Whisker Rainbow Glass Eel
Developed by Oram Mednix
Price: WT 6.Habitat: Whisker rainbow glass eels live in the Whisker River and its estuaries and adjacent ponds
Forum Location Scalvoris/Surrounding Waters & Landmarks
Lifespan and Development: These eels breed in early Ymiden, with eggs hatching around late Ymiden. They take roughly five arcs to mature fully. They burrow in the silt on the floors of ponds and slow-moving creeks, in which burrows they lay their eggs in the Ymiden, and hybernate during the Cold Cycle. They take two to four arcs to mature, and can live upwards of twenty arcs. They typically reach lengths of around half a meter (eighteen to twenty inches)
Diet: Small fish and crustaceans, including crayfish.
Temperament: Skittish. Prone to bite if handled incautiously, like most eels. They won’t attack humanoids unless cornered and threatened.
RPG Abilities:
Ability 1 Camouflage. Rainbow glass eels are partly transparent, and nearly invisible when motionless, except for during their mating season in early Ymiden, when their bioluminescence (see below) is at its most intense.
Ability 2 Bioluminescence. The rainbow glass eel emits a multi-colored glow when it moves, and during its mating season. The more it moves, and/or the closer to its mating season, the brighter and steadier the glow. Since their bodies are otherwise transparent, the eels can often seem to appear and reappear as intermittent filaments of spectral light.
Weaknesses:
Weakness 1 The two abilities above work against one another. The eel cannot voluntarily control its luminescence, except by not moving.

Use 1 Food.
Use 2 Nothing. Unfortunately, the bioluminescence is produced in the muscle, and only manifests as long as the meat is fresh; this is, in fact, a method for determining the freshness of the meat: shaking the eel vigorously to see if it still glows.

Capturing It: Competent.
Danger: Slight. Bite is painful, but rarely dangerous.
Tending It: Competent. Care for them is no different than any other eel.
