Name: Guardian Flower
Appearance: This flower has dark green stalks that grow up to 1' tall, and pointy dark green oval shaped leaves with serrated edges. The stalks have short thin spines that look almost like white bristles but they come off easily if disturbed, and can embed themselves in any exposed skin they come into contact with. These spines contain a mild toxin that will cause an intense stinging sensation much like that of stinging nettles. If someone gets pricked by these spines a lot while trying to pick the flower or harvest its leaves, the toxin can cause numbness that will last from a few bits to a few breaks depending on how sensitive the victim is to the toxin (and drugs/alcohol in general). When the toxin wears off, sensation will return slowly with a mild tingling sensation that feels like pins and needles that progressively becomes over a break then fades quickly. It is an annual plant that produces fragrant large blue, palm sized flowers. These flowers blossom only at night, and they appear to glow. During daylight hours, they close up into a bud like form. If the flower is picked, it will not close up again during the trial, and the flower will last for five trials or so before it wilts.
Description: They grow in forests and meadows, especially near streams, rivers, lakes, and other bodies of water. They can also be cultivated.
Frequency: Common near water, uncommon otherwise.
Level of Danger: Low due to the stinging pain and possible temporary numbness caused by exposure to its spines. Wearing thick gloves while picking the flower negates the risk.
Special Properties: The flowers, leaves, and the dew collecting in the flowers before the sun has risen are edible
Additional Information: These flowers are difficult to grow in a garden because they are an invasive plant that will spread quickly and take over a garden if not handled properly, they require specific nutrients in the soil that may be difficult for an inexperienced gardener to provide, and their spines present some risk to the unwary when weeding near them but they can be grown by someone with expert gardening.

Hi Seira.
Few issues with this:
Few issues with this:
- Ragweed? Why does a ragweed allergy cause this effect for this flower? Why?
- So anyone allergic to Ragweed will get paralyzed by this flower? That's a lot of people. That'd make this a vile little flower and pest that no honest person would want in their garden.
- It also has medicinal properties? I'm going to ask that you choose between healing or paralytic. Not both. It's fine if it glows.
- It needs to generally skew toward doing one thing. As it stands, this thing kills, feeds, enhances, heals, and paralyzes as far as I can see. Choose one of those things that it's capable of.
- It grows prolifically but needs a master gardener to grow? Why?
- This plant, in short, is entirely overpowered and shouldn't be at all prolific. How would bugs and birds even get close to it to pollinate, when it's stems paralyze them?

Re: Guardian Flower
I picked ragweed at random as it was the first plant allergy I thought of and I wasn't sure if ragweed would be as common in Idalos as it is in the real world. I was thinking the extreme reaction would be a very rare thing. This has been changed.Pig Boy wrote: ↑Sat Nov 26, 2022 2:21 pm

I picked one thing as requested, but may I ask why? Admittedly four things might have been too much, but there are many herbs/plants that are both edible and have medicinal uses. Two common ones being mint and sage.[*]It also has medicinal properties? I'm going to ask that you choose between healing or paralytic. Not both. It's fine if it glows.

I honestly hadn't thought much about the latter save that the feathers of a bird would prevent the spines from embedding themselves in their skin. As for the master gardener, I was thinking along the lines that some plants don't thrive well outside of their natural habit so would need a more skilled gardener to grow them. This has also been changed somewhat and explained.[*]It grows prolifically but needs a master gardener to grow? Why?
[*]This plant, in short, is entirely overpowered and shouldn't be at all prolific. How would bugs and birds even get close to it to pollinate, when it's stems paralyze them?

Re: Guardian Flower
Hi Seira,
While the ragweed plant itself may not be common in Idalos or even appear in this part of the world, the allergy itself is very common among people. And having that as a benchmark for how allergenic the flower is setting it very low. It essentially renders the places that carry its pollen with a miasma that paralyzes/kills as it was.
That said, I'm happy with the changes you've made. Different things can be made from the flower for sure, and possibly new uses can be discovered, but that should happen in roleplay maybe, with a mod note. I'll note that not all of the properties have been thoroughly explored.
