Finding the Place (Part 2)

The boat taking them to the other side of the lake had actually left before dawn, they had luckily found a fish boat that was heading into that general direction and for a little coin they were willing to drop the couple off and come to pick them back up in a couple trials. Genna looked at the two backpacks they would be carrying on their hike, as well as a couple more bags holding stuff for their base camp. Genna had a cloak wrapped around her shoulder as she watched the massive lake go by. As she stood there she heard Pablo moving around the bags and then walk up behind her. He wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her close. She could feel his warmth and the comfort of him being so close. She was actually very resistance to the cold, but she wasn’t about to tell him that.
She rested her head against his shoulder as the morning light continued to creep pink and yellow over the world around them. The two were quiet for a while as they felt the gentle swaying of the ship and heard the men moving around manning the boat. Genna noticed they were all very professional and knew their job well and it required minimal communication, mostly just confirmation that such a task was done.
Pablo spoke at last his mouth close to her ear, but not so close he was blowing in her ear. “I wasn’t expecting to be going for a hike.” He said and Genna could detect there was a question in his voice.
“I wasn’t either.” Genna agreed, but continued. “I am not exactly sure where to start planning a wedding.” She said frankly. Genna was surprised that it was a bit hard to admit that was unsure on how to processed. “I mean as a girl I did have images and ideas of what would happen, but yeah not going with most of those ideas.” She said with a chuckle.
“Why not.” Pablo asked, curiosity and concern in his voice. “You should live your childhood dream.”
“No really its okay. I really don’t want that kind of wedding anymore.” Genna said fervently. She looked up at him and smiled. “For starters I want a you there, not some vague faceless man who does what he is told.”
Pablo smiled and briefly kissed her. After that he asked. “How about we start with when and where.”
“I am thinking that the where will be decided on this trip.” Genna said. Then she paused and turned in his arms and wrapped her own arms around his waist. “I actually think we need to ask under what Immortals are we seeking to bless our wedding.”
Pablo looked thoughtful. “I follow Ilaren, and feel that we should include her.” He said and though for a long moment. “Really not much more opinion on that. I know you follow more.”
Genna nodded her head. “I agree that Ilaren must be included. I have received Ymiden, Moseke’s, Daia’s and Ziell’s marks.” She looked at the lake, “I also think we can’t forget the spirit of the lake, Lovalus.”
“I hadn’t though about it.” Pablo said. “I would agree, but why do we need to think about this first.”
“I feel that I am looking for a place to build a shrine to Ymiden, and unless you really want to have our wedding at a shrine to Ilaren I believe that we are looking for the place we will be married on this trial.” Pablo looked down at her and then shrugged.
“As long as we include Ilaren I have no problem where we do it.”
Genna smiled but searched his face before deciding that he was being honest about his view. “Assuming this works out, when are you thinking would be a good trial?”
Pablo blushed a bit but Genna looked at him seriously her eyebrow raised. He grinned a bit and said. “I always thought it would be cool to do it on the 11th trial during the 12 trials of Zi’da. It’s the Eternity one and I know its silly.”
Genna grinned up at his and nodded her head. “Sounds like a good idea to me.” Genna really did think it was a good idea. She liked the symbolism and now that it was pointed out to her she was surprised that she hadn’t though about it before. She squeezed a bid hard and pressed herself against his chest. He pulled her closer and the two were quiet for a while longer before Genna said. “I would also like it if Faith Augustin would officiate.”
“The world renown adventurer?” Pablo said. “Do you expect her to defend us against monsters attacking?” He said teasing.
“No, dear.” Genna said smiling, “She happens to be a good friend. In addition she also serves Ymiden and Moseke as well. She also serves Vri, the Immortal of Love, and she is also on a first name bases with Ilaren.”
“I can’t really argue with that list of recommendations.” Pablo said.
“Good.” Genna said.
The talked about a few more issues but the conversation wound down as they arrived at their designated spot. They made sure to to avoid the strange markers setup by the Mer in the lake. Genna wondered about it and thought that maybe she would looking into it. It was hard to say if this was some sort of sacred spot or if they maybe were trying to get people's attention. Either way they wouldn't be setting up their camp within the area marked by these bables even if they came back to look into it later. By now it had been a few breaks since they had departed. Genna carried her pack to shore, but watched as the others were carried by Pablo and a couple of the crew members. Once everything was securely on the shore the boat took back off, while Genna and Pablo waved to them.
“Okay I think its time to set up camp.” Genna said. Pablo nodded and the two set about finding a spot flat enough for the tents. Eventually they found a flat spot, and Genna pulled out the list of instructions they had been given back in Rharne when they had approached one of Pablo’s friends who knew about camping. This was a crash course in camping for her, but Genna wasn’t so prideful that she would take good advise offered seriously. That being said advise and instructions could only carry one so far.
Much of the rest of the afternoon was taken up setting up the tents. It took a bit of experimenting before the had every pole in place and ever rope secured. The ropes really were a problem for Genna. She would secure one and find out on another she had done it to tight so she would have to go back to equalize the balance. Pablo helped but he wasn’t much better since his tent set up experience in the knights was around large ones that housed a number of Knights.
Setting up the rest of camp was an amusing experiences. The two had divided chores at that point and Genna tried her hand at cooking. Her future mother in law had kindly provided cooking instructions for preparing a basic stew. Genna ironically found her surgical experience helped here as she did an excellent job cutting the vegetables and chunks of previously cooked meat into bit size pieces. Actually if anything she might have cut some the vegies a bit to thine. She followed the instructions and soon had the soup boiling over the fire. Like with the meet the came with a premade bread.
Genna still remembered Pablo’s mother smiling kindly and saying it was clear that she hadn’t made bread. She had invited Genna to join her after she got back for a bread making trial, and just slipped in the premade loafs. She had given Genna instructions, and so Genna selected the best and flattest stones and put them at the edge of the fire so they could warm while the stew was being made.
It took the rest of the afternoon to finish setting camp up. Mostly because neither of them was overly familiar with all the process. That evening Genna served the dinner. The stew was more soupy, but it was editable, and the bread was a tad burned on the bottom, but still filling. So as the two sat on a blanket after washing the dishes in freezing water.
“Okay so what do you think about tomorrow.”
“Well we have more bread so we don’t have to wait all day for me to cook.” Genna said.
“You did fine.” Pablo said, and he had eaten everything he was served.
“I think we should head for that hill over there.” Genna said pointing off to there left a bit. There was a round top hill that looked like it would offer a good vantage point.
“Do you think that is the place.” Pablo asked.
“No. I just think it would help guide the way.” Genna said. Pablo nodded. “So do you want to dressed in your armor or just a nice suit?” She suddenly asked. “If your in armor I want us to match.” Genna said with a grin. Pablo leaned forward and kissed her.
“So what are you thinking for a dress.” He asked.
Genna’s eyes twinkled. “Sorry dear but where I come from that is a surprise you will see on our wedding.” She snuggled against him. “Are you wearing armor?”
“No, we have a ceremonial uniform that I will wear.” He said kissing her back. The conversation ended as they exchanged kisses back and forth.
