Seira smiled to herself as she got dressed for the trial. Totrial was going to be a good trial, she just knew it. She and Seri were going to give a small private concert for Lia and her Shadow Walker friends since they lost the scavenger hunt that they were challenged to a couple of trials ago. A thrill of excitement ran through Seira as she thought about it. Singing in general, and giving concerts was always something that she enjoyed greatly. It was a very good thing indeed to love one's work, and Seira knew that she and Seri were very lucky because of it.

But this concert was different. It wasn't the type of concert that she and Seri gave when they were working. Instead, it was a small, private concert performed for people that she liked. People who liked her in return. Not just as a performer, though they were definitely fans of her. But Lia, Carla, and their friends seemed to like her as a person as well.

When Seira went downstairs, she found Seri in the kitchen making breakfast. She smiled at her twin then turned her attention to feeding their animals. Her task was made more difficult when Ryu wound herself around her legs while purring in eagerness for her breakfast. Seira grinned at their cat as she reached down and scooped her up into her arms.

"This would go a lot faster if you just let me work, you know." she said playfully as she cuddled with Ryu.

Ryu's purring got louder as she rubbed her face against Seira's. It was clear that Ryu wanted attention just as much as she wanted her food, and Seira was happy to indulge her. Taerin and Meiryu jumped up on her legs, clearing wanting some attention too. Seira grinned again as she reached down and ruffled their fur while Ryu batted at her wrist in an effort to regain her attention. Seira laughed happily at the antics of her pets. She cuddled with Ryu for a few bits more before setting her gently on the floor beside her. By the time that Seira finished feeding the animals, Seri had finished making breakfast, and was waiting at the table for her.

Seira and Seri ate quickly and cleaned up after themselves.

"Do you want to practice for our concert totrial? Seri asked.

"We have a few breaks before we have to be there." she added.

Seira nodded.

"I think that that's a good idea. I was also thinking that we could let Lia and her friends choose which songs they want us to sing for them since we're doing this because we lost the scavenger hunt."

It was Seri's turn to nod.

"I like that idea too, Seira."

Seira smiled.

"We should still be able to get a good practice session in before we perform the concert though. Even if we don't know which songs that we'll be performing, we know what kind of songs that the Shadow Walkers like, so we can practice those." Seira decided.

"That sounds good to me." Seri agreed.

The Shadow Walkers are a consequence from this thread. As far as I know, they haven't been written up, but I use them from time to time as flavor NPCs.

The two young women headed upstairs. Seira began singing her warm up exercises while Seri went to get her fiddle before joining her. Once they were done, Seri asked which song they should practice first. Seira decided that they should practice Remember the Fallen first. She knew the song well...especially since she had written it when she was younger. But only an arrogant performer who was too confident for their own good ever thought that they were too good to need to practice.

Seira knew the song well, so she found herself paying more attention to her performance than the words of the song themselves. Instead, she paid close attention to the rise and fall of her voice as she sang. In doing so, she was satisfied with her performance of the song, so by the time they had run through the song once, she was ready to move on to another one. When Seri indicated that she was ready to move on as well, Seira asked her to choose the next song she wanted to practice.

In this manner, Seira and Seri practiced each of the songs they felt that the Shadow Walkers would want to hear them perform. After they were satisfied with their practice session, they moved on to playing with music. Seira got her hang drum out, and Seri did the same. Then they just...played. They didn't play any one song in particular. Instead, they allowed the notes of their instruments to flow from them at random. At times, their melody took on similarities to a real song. At other times, it was just a series of random notes; almost like stream of consciousness. There was no conversation between them. The two sisters were so close that none was needed for them to follow the same melody...even when it flowed without thought or reason. In that trill, it was as if they were one.

Seri was much more skilled with the hang drum than Seira was, and it showed. Her sister didn't make any mistakes as they played even when she wasn't putting any thought into it. Seira, on the other hand did. Her notes were true for the most part, but there was a hesitation in her notes; a slight hesitation as she kept one part of her mind focused on the mechanics of playing rather than on the melody itself. Still. Seri made up for the mistakes that she made, and overall they produced a pretty melody. And more importantly, playing together like this was something that Seira and Seri truly loved.

It couldn't go on forever though. Nothing good ever did, and it wasn't like the concert they were going to give would be any less fun for them. After awhile, Seira decided that they needed to get going if they were going to make it to Lia's house on time. So she signaled a halt, and Seri stopped playing.

"We should start getting ready to go now so we won't be late." Seira told her twin.

Seri nodded. As one they began putting their hang drums away. Seira watched while her sister went to get her fiddle before she headed downstairs. Once Seri joined her, they headed out the door.
