Finding The Place (Part 1)

Genna sat quietly looking out the window in her room. It was barely light outside and as the dawn was coming later. The platinum haired woman had woken before dawn, and had found herself wide awake. There was something nagging at her mind, it was like a dream had slipped her mind. So it was that she had retired to her dressing table by the window and while combing her hair Genna had looked out the window and watched the down touch the opposite side of the lake in the distance. Her combing stopped mid stroke and she looked at that shore. There was something about that shore. Genna realized that she needed to go there. Something was there in the hills beyond the lakes far shore.

Genna set down her brush and braided her while keep her eyes on the distant shore. She then stood up and went to get changed. Genna was expecting Pablo to stop by for the trial, but before she had to get ready and also make sure Lillabell got off to school.

Pablo arrived at the designated time and Genna was actually waiting for him by the front gate. He smiled at her surprise on his face at see in her waiting for him. He looked down at the clothing she was wearing. Genna wasn’t wearing pants, no one could call them pants. They didn’t even hint at the shape of her legs, but she also wasn’t wearing a skirt, though what ever she was wearing certainly billowed out before gathering back at her ankle. Her shirt was simple, but not really different from what she normally wore for a work trial. The boots were actually an older pair that had been well worn in. Genna smiled at him and patted the step next to her Pablo moved and sat next to her and slipped his arm around her shoulders.

“What’s up dear?” He asked her and she smiled at his tone.

“You sound nervous.” Genna said leaning into him and laughing.

“Genna love.” Pablo said shaking his head. “I love that you are an honest, organized, and smart woman, but that also mean I know that when I see you dressed like that you got some type of summons.” He did pull away from her as he said it.

“Does that bother you?” Genna asked her voice serious.

“You’ve asked me that before.” Pablo said. “The answer now is the same as then. I will always worry about you and want to protect you, but I will support you.”

“I am glad.” Genna said and put her hand on his check and reached out and kissed him. Then smiled as she pulled her head back. “On this trial I would like you to come with me to answer my summons.”

“That I can do.” Pablo said leaning his head against hers so that his face was buried in her hair. “What is the summons to this time. Stopping an invasion of acid spitting frogs.”

“Where did that come from.” Genna asked in surprise. She could feel him smiled even as his face was pressed against her hair. The young woman only waited a moment and realized the answer was from her beloved’s own silliness. “No, actually I feel that I need to go for a hike.” Genna felt Pablo’s face jerk upwards in surprise. Genna wasn’t lazy but she didn’t go for hikes. “And in the hills on the other side of the lake.”

She looked up to see a confused expression on Pablo’s face, Genna smiled and said. “You should enjoy that.”

“I would love that.” Pablo agreed. “Though you are right clearly this is a summons.” His face grew thoughtful. “It must be Moseke.” He said.

“No its not her.” Genna said not able to actually argue with the logic of that statement. “Ymiden is the one calling me.”

“Did he appear to you?” Pablo asked.

“No.” Genna said. “Its not one of those kinds of summons, its seem more like a suggestions really rather then a summons.”

“I wouldn’t know. Ilaren tends to shout her summons at someone.” Pablo said. “Though usually that has to do with the fact that by the time she gets around to it she drunk half the barrel.”

“It takes a lot to get Ilaren drunk. I know.” Genna said. Pablo chuckled.

“Oh its not her, she just has to shot over everyone else who is drunk.” He shook his head. “It is odd that you know Ilaren personally.”

Genna shrugged. “Not really. Ilaren is one of the most active Immortals. Remind me to make sure she is on the guest list.”

Pablo stiffened. “You really want to invite Ilaren.” He said his eyes wide.

Genna smiled and patted his check. “I already have Ymiden, Moseke, Ziel, Daia, and Lovalus if I can figure out how.” She then stood up. “Well if we are going for this hike lets get going.”

Pablo jumped up and said. “Totrial?”

“Oh course.”

“Love. No I have been over there with the Knights, we would get there and then have to turn back.” Pablo said and Genna looked at him with a raised eyebrow. “I am sorry to say it.” His grin said he was anything but. “This hike is going to require a camp out.”

Genna’s professionalism took over at this point and she nodded her head accepting his statement as a fact. She hadn’t ever been to the other side of the lake, he had, to try and deny well wouldn’t be in character. She nodded her head and said. “Alright lets get this arranged.” Genna said “Can you help me do that.”

Pablo looked a bit embarrassed. “I like going out for a hike, but something like this I think we need an expert.” Genna nodded glad he had been honest about the situation. So together they departed to make the necessary arrangements.

It appeared that some of Pablo’s friends in the Knighthood did like camping, and gave them a surprising long list of this to bring. Genna went down the list and could see the logic of most things, was surprised by a couple things, and was flatly to no and why on other items she though would be useful. “You want to be able to carry what you need on your back.” Pablo’s quartermaster friend said in answer. “Go hear and purchase these bags. They are better for hiking with. They allow you to attack things on the sides and outside so you don’t have to dig in your bag so much.”

Genna was actually tempted to call the thing off, but she didn’t give in to the temptation but pressed forward. She and Pablo ended up spending the trial purchasing necessary supplies for the hike, and Genna used the opportunity to also get do a little wedding shopping. While people kept telling her it was her trial, Genna honestly wanted to hear what Pablo wanted and what he liked. There were things though that she wouldn’t bring him to shop for. He was just going to have to wait and see what the wedding dress looked like when it was on her. Though in regards to that she wanted to talk with Faith about that the woman was a geniuses with dresses.

After the shopping Genna discovered that the preparations weren’t done. Pablo had taken very good notes from his friend, and so the library in Genna’s house was covered with supplies, while Pablo packed his bag and encouraged Genna while she packed hers. The young woman was rather proud when she had neatly gotten her stuff setup. Pablo looked at it and nodded his head.

“Now put it one.” He said, and his voice was serious. Genna brough her eyebrows together and slipped the pack on. She could barely lift it. “Okay lets move a few things to my pack.” They did that a couple times until Genna could carry the bag. Eventually Pablo felt they had followed their instructions as much as possible. The two collapsed on the couch arms around each other.

“I see that all girls school missed a few lessons.” Genna’s dad said from the door way where apparently he had been watching for a while. “Come on you two dinner is read.”

Genna sat in the couch for a moment before pulling herself up. Pablo groaned but stood up and followed the two to the dinning room. It was a large room designed to host many people, but they had set up a small table in for just the four of them. Genna liked having Pablo join them for dinner, and what was more she was discovering that she like getting used to the thought that he would regularly join all of them for dinner.

Skill Review: All Skills used appropriately to PC's level

Consequences: Genna hears it through either people on the street, from fishermen in the Rharnean Earth Quarter, or else other hikers who decide it's a fine day to go walking outside; The Lovalus mer have been seen to stir on the eastern shore of Lovalus. Now the tribe that lives in Lovalus has always gotten on peacefully with the people of Rharne, so this in itself is not cause for alarm. But they have been placing strange effigies in the trees, of shining baubles and shell-like jewelry that reflects light well in the darkness. Like little warnings against approaching rowboats.

As far as anyone knows, this is not a negative sign from the Mer, but perhaps a sign that they wish to make contact with the people of Rharne, which is a strange occurrence.
Notes: I really enjoyed this solo. It's interesting how Genna considers a sudden feeling and attributes it to a sign from her Immortal, and I'm guessing this is where the whole 'shrine to Ymiden' plot will begin. I'm looking forward to seeing more in this vein soon. Anyway, Genna is meticulous as ever in her preparations for a hike, to her summons to the Lake.

I've added a consequence that you might enjoy making use of, when she gets there. Enjoy! Good writing!
