66th Trial of Ymiden, Arc 723

Ordinarily, Eli would have taken his midday meal in the backroom of his shop, or out one hand as he continued work on some project or other that, otherwise, he'd have been hard pressed to meet the deadline for some project or other. A deadline that for some reason or other, he'd imposed on himself. But the predictability of where he tended to take most of his meals, felt a little too much like having made a creature of habit of himself lately. A bad habit he wanted to break as quickly as he possibly could.

Routine, predictability, too much reliance on old worn out practices because they'd become familiar and comfortable...So far as he was concerned, too much of those things ran hard against the grain of progress, innovation, and imagination. This was a small rebellion against predictability then. Rather than sending Henry off to the market in order to bring him back something he could eat while carrying on working, like a meat pie or roll stuffed with sausage and cheese, Eli had gone himself and taken care to secure a basket full of options that might also please a palate somewhat more refined than his. And then rather than heading back to his shop, he veered away to Perdita's gallery instead.

Along the way, he'd paused before a notice that had been pinned to the outside wall of the apothecary; and spent a fair amount of time both intrigued just a little, and alternately frowning over the text written there in a very neat hand. Ultimately he'd pulled the notice off it's nail, folded it, slipped it into his pocket and took it with him to show Perdie. As for the basket, he'd even picked up a couple of nice glasses and a very nice bottle of sweet red wine. Eli wondered if Henry was right, and the small gesture of surprising Perdie with a nice picnic lunch would get him what, according to Henry, was a very nice tally of points that he could hold in reserve for the future.

Now Eli was fairly sure that the bookish and shy little cadouri who helped run his shop had never taken part in an honest to goodness romantic relationship. But he'd seemed sure as sure could be...because he'd read a lot of books on the topic, that if a fellow was to stupidly run afoul of his beloved's temper at some point in time, then she might call upon those previously stored up points in order to view him much more favorably over all. Mostly though, Eli was feeling starved and figured that Perdie might be as well.

"Hungry?" he called out once he'd entered the gallery and made sure there were no customers currently roaming about. Otherwise he'd simply wait around, attempt to stay out of the way and then join her when she was done. 'I figured I could use a break from the shop for a while, Henry can run things just fine," he said, grinning as he lifted the basket so that she could easily see inside. And then having passed her approval, he'd set it down on a table and pull out a couple of cloth napkins to eat on, and a couple of glasses to fill up with wine.

Lastly, as if an afterthought, he pulled the notice from his pocket and handed it to Perdie. "Look at this. It says here that the Thunder Priesthood is putting out call for scholars, archeologists, artists and historians that could put their heads together over the history of Rharne. Illaren too, and the people. They'll print it, and there's a reward, looks like. They're apparently going to use it to proselytize with..." Eli had some fairly strong thoughts about that last bit, but would just leave it unsaid.

"Anyway, stuff like honor, moderation, value of whispers...whatever that means, shouting and lightning." Lightning and and power therein caught his interest to be honest, and probably predictably so, but there were a few things that he thought were a little bit questionable. At least from his perspective. "I thought this was something you might be interested in, as an artist, scholar and a history buff?" he asked.

Then again, he frowned a little. "They're not calling on craftspeople though are they? But I guess if they're wanting something they could read, show and preach at people from, then gadgets and other things like it wouldn't be of much use." Rubbed him the wrong way though, and he couldn't deny it. He guessed though that what the priesthood was interested in here was a way to exalt and to return and hold tight to the past, and to encourage that way of thinking in others. It wasn't exactly what Eli did in his shop down the path. His trade was all about progress and innovation.

Still, it was an interesting thought and he wondered if Perdie might have an idea or two, or a different way of looking at things, seeing them in a way he hadn't considered just yet. He had other thoughts and strong opinions however about the past, the future, and the apparent mood of late around Rharne about changes that some folks didn't like. But he'd keep those to himself for now. Maybe later, but right now Eli was more interested in what Perdie thought of the notice, and if she had any ideas about it at all.
