how she talked.

After a moment, she shrugged and put her helmet back on. "Well, no matter for that right now. We must still wrap up this battle, and their are those who still need our shields. Honor to Ethelynda, Shield-Bearer, and may you always serve as a ward against evil." she said formally before she slithered off to other parts of the battle.

[Global Event] Battle To The Tomb of Treid

He felt the woman's feet grasp onto him, taking him by surprise. He felt a wave of relief come over his body as he was lowered to the ground. The girl who had caught him was clearly not amused, she seemed almost angry with him at first. He wasn't sure if her question was intended to be answered, but he did so anyway. "I jump, man tell me and I no see better way." He half smiled nervous at the fact he had almost died and that the woman seemed rather frustrated at his stupid and insane actions. He was met with a warning to be wary of people, it appeared that the immortals had gone through with their plans to use him as an illusion. But that was followed with a remark that was almost comedic, about not wanting to waste her time. The girl seemed to let out multiple emotions in their short lived conversation, as the final thing she said sounded like he was a child being scolded. Then she again returned to flight leaving him behind bewildered by the grace in her flight. What a glorious race to be, he thought as he admired her wings.

The the tomb door burst open, much to the surprise of all who were gathered around the entrance. He reached for a weapon, the sword he had picked up earlier. Instead of the sword he found his hand grasping at the air as the two beasts emerged from the tomb. The giant snarling two headed dog and the giant insect creature, both struck fear into Ti'niva's heart and he found himself almost frozen in place. He was not stuck from fear, or by choice, instead he was stuck due to indecision. An indecision that lasted just a little too long as people around him began to flee and some stayed to fight. He willed his feet to move and as he did he felt them go stepping forward. His mind suddenly focused on finding a bow, or any weapon at all. He may just have been saved but he was ready to fight not to run. So he began to dart around looking for what he needed among thew bodies of both enemy and ally. Everything was soaked with blood, the floor was covered in it and the ice had begun to turn to a red mulch around the bodies. His mind struggled, the emotional side of him trying to tell him this was enough, no more killing. But his more rational and proud side forced himself to continue looking through the dead. However, he could feel himself growing weary, the stress and labour of battle catching up to him as the adrenaline levels began to lower.

At first it had seemed like a good idea, and he would have kept moving, looking for a weapon to fight with. But as he knelt down beside an archers body movement among the dead caught his eye. He felt his heart sink as he dropped the quiver of arrows he had just retrieved and instead went to the movement. His eyes locked with hers, a warrior woman, she must only have been 15, too young to fight, too young to die like this. It struck him now, harder than it had struck him in the whole battle. His whole life he had been surrounded by life, a forest full of it, everything was alive there. Here it was not, he was surrounded by a frozen waste and on top of that there was so much death. So much wasted life and it was life that was precious, as all life is. He dropped to his knees beside her and brushed the hair from her face, he took his coat sleeve and wiped the blood from her face. Tears began to fill his eyes and his vision blurred. He didn't even notice the portals opening and the reinforcements entering as he took the girl into his arms. A new found strength seemed to come from nowhere, or maybe somewhere deep within, as he scooped her from the ground.

He turned from the fight and carried the young girl, a bitter taste was in his mouth as he carried her. She was weeping and the sound was all he heard, her cries of pain shrill and piercing as she died slowly in his arms. The sound continued to fuel his efforts to get her to safety. The life draining from her with every drop of blood. "Moseke, please, help us, help her." The Xanthea cut through the fray of the battle behind him like a knife through butter. His tears burst out and down over his face. His legs burned from the effort as he walked faster towards the original encampment, towards the healers tents. "She is only a child, she does not deserve to die, please!" He screamed as he pushed through the burning muscles and the mental anguish. His calves burnt more than any other part for some reason, but he was too preoccupied to look down and see why. It appeared the reality of the battle had finally caught up with him and he was filled with pain, a pain he did not think he would ever truly shake. "She is no different from us, doing the bidding of her immortal mother, help her, give me the strength to help her." He stumbled almost falling to the ground. The only thing that stopped him was his belief in Moseke, he drew upon his belief to give him the strength to keep going.

He knew that there were many others that needed saving, but she had caught him and he was now too focused on it. Besides, he could not carry more than one person at a time, no matter how much he wanted too his strength was not enough to take more. He felt terrible for the other who were left to die and he may even have tried to help in some way but he could not think, not clearly anyway. Instead he carried the girl his one aim to reach the tents, maybe he was seeking redemption for the women on the stairs, he did not know. His feet began to drag as he drew closer, his eyes red and blood shot, the veins in his arms popping at the work. What he did not notice was the quietness that was now around him, the girl was still and her weeping had stopped. He was no longer carrying a wounded fighter but instead the body of a young girl, a body that would never move itself again. Maybe it was for the best that he didn't notice, if he had he might have lost all hope in even the Earth Mother.

The tents were just metres away now, so close, close enough that without the girl he would have been there in seconds. He would not release her from his arms, he was fixed on saving her. He was too fixated to notice she was dead or that the tents before him were burning and he was too fixated to listen to his bodies protests as his muscles tremoured and screamed at him to stop. The scream of his body was matched by a scream of his own, a scream of force that took him that last few steps. It became a mumble of triumph as he fell to his knees at the tents, his body slumping but his arms holding out the limp girl. The burning calves was explained now as he had not noticed all the cuts that covered his legs. It appeared that there had been more sharp pointed weapons in that mess of bodies than he had realised, and although he could feel the warm blood seeping over his legs he refused to let go of the girl and tend to himself. Instead he just knelt there, exhausted and weak.

[Global Event] Battle To The Tomb of Treid

Image
The half breed got back up towards the roof just in time to see the chaos and madness of Lisirra falling through the floor and the two (idiots) people trying to fight her. Or were they trying to escape? It was uncertain to say the least but in Night's mind anyone that got close to an immortal that had the same monstrous shape as Lisirra was a fool through and through. By that definition she quickly made herself something of a Queen of Fools. Wounded, slowly coming to the losing half of the battle as reinforcements came, Lisirra was in a dangerous position even for something that could be defined as a god. Yet Lisirra was still an immortal, a powerful being that had lived the equivalent of 1000s of Nights. Foolish was she who fought one such as Lisirra, but it was only fools brave enough to stand up in such a way who could truly become kings and queens. The existence of Etzos was enough to prove the might of the determined fool.

In one fluid and easy movement the half breed launched herself at the hole that had been created and allowed Lisirra to fall. The winged creature had easy access to where Lisirra had landed as well as a good amount of wing room for whatever fight might come about from her idiotic decision. Of course she was the first to get into the area compared to those who tried to enter the tomb from the stairs. Her eyes narrowed watching the madness that happened as three immortals stood in a room together. This was what it was like to see destruction right before one's very eyes. But her bravery didn't wane or waver, her decision became no harder to make. Lisirra had attacked people, innocent people as far as the half breed could judge. Surely there would only be more fighting and attacking. Surely her lady wouldn't frown on the decision she was about to make as she made it in hopes of protecting those outside from any further onslaught. There were people coming down the stairs to see what became of the immortal, they would need someone to protect them. She frowned taking a deep breath and summoning up all of her courage.

Wounded or not, Nightshade Eld was about to attack an immortal. She was going to attack Lisirra, try to incapacitate or kill Lisirra. There was the chance she was about to get herself killed. Why was she doing this? To protect some strangers coming down the stairs. And for what? People who wouldn't even remember her name? Even if she managed to kill Lisirra the monster was in the presence of her fellow immortal. Syora. A slight rush of fear and bitter hate ran through her and made her feel sick. There was no immortal that the woman hated more than Syora. Not even her violent hatred for Faldrun matched it. If she had to die she wouldn't mind drying trying to fight Lisirra and Syora.

The half breed made no noise to make her presence know, she would take whatever element of surprise she had left. She beat her wings once with all her strength. She swooped downwards as quickly as she could trying to land a hit and avoid a hit being landed on herself. With all the strength and speed her body possessed she tried, for her lady and for those who had died at the hands of Lisirra she tried to land the hit. For those that would soon come and find the two immortals, she tried to land the hit and make their job easier. With every ounce of blade and flying skill in her body she tried. When she got close to Lisirra her mind completely went blank and the rest of what happened seemed to flash before her eyes.

[Global Event] Battle To The Tomb of Treid

Hindered by her painfully maimed abdominal section, Lisirra tore herself free of it, launching herself into the hesitant crowd of soldiers with insane fury. Her under-carapace was not impenetrable to those on the ground trying to strike up at her. But the armor on her many parrying legs made it near impossible to get more than a scratch into the flesh beneath it.

She would maneuver to isolate two or three soldiers, turning on her side to bring the thick armor on her back to bear against the rest, as her spiked, clawed legs parried the efforts of the isolated few, the free legs spearing them mercilessly. Her multi-legged thorax, sprouting numerous dripping appendages, and heavy as a boulder, bore through the crowds unhindered, crushing some as the legs impaled others. And always, the fluids spraying upon those trying to find a way inside her defenses, rotted armor and flesh alike with venoms and toxins that could not be resisted. A great cloud of plague rolled along in her path, largely preventing an approach from behind as well.

A juggernaut of ruin and horror faced the soldiers of Idalos as their morale threatened to vanish in the face of a single rampaging entity that appeared to have no weaknesses to exploit by those left on the ground. But Lisirra did not figure on those that could approach from the air...
___________________________________________________
Audrae looked in alarm at the portals flaring here and there, elite soldiers and flying beasts joining the fray. Enough was enough. Not all her children had yet mustered at the rendezvous. But the rest would have to fend for themselves. It had been understood by the naerikk warriors from the start that their part was only a ruse; a ploy to give their Matron a chance to sabotage the efforts of the trio that were now going to be hard pressed to even escape with their lives. Audrae wished them a mockery of luck. She owed them nothing. And any of her children that had gotten too caught up in the adrenaline of combat had none but themselves to blame. They would be honored for their ferocity and sacrifice, but they would not be joined by the rest. Of those being opposed by these new arrivals, only she could be said to have won a measure of triumph. Satisfied with the outcome, she waved her host back to the shore to leave while the time was right.
___________________________________________________
With Audrae's departure, Syroa was able to wriggle free of the shadow encasing her and holding her imprisoned. Lisirra and the sessfiend had already stormed through the door, followed by a winged woman that Syroa was briefly caught by, in a reverie of reminiscence. Surely she was one of the avriel that she and Lisirra had perfected. Her choreography with her twin blades promising a glorious, bloody mayhem. As Syroa approached the door to follow as well, flashes of sudden blue brilliance cast shadows of her winged form onto the walls across the chasm into which any remains of Treid would have had to fall.

She peered out and witnessed Lisirra's mad rampage, her heart flaring at the purity of her partner's rage. They were such a pair! Now, rage once again blazed inside her own heart at the manipulations of Audrae, that had driven a wedge between Lisirra and herself. She shrieked once in challenge and launched herself into the air to see if she could locate her ally-turned-enemy. But there was no time as winged, armored beasts detected her and turned to bring her to ground. One or two she would not hesitate to engage, but there were too many.

But it was a truth of battle that a single enemy within a close rank of foes would be able to lash out with abandon, while the brothers-in-arms arrayed against her would be hesitant for fear of striking a friend. Her anger at Audrae desperately needed an outlet. She would take it out on these flying fools. Blood red madness filled her sight as she screeched back at the approaching drakes. She needed only to touch one to make a monster of it. Her wings beat at near hurricane velocity as she charged like a ballista bolt into their midst.
___________________________________________________
Aelig looked down from his invisible perch on the roof of the tomb. There was little left to try to gain from this fiasco now. He was unsure of what had transpired in the tomb below, but having seen Audrae escape unscathed, while Lisirra and Syroa both seemed bent on self-destruction, he could only assume the Queen of Deception had earned her title this trial. Well, all was not lost, he reasoned. There was plenty of bloodshed still on the agenda, and he had a few more illusions to cast for confusion's sake. He was free to leave any time he wanted, but this was still too interesting.

The coming collision of Syroa with the leading drakes was moving too fast for any subtle illusory trickery. And simply turning her invisible would probably not fool the riders, who would have already gauged the speed of her arrival, and would be expecting such visual games. He was about to cast an illusion on Lisirra to make her appear to be facing the opposite way, which would lure soldiers into the shredding zone of her legs, when a streak of dark was suddenly offset by the bright flash of blades streaking over her insect head.

Had he a face, he'd have winced at the stroke which so cleanly separated the antennas from her head. Without them, the giant bug would have greatly reduced awareness of everything around her. He shook his faceless head as the dark streaking woman flew by a second time, slashing through a seam in the carapace protecting her throat. There was really only one last illusion to cast. The giant insect was now surely a lost cause as it thrashed with little effect, not being able to focus on any one of the many blades now converging on it. But Aelig still beamed a smile in the dark void of his face at the damage it had done in what were probably its final moments.

The Tomb
Hot tears of fury and frustration poured down her cheeks as she fought against Aelig who hadn't even hurt her and she couldn't for the life of her work out why. But there was no time to worry about that now, no time to be concerned with it. She grabbed hold of Padraig and him, her, and they stumbled their way together to the stairwell. Down they went into the darkness and Faith tried to keep her feet quiet and her movements stealthy even as she tried to push down the feelings she could not deny for the man next to her.

The sights that she saw, that they saw, in that tomb would not leave the earnest young slave. The Immortals, the sheer power of them and what happened there would remain with her, linked with her tumultious emotions. As the events unfolded and the Immortals whose names she did not yet know for sure, but who she would be sure to find out about, to read up on and to learn about, should she live through this, as those Immortals exited the tomb and the bright lights flashed into the chasm, as the winged shadows danced across the walls, Faith knew what she had to do.

Famula had sent her here. She could do nothing outside, filled with warriors and free people. Filled with those who were skilled with weapons and words. That wasn't her, it wasn't what she was and it wasn't where she lived. Here, in the tomb, amongst the dead. That was where she lived, where she belonged. She looked at Padraig and the young slave pushed the last of her feelings away, storing them as she always did. She was here to serve and anything else would be serving only herself.

"I have to go down there." Faith said, quiet and calm. Down into the chasm. It was deep and there was a lot of unknown there, but it didn't matter. Famula sent her here, and she tended to the dead. Serious silver-grey eyes regarded her tutor and Faith suspected he would help her, but if he didn't then that was fine and she understood. So, by whatever means she, or they, could, that was what she aimed to do. Somehow, she was going down into that chasm to find the body that was there and bring it to the surface, so that it could be tended to properly, in Famula's name. Failing that, of course, she would tend to it there. But that was her job, her duty, her orders and the wishes of Famula as Faith saw them. Why else could she have been sent here, if it was not to tend to the dead?

It was dark there at the bottom of the stairs, but given all the other available choices, Padraig would have chosen to be right where he was. Presumably a battle continued to rage outdoors. But down inside the tomb, where he couldn't see, or even hear much of what was going on elsewhere, it was if he and Faith were in a world removed from all of it.

He'd lost his sword, though he still hoped to stumble across it. But still he had his knife and hoped it would be enough should it come to another fight. It might not. The place seemed to have been abandoned, and it was in ruins. When she told him she was going down into the large gash that had been opened in the floor, somehow Padraig wasn't surprised. He'd rather she didn't, of course. But because he knew that she would regardless, he resolved to go with her.

He'd go, because he couldn't let her go alone. Because he wanted to protect her, but not in order to return her whole to a man who ought to have been here protecting her himself. But also, in larger part than Padraig was prepared to admit even to himself, because he loved her. And what small part of her he had, he didn't want to lose. So where she went, so did he, but for different reasons than hers.

The Battlefield of Triedhart
Everything happened in a flash. The fangs of the monster coming for him, the golden scales that covered him and saved him from the beast onslaught and the warrior who slammed into the beast not even a trill later. Vincent was slow getting up, but was back on his feet a bit later, sword in hand as he watched the Ithecal woman fight. Vincent was still winded from his short dual with the hellish beast, and could do little more than stand as he spectated her bout with the beast.

After, a few bits and the use of Taithir abilities Vincent had only heard about she dispatched the beast and the few remaining warriors in the area, and passed of the rest to the incoming reinforcements. When she found him, he was just picking up Valeria's shield, and examining the large dent, and deep gashes from the creatures claw. Vincent winced at the sight. Valeria wasn't going to be pleased.

When the woman called out to him he turned and watched as she dropped her hood and helmet. Dark hair, pale skin, and a face that was almost the spitting image of his patron. Vincent recognized her from stories he had heard while he had worked with other Shield-Bearers. Ethelynda's other child, Rhonwen. It seemed the stories he had heard were true, she had all the grace and courage of her mother, though maybe a bit more pride and a little less humility than Ethelynda.

As the Ithecal woman cocked her head to the side, Vincent raised an eyebrow as she examined him for a trill before commenting on her mothers words. When she meantioned his 'Lady loved' back in Rharne, Vincent felt his face warm and was thankful for the helmet again.

"Wha... Wai... It's not like that." was all Vincent was able to get out before the woman saluted him and was off. It's not like that. Vincent thought to himself as he scanned the battlefield trying to plan out where he was needed most. Is it?

[Global Event] Battle To The Tomb of Treid

Gradually, the presence of chaotic forces thinned and the sounds of battle transformed into a mix of celebration over evil defeated and a lament of such widespread death. Soldiers, enthusiastically patting their surviving brothers-in-arms on the backs, turned to find others in sprawled, stiffening poses of agonized demise. As the hate and anger waned, even the sights of their mutilated enemies, those that were not illusory at least, brought a mood of self-loathing over what they had inflicted upon fellow mortals.

Still, such thoughts lifted quickly with the knowledge of victory, the safety of loved ones at home, and the hope of a respite from the scheming of such beings as those that were now conspicuously absent. Nonetheless, more than one accusing glance was directed toward the "good" Immortals that now moved among the triumphant defenders. It was not lost upon any present that all this death and suffering could be fairly laid at the feet of their kin. And right or wrong, it has ever been the tendency of mortals to give a share of blame to the families of those that commit such evil.
___________________________________________________
Syroa's last gesture of malice was sadly successful, if not fairly insignificant, in that it resulted in the death of only one of the Jacadon mounts. Even as she cast her transformative power upon its form, she did not consider that the helm it wore was of such enhanced sturdiness that when the poor beast's head tried to expand into the horrific form the Immortal intended, the helm caused its brain to be crushed within.

The rider, seeing what was to befall, took the first opportunity to drive his sword into the creature's head, as much to end its suffering as to prevent the threat it promised to present. As the dying beast fell from the sky, the rider leapt in faith from its back, to be snatched up in the claws of one the others.

Syroa raged in frustration, but took numerous blasts of retribution from the untouched mounts around her. Seeing the writing on the wall, she instead bolted for the sea. Pursuit was immediate, but she dove for the water, transforming into a lithe, finned sea beast that hit the surface with little more than a ripple. The Jacadons pursued to the best of their ability, but the riders were not prepared to submerge themselves and none of them, man or beast, could catch a glimpse of the villainess' form in any direction. Wishing "Chrien's Mercy" on her, they returned to find things being quickly wrapped up.
___________________________________________________
Neither Audrae nor Aelig, nor any of their forces now remained. Order had been given to make no strike against any other, and the illusory forms were all quickly detected and ignored. They wandered around in impotent threat, continuing to make as if engaged in combat, but these forms lacked the empowerment of the previous seasons' shadow creatures, and the swords and spears passed through true flesh with no effect. Soon they faded altogether, which most took as a sign that Aelig had fled.

Audrae as well was now long gone, her ships possibly a target for the Jacadons. Yet, the mood was no longer one of genocidal vengeance, and there was the report of words harshly exchanged between she and Syroa that made it look that she had not been a willing participant. Some even credited her for the stroke that had actually brought about the fall of the others' intended strategy. Several were reminded of Xiur's words, back in Ne'haer, that 'Such treacherous beings as these are surely already scheming their betrayals of each other. It is ever their way. They will not trust each other enough to wait until they have achieved complete victory before they begin undermining each other.'

With this recall, of course, new attention was given to his recovery, and all were assured that he would do so in time. And before long the young woman, upon whom he had bestowed his last conscious power, was brought back, borne on a litter, but stable and breathing steadily. No sign of the coward that had wrought this treachery was found, but it was assumed he would find his reward in the slave pits of Augiery. For now, it was gratifying to see both Xiur and Symbri, safe, warm, and smiling in their unconsciousness.
___________________________________________________
As for Lisirra, she quickly became the focus of the entire defensive force. The avriel woman that had sliced off the Bug Queen's antennae, had deprived her of much of her ability to sense her surroundings, and many of what would have been devastating attacks, found few targets. She herself, however had no such protection from the furious targeting of the throng of defenders that moved in coordinated attacks against her. Her carapace was soon pock-marked with open rents that became the lodging for dozens of spears.

As she writhed in pain, and even the beginnings of genuine fear, she exposed her underside all too often to prevent scores of sword strikes, many of which remained lodged there as she slowed, and were driven up to or even past the hilt as she finally collapsed in a gruesome heap. None were taking for granted that she was truly dead, however, and all converged on her now with steel and adamantite of every shape and function. Then the corpse was burned to ash. Moseke was grief-stricken to see such necessity wrought upon her sister, but made no move or argument for it to be stopped.

All was now in a 'wrapping up' mode, as the work of the collecting and burning, burying or wrapping of bodies went on. Healers were no less busy than ever, tending to the last round of wounds and peripheral infections from Lisirra's aura and spatter. Shared grief and horror brought many a brave soldier to his or her knees in tears and shame at the realization of their own capacity for violence. Even the dead naerikk were given a measure of honor, though the Ellune were ill-disposed to allow the bodies of their sworn enemies to soil their land with burial. Burials at sea were arranged instead for the warrior women of Augiery. It was hoped that the currents might bring them home to their own land.
OOC: This has been an awesome event for me personally. I can only hope the rest of you enjoyed it to the same extent that I did. I will wait a week and then do a last epilog. Faith and Padriag, you two are currently descending into the chasm torn open when Treid shattered. Gods only know what you will find down there...

[Global Event] Battle To The Tomb of Treid

Epilogue

Blood would stain the ice for arcs to come. Horror would stain the heart of Idalos as the memories of the shadow creatures fueled nightmares across the globe. Husbands and wives woke up screaming or sweating in beds no longer warmed by their loved ones; or woke to hurry to rooms where orphaned children cried for lost parents. Arms reached for comfort, only to find emptiness.

In Etzos, the heartbreak was tempered by the empowering hatred and grim satisfaction of having delivered a destructive siege upon the Insect Queen's city. And although songs were raised in boisterous taverns by brothers-in-arms, bonded in the fires of ruin in the jungles to the south, they always faded into hollow looks that ached to forget what they had seen.

Was this truly the price required to rid the world of just a single Immortal conspirator?

In Oscillus, the evidence of Lisirra's death still marked the ice in mute testimony to the sacrifices given by the heroic defenders and avengers of every major city; a broad streak of soot, layered into the melted and refrozen ice. There was talk of erecting a shrine to the fallen over the site. Plans began to be suggested for the exact parameters of such a tribute.

In true mortal fashion, it did not take long for the accord of remembrance to fall to bickering over the details; many representatives of this or that city protesting what they felt was too little or too much tribute to one city or another.

But it was not to be of any consequence...

Aelig had secreted himself easily enough, and had brought the maimed abdominal section of Lisirra's Insect Form with him. It had taken considerable focus to maintain and adjust the illusion of the fire reducing it to ashes for the sake of the soldiers of Idalos. Not only were there hundreds of soldiers on hand, who all had to be entranced to feel the heat of the flames from the right angle and intensity the entire time. There was also the smell of bubbling ichor to create in their minds, to replace the mere wood that was actually being burned.

'Let them celebrate.' he sneered inwardly. 'Their triumph will prove to be short-lived.' As much as he thought it would be amusing to wait until the shrine was completed before allowing the truth to be known, he did not have the means to enforce this timetable. It was not his decision to make. And she whose decision it was, had not earned a distinction based upon exceptional patience.

Maimed as it was, there were still eggs within Lisirra's discarded abdomen. The focus of one single form being fueled by the death and rot of all the others around it. But the form taking form within it was not a pupa, but a fetus; female, humanoid and aware.

Even with Aelig's protecting presence, it would take some time for the reborn infant Lisirra to hatch forth. In the time it took her to grow to sufficient maturity, Etzos had done serious damage to Rhakros. Perhaps if the Etzori military had known their most vengeful enemy was NOT truly destroyed, they'd have expedited their destructive agenda.

But it could not be said that their focus instead, on erecting a network of walled fortress towns in the wilds between Etzos and Rhakros, was misguided. Their near completed presence was all that halted Lisirra's immediate march to the north upon her return to her ravaged city; that and the Bug Queen's perception that the Etzori troops currently enjoyed the hidden support of some divine adversary.

Naturally, the Etzori troops present within her walls at the time were immediately afflicted with the most ghastly maladies she could generate; their own brothers striking them down with bows as they themselves quickly withdrew from the Plague Lord's sudden appearance, to prevent the spread of death and put them out of their misery.

The councils of the Tower of Ministers echoed with fearful and angry recriminations against those that had brought and spread triumphant but uncomfirmed news of their hated enemy's demise. Fingers of every hand present jabbed in every direction as blame and warnings of things to come were flung like poisoned darts.

It was, of course, decided that the public should be spared the panic of facing the truth. The only real question was how long before the truth faced them...
Here endeth the tale of the Vhalar 716 Global Event. Much was learned, but little was gained.

Moseke's blessing - Sevrath (+10 devotion)

Comments:

Good God! Faith is the perfect name for you. Such insane trust that the ultimate triumph or failure of your mission, or your own death or survival, will be the proper service to your Goddess. And the realization of your love for Padraig made the hell I put you two through on the rooftop so incredibly satisfying. I can not wait to drop you into the chasm. It was a little hard to tell if you meant to indicate that Syroa and/or Audrae were still there when you crept down into the tomb chamber, but I did not as yet give either of you any knowledge of them (There can be little doubt you saw Lisirra and Aelig! )

Now that this is over, I am going to start up a modded thread for Ethelynda to visit you.
Wow – what a great thread for Night. She got to be a hero, to do some real angst-thought uncertainty and she acted in character all the way through. Lots of detail in your posts, although the one that was nearly 5,000 words in one post nearly killed me! My favourite moment for Night was when she swooped in and saved Ti’niva – a real moment for her. Awesome writing – thanks for taking part!

Comments:

Well written, as always, and well played! Standing on a rooftop in utter chaos is not the usual time for a chap to realise he’s in love, but it was very honestly played. Love the inner conflict of his collecting up some blood from Xiur too – look forward to seeing what he does with that! I figured some folks would frown on that, fame-wise, but did not figure it to affect devotion.
