[Hopetoun] Hickory Dickory Dock

Image
Arc 721, 50th of Ashan
The waves of the Hollow Sea lapped at the wooden piles, encircling them afresh with every relentless current. Salty foam swirled

Jarad Bathrild, a giant of a man with an equally large work ethic, stood at the water's edge in bare feet, staring out to the distant land masses across the sea. His socks were stuffed into his boots, which were in turn standing alongside each other on the orange sand like soldiers on parade, as the warm liquid swirled around their owner's toes.

"So," the large man spoke, still looking out to sea, "y'reckon this is the place, yeah?"

Darius sent a brief glance towards Vega, before turning to face Jarad's back.

"Aye," he answered, confidence discernible in his voice, "this is the place."

"A'right," Jaradd said, turning around to look back up at the bearded blond. "You's the boss."

It was a new reality that Darius had had to grow accustomed to. People looked to him to make decisions, and he rarely had an abundance of expertise to lean on, but he and Vega had agreed that this gentle cove, which was sheltered at either end by rocky cliffs, was a good place to build a dock. It was a short walk from Hopetoun, while the crosswinds and occasional rough waves of the Hollow Sea were broken by the headlands that trailed down from the mountains and foothills in the South-Western corner of Faldrass.

Although he was no master builder himself, the founder of Hopetoun had used enough docks and wharves in his time as a mariner to know the value of a sheltered harbour to protect ships from the raging tempests that could be found at sea.

Jarad walked up the beach to collect his socks and boots, then rinsed his feet and shook them dry before he shod them.

"We'll need foundations, to begin with, we will," the man said as he turned to face Darius. "And lots o' 'elpers."

"Aye, you'll find plenty of hands willing to be put to work," the blond baron nodded with a glance towards Vega, "including ours."

His shoes now on, Jarad nodded, and began to walk the short distance back to the settlement, leaving Darius and Vega behind.

"This is a good place," Darius said to the redhead, "and having a dock will be such a boon for Hopetoun."

It was true. Up until that point, ships had been forced to anchor off the coast and send rowboats in to shore with any passengers or goods they wanted to transfer. Soon, they would be able to berth alongside the dock and unload their cargo with significant ease.

Hopetoun Docks
Vega watched as Darius and Jarad spoke about the docks and what they were going to do here. She nodded when Darius spoke of where he'd decided and she grinned at Jarad when he said that Darius was the boss. As they stood and looked at what was happening here, four tall biqaj males approached. Darius and Jarad might well know them - probably did, in fact, since they were as much a part of the community as Vega and Arlo were, but still she introduced them. "This is my Papa, Joq'an, an' my cousins Huw, Reese an' Shon. They're here to help, too, an' they're pretty handy." That was, in fact, high praise from Vega. To the family members, she nodded. "You know Darius, an Jarad I'm sure, but jus' in case." Smiling at the two men who were here, she explained ~ again realising that she probably didn't need to. "I'm handy at buildin' stuff, an' woodworkin' especially, but I'm also in the family way. So, these lads will do any heavy liftin' but I won't be." Her father nodded at this. Now was probably not the time to discuss how pleased he was that Vega was taking that stance and not flying off to do everything she could simply to prove that she could. But he was pleased, as were her cousins and that made them all very happy to help.

When Jarad spoke of the foundations, Vega nodded. "I've been thinkin' about that," she said. "An' I reckon that the pilin' is best done in hardwood, an' with the wood treated, before it goes in. We want to make sure that we've got things sturdy here." Looking between the two of them, she shrugged slightly. "I've never built houses, never lived in one - but we'd often help out with dock repairs an' boat repairs, when I were growin' up. " Jarad nodded and Vega smiled at him. "I reckon the best bet would be to make a small floatin' dock that we can use to extend the main docks once it's built. In the meantime, we can use that floatin' one to build the permanent ones?" Joq'an, her father nodded his head but it was Reese who spoke. "Eva is correct," he said. "Make the floating dock, secure it. It is sensible to have it then to extend your docks, should you be expecting large numbers, or as a secondary one should yours be damaged."

"Luckily," Vega said softly, "buildin' a floatin' docks is relatively easy an' we can make the pilin's at the same time." Vega was more than happy to help however she was best able to, but she was very aware that this was Darius' bat and ball and he was, very much, captain. "If it's what you choose to do, Darius," Vega said, "The floatin' docks is a deck, basically, a framed deck with floatation on the underside of it."

Looking around, she raised an eyebrow. "If everyone's happy, we've worked on that sort of stuff before, jus' helpin' an' repairin' an' things. We're happy to help out." Her father nodded and her cousins too. "What do you reckon boss?" Vega looked at Darius and smiled. "With a floatin' extension, you can have a bigger docks, but you can also string lanterns up on there, an' have floatin' parties. We've had a few of those in our time, an' they can be well lovely."

If they were all happy to do it that way, Vega's suggestion was simple. "Then, if you big burly blokes," she said to her cousins with a smile, "don't mind goin' an' gettin' the wood we need. Shon, get the stuff we use to treat the hull off the Dreamer, would you? While you're all doin' that, us three," she said, gesturing to herself, to Jarad and to Darius, "Can get the templates goin' an' then we can get started. Once we've got examples of everythin' we need, an' numbers of how many, then we can get all hands workin'." If, of course, they were happy. "Oh," she added. "Doran's meetin' us down here, so he can help with the waterproofin' an' stuff, too. He's quite handy, you know." She grinned at Darius. "Someone should make a leaflet about him."

Vega's family members were greeted with the vague familiarity of passing acquaintances. Darius had met them, he knew, but he was finding it difficult to remember the name of every person who was making a new way of life in Hopetoun.

It was, he realised, a skill he would need to work on.

As Vega shared her ideas, Darius listened. He had quickly come to learn that the redhead was not someone worth ignoring. And when he saw Jarad nodding in understanding, and the tall mean quietly assured him that such a plan could work quite well, the bearded blond quickly found himself in agreement.

"Aye, I like the idea of a floating dock," he said with a nod, before chuckling at Vega's mention of pamphlets. "And Doran is a good man. I'm sure he will be a great asset to this project."

Darius knew Doran mostly as a swordsman, but he had heard tell of the man's alchemical talents, and though the baron himself did not fully understand what such things entailed, he knew it couldn't hurt to have another mind considering how to solve any problems that they were sure to be faced with.

"I'd better get back to Hopetoun to help Jarad," he said as the giant man was leaving the beach. "He's more skilled with building structures than with persuading others that he can't do it on his own."

A gentle smile formed at his lips, to show that his comments were lighthearted and not meant as a serious criticism, and then Darius Baer began the short walk back to his settlement. A few steps in, he paused and looked back at Vega.

"Thank you," he offered sincerely. "You're making a big difference to the Hopetounians' lives."

A brief pause followed, and then he went on his way.

Arc 721, 51st of Ashan
Early the following trial, Darius was back down at the beach. The quiet lapping of the waves was now accompanied by the murmur of voices as the baron surveyed the group that had gathered. Between himself and Jarad, they had managed to persuade a dozen settlers to join them. In fact, they had taken little convincing, for they could all see the benefit of having a dock. In fact, were it not for other essential tasks that required attention, such as tending to farmland, hunting and fishing, and replenishing other resources, they probably would have had twice as many volunteers.

Along with Jarad, Darius, and the settlers, Vega had brought her father and cousins, and Doran had also graced them with his presence. Further up the beach, a stockpile of gemmi wood had also been gathered, courtesy of Vega and her cousins. Darius had spent several bits examining the curious looking wood, and marvelling at the variety of greys and silvers that marked its appearance.

But now, he stood near to the water's edge and addressed the group.

"Thank you for coming, all of you," he spoke, projecting his voice so that he would not have to fight against the sound of the gentle waves. "As I'm sure you can imagine, building a dock here will help Hopetoun immensely. You are improving our settlement and providing greater opportunities for us in the future. Ships will be able to berth closer to shore and unload their goods. There will no more be a need to transport everything by rowboat!"

That comment brought wry grins to the lips of many of the settlers, who had all had to endure the painstakingly slow and awkward journey from ship to shore when they had first arrived.

"Jarad Bathrild will be leading the construction work," Darius continued, patting the large man on the shoulder, "and I will trust you to follow his instructions. Before we start, however, Vega will provide some insight into what the docks will look like, and Doran will be explain how he will be improving the materials we use."

The bearded blond stepped back slightly, and extended a hand towards Vega and Doran, inviting each of them to speak.

Re: [Hopetoun] Hickory Dickory Dock

More than twenty trials had passed since the son of Ziell had last set a foot on Faldrass. He was looking forward to spending a longer amount of time in Hopetoun. The first time, he had only stayed for a handful of trials, but during that short time, the settlement had become a refuge of sorts, not unlike what his dreamscape in Emea had been for him once upon a time. He had felt relaxed and at peace there, in spite of the coming war. He had found community and companionship there which were things that were a somewhat rare occurrence.

As he made his way towards the beach – he had offered to help Darius and Vega build their dock – he could not help but wonder about what had happened after his departure from Hopetoun again, his departure that he could not remember, no matter how hard he tried. He had been researching the war, and then something had happened. Eight whole trials were missing from his memory. There was a feeling that it would be alright.

He was disinclined to trust that feeling entirely though. He had been wrong before, about his feelings and about the world in general. Something had happened, but what had it been?

Shaking his head slightly, he decided to focus on what really mattered at the moment. He wouldn’t be able to solve the problem of his missing memories, at least not right now, but he would be able to help Hopetoun. Since he had first set a foot into the settlement, it had a special place in his heart. For that reason, he smiled at the people that were gathered on the beach, a genuine smile, as he approached.

“Darius, Vega”, the Mortalborn who was dressed more casually than he would have been in Viden greeted them and inclined his head. He decided that he was looking forward to catching up with them and exchanging stories with them later on. “It’s good to see you again. I’ve already given the matter of improving the materials that you plan on using sufficient thought”, he remarked as he stepped forward and let his gaze drift across all of the gathered people – Jared and the other settlers were a part of this as well and should not feel as if they were being excluded from this conversation – before he continued.

“Darius, you told me that you want me to waterproof the dock”, he spoke in a calm and deep tone of voice and looked at his former student for a moment. “Oil is usually used to make clothes waterproof. For that reason, I would suggest simply transferring the properties of oil to the wood. You plan on using Gemini Wood?” he asked in order to be sure and nodded at the pile of silvery-grey wood nearby. “Normally, I would suggest adding another layer on top of the enchantment in order to protect it from the elements, but Gemini Wood naturally possesses a certain resistance to the elements, and thus such may not be as necessary”, he explained before he paused and furrowed his brow fractionally.

“Is there anything else that you would like my help with?” he finally wanted to know.

Hopetoun Docks
50th Ashan
They seemed pleased with her ideas and then, Darius spoke and he confirmed that yes, that was what they were happy to go with. Vega was happy and was more than happy to get on with her part o f it. The idea of a floating dock was well received and she nodded her head to that. They agreed to separate and get on with what they were getting on with and Vega nodded to the two of them who were leaving. Darius started to walk away and then he stopped and turned back. That surprised her, but when he spoke, it surprised her more. His words were sincere and she was more pleased than she could express at them, but she had to answer. And so, answer she did. Two words were all she needed. Two words were all she needed to say and so she spoke them.

"It's mutual." Her smile was brief, but heartfelt, and she turned then to her cousins. "An' you lot can shurrup. Is there nothin' you need to be doin'?" They made themselves scarce, and quickly.

Sensible lads. "Come on, lets get these templates goin'," Vega said, and got to work. By the next trial they would have everything they needed from her. The others, she'd have to trust to do their own bits of this and - thankfully - she did.
Hopetoun Docks
51st Ashan
As the next trial dawned, they were ready. Vega had asked her father, her friend Escher and her three cousins to come and help out. When Doran arrived on the beach, she smiled at him in genuine pleasure. He was prepared and Vega was happy to see that he looked more relaxed than she'd seen him previously. That was a very good thing. Equally, she knew that she too was more and more relaxed every trial. She worked hard here, but it was a different kind of thing. Here, she found companionship and friendship and acceptance. They were rare gifts, indeed. "It's right nice to see you," she said softly to Doran and then turned her attention to Darius as he spoke. Darius laid out what they were going to do and then he asked her and Doran to speak.

Doran was improving the materials, and he gave a brief explanation of how. Vega heard it and thought about it, but then she realised that it was her turn to talk. "Mornin', all," she said with a smile. She knew these people - many of them had been at her wood working class, or had been prominent and helpful when the storm hit or the freeze which immediately followed it. Those lessons, and the ones on survival she'd given meant that she was much more confident in speaking - in knowing that she knew her stuff.

"What we're goin' to do is have a dock constructed on pilin's. Those will be made from Gemini wood, an' we've made an example one. Each pilin' is driven into the ground, an' then we build the docks on it. From the cove here," she moved over to the place in question and stood, pointing her arms straight, "this will be the walkway to the docks itself. It will go out until the water is deep enough for the hull of a ship to pull alongside. That walkway will be on pilin's an' it'll be constructed like deckin'. We've got templates of the pieces you need. Then, the walkway becomes the docks itself. Goin' left to right, that'll be the length of one cog - which means that a brig can dock there, no issue. We need to make it as easy as we can for a ship to navigate in, an' to dock here, so we've got that information." Her father had provided that. He was a seafarer of no small experience after all. "With a covered walkway, an' jetty." Looking at Darius she smiled. "An' when it's done, I reckon the first job is to make a road between the docks an' Hopetoun proper. But that's another trial. Or, you know, this afternoon if we're right quick"

Darius listened patiently as first Doran, and then Vega, spoke to the settlers. The group, likewise, paid close attention to what was being said, and the founder of Hopetoun was genuinely impressed by how seriously they all seemed to be taking the task at hand.

Perhaps it should have been a given that they would all be united in their approach, but every time he worked on a project for Hopetoun, he was reminded of the discord he witnessed between ChiChi and Ari'sora, and the manner in which that argument had delayed - and, ultimately, endangered - the group.

The disagreement itself had not caused the eruption itself. Nir'wei had told Darius after the event that Maxine had had an argument of her own and had lost control of her powers. But the inability of ChiChi and Ari'sora to reach a calm resolution had not only hampered their rescue efforts, but resulted in a smaller adventuring party and more casualties requiring aid.

Had it not been for the eruption, it was unlikely that Darius would be standing on the southern coast of Faldrass, with a group of people, seeking to build a dock.

His experiences during the eruption ensured the bearded baron would not take unity for granted. It was a precious commodity that needed to be protected.

Once Doran and Vega had spoken, there was a general murmur of agreement among the settlers. The plan was simple in concept, and it seemed clear that if anyone sought any guidance, they would find it from among the group's leadership.

Darius directed the settlers to approach Jarad, who would ensure they had the tools they needed, and the understanding of how to use them safely. As the Hopetounians gathered around the large builder, he turned back to Vega and Doran.

"Once they've got their tools ready, I think it would be best to split the settlers into groups. We could have each group focus on one piling at a time. It might make the building process move more quickly, and it's much more efficient than having idle workers watching from a distance."

Darius looked past Vega's shoulder towards her family.

"Do you think your pa or cousins could lead one of the groups?" he asked the redhead, before glancing back to Doran. "An oil protectant could help, even though we're already using gemmi wood. Is there anything else you can think of that might make the wood more hardy, or its foundations more firm? I'm hoping this dock will stand the test of time."

Doran listened patiently and attentively, arms crossed over his chest, as Vega explained how they planned on going about building the docks. He was an alchemist of far above average skill, but most of his experience was with creating smaller items, and potions, as well as the study of magical artifacts. He had hardly ever been part of something that size before, the beacon that Vega and he had worked on earlier that cycle – a task from their shared patron - aside. He was curious about projects such as this one here though.

When Vega talked about making a road – and mentioned that afternoon, if they were quick – he smiled slightly and inclined his head before he remarked as he wished to understand how they planned on going about this, even though, he realized it was not absolutely necessary for him to know, “You mentioned driving pilings into the ground. How do you plan on doing that in the deeper parts of the water, if I may ask?” he continued. Building a dock of that size seemed like something that would require considerable manpower to him.

Unlike Darius, he did not consider the fact that they were all united in their approach to be in any way unusual. He had not been there when the volcano had erupted, which was, perhaps, fortunate as he would likely have lost patience very soon (His losing patience was a somewhat rare occurrence these trials, but it was something that could happen.).

He did not make a comment when Darius suggested splitting the settlers into groups and assigning leaders to each group; these were his former students’ people, and he was in charge. He only raised his voice when Darius addressed him directly, stroking his chin thoughtfully for a moment as he considered what he had said, before he replied,

“The oil would enhance the natural properties of the gemmi wood, and I could use something to strengthen the alchemical effect on top of it. If you also wish to make the wood hardier, or the foundations firmer - or both”, he decided, smiling very lightly – in his opinion, you didn’t have to settle on one option. “I could transfer the properties of stone to the wood though which would prevent most, perhaps all of the chemical and physical processes that occur in wood over the course of time.”

“I’m talking about decay, discoloration and cracks, among other things”,
he explained, in case his talking about chemical and physical processes did not tell them anything.

“Doing that would help make sure that the dock truly stands the test of time”, he continued in a calm and professional tone of voice. “Structures made of stone can last for centuries, and in some cases even millennia”, he explained, in order to make it clearer what kind of timespan they would be looking at as far as the dock was concerned.

“Is that something that you are interested in? We’d only have to decide on a particular type of stone”, he said to Vega and Darius, and the settlers and looked at them before he fell silent and waited for their reaction.

Re: [Hopetoun] Hickory Dickory Dock

Image
"They'd be happy to," Vega said, of her family members leading a group. There would be no issue there at all, as far as she was concerned. One glance at them told the truth of that.

Doran had a question and she looked at him and nodded. "When we've seen it done, previously, they used the anchors of the ships to put them into the ground. " Vega said. Glancing between Darius and her father - who nodded. "We've got three ships an', if we do it the way we've seen it done, we use them from the furthest point, in. Attach the pilin' to the bottom of the anchor an' lower it. That way, the weight of the anchor drives it into the ground. Send a swimmer down to check it, an' repeat" She could visualise it, clearly. "Since the pilin's will be visible above the water level, we'll be able to place them. Make the endin' a tiny point, an' a long, but sharp-angled taper, an' pretty much gravity will do what you need. We need to mark it though, above water - each one needs to be marked for the water level. Once it's far enough down, an' stable, we could make a frame for it, underwater, to keep it more stable still?"

When Doran spoke of alchemificating the wood itself, Vega frowned slightly. "I wonder."

Moving over to the wood and examining it, the red head looked up at Darius and Doran. "I were thinkin' of seein' if we could make the pilin's hollow, an' fillin' the bottom with stone, to weigh them down more so that they embed better in the ocean floor. They should do fine, an' I'm probably fussin' but it might help. What you want is somethin' to make them heavier while we're puttin' them in, an' then takin' it out so they stay where they are, once they're in the right place." Looking at the wood she nodded. "But I dismissed it as an idea, because makin' the pilin's hollow weakens the wood. If you can do that, Doran, an' I'll use a knack I've developedVega has lived all her life outdoors and she has used her woodcrafting as an integral part of that life. The items Vega makes have had to withstand the elements and extremes of weather, and she has always planned for that and made them to be as resiliant and hard-wearing as possible. This capstone shows the logical continuation of this and leads to the items she crafts - be it a box or wooden house, a fence pole or a short bow - being durable and strong and - most importantly - resistant to the elements and weather. Wind, rain, snow or even extreme heat of Saun will not warp, rot, or in any way impact the items she makes - even a flood would find the items Vega crafted undamaged in the water. It does not make the wood (or the item) more resistant to direct damage than it otherwise would be (depending on the type of wood.). It prevents warping, weathering, rot and degradation from exposure to the elements.

So if a wood happens to be resistant to damage (like some kind of iron wood or whatever) it has its natural hardness/durability, but also is immune to warping and the elements.
when it comes to the wood."

Thinking it through, she was confident it would work. "While this is all gettin' sorted, I can work with Doran an' we can make a prototype pilin'?" If everyone was happy with that, then Vega's family indeed got on with leading groups. "We'll need the pilin's made, either way," Vega said. "This is jus' a test for if we want to hollow them out or not." She'd work quickly and quietly with Doran - doing what needed to be done in terms of facilitating his alchemy, and showing him her "knack" for making the wood sturdy and resistant herself. Once they had a piece, long sharp taper to go into the sea-bed, then above that being hollowed out and able to still withstand the elements and not warp or degrade, as sturdy as stone from his alchemy, she looked at him and grinned. "I reckon, this is goin' to make our job a lot easier." Vega said. "We can push this down, an' do it all from the deck of a ship. What do you think?"

If Darius was happy with it, Vega was happy to do the hollowing out and so - as a group finished a piling, she'd hollow it and treat it with her way of making it more sturdy, and Doran could alchemificate where he needed to. Then, they could start putting in the pilings which could be placed with much more accuracy from the deck of one of the ships.

The more that the planning of the docks developed, the more confident Darius was that they would have a fine creation at the end of it. Most aspects of the build had been considered, and for the few that hadn't, there were good ideas being discussed. In that moment, Darius realised just how fortunate he was to have Vega and Doran working alongside him.

Darius liked Vega's suggestion to make use of ship anchors to drive the pilings into their positions. He was confident that with the amount of sailing expertise they had at their disposal, such a task could be easily managed. And with Doran and Vega working together to ensure that the pilings themselves would sink well, stay in position, and remain firmly in place - as well as last the test of time with stony qualities - the Scalvorian mariner agreed to their suggestions.

They all went about their work, carrying out Vega's plan and following Jarad's instructions. By the time the sun was setting, the pilings had been prepared and the Hopetounians were in a jovial mood as they returned home to enjoy a well-deserved meal and some rest.

Arc 721, 51st of Ashan
The following trial, Darius was standing on the deck of the Libertalia. He was leaning over the rail alongside Astra, peering into the water, only a few hundred feet from the shore.

On board the brig were several of the pilings that had been constructed the previous trial, their hollowed-out forms filled with stone, and each one with a sharpened, tapered end. One such piling had been strapped to the ship's anchor, and Astra was yelling instructions to the crew as they manoeuvred the vessel little by little against the gentle breeze, attempting to line it up. The group was also using rowboats to gently nudge the brig into position.

And then, as the ship slowly glided into place, Darius yelled out: "Drop anchor!"

The metal chain clattered loudly as each link connected with the hawsepipe, and after half a trill, there was a loud splash as the anchor and piling met the water. Darius and Astra were joined by others - crew members and settlers alike - as they waited for the foam to settle and stop blocking their view.

The piling sank, guided by its own weight and that of the anchor, until it hit the seabed with a thud that could be heard above the surface. At that, a loud cheer went up, and as the top end of the piling remained upright and exposed, Darius and Astra shared a smile before they both turned to look towards Vega and Doran so they could all share in the moment.

Re: [Hopetoun] Hickory Dickory Dock

Image
Things were coming on well.

Vega sat - very firmly on the land - and she worked at making a prototype piling. Hollowed out and resistant to the elements and as strong as granite? Vega was more than happy that this was going to be a very sturdy docks indeed. As they collaborated on the prototype, she worked with Doran and then, when they were both happy that they had done this the very best that they could, everyone got busy making them. Darius seemed pleased with the idea of the ships anchors being used to put the pilings down and Vega felt quite content.

Once they'd got people going on the pilings, Vega worked on the decking itself. Constructing a floating pontoon was moderately straightforward and she was happy to help construct it. People had the sections and pieces needed, they knew the numbers of each one. It was a pleasure, a genuine pleasure, to work with people in Hopetoun because they all just got on with what needed getting on with. Vega had no idea about the Flag of F'libberty and the impact that had, but even if she had it was more than that. The people here were focused and they were engaged in making the place better, each one. Vega understood why - it was a sense of shared purpose. That was what made this place special, in her mind - it was a community.

They worked, they kept working, and then when things were as far along as they could be - when all the pilings were made and the decks were as prepared as they could be, Vega was happy to get ready for the next trial.

Hopetoun Docks
51st Ashan

The following trial, Vega was very firmly on the shore. She hadn't set foot on a boat since she'd found out she was pregnant, other than the one coast-hugging journey around to the meeting with Kura. It was a very silly superstition and she knew that - but she felt it in her bones and she was not budging. Her mother had died giving birth to her, because her parents had been caught by surprise when Vega arrived early and, without medical attention, her mother had died. So, Vega had a feeling - and she knew it was silly but she didn't care that it was silly.

So, her feet were on the ground and she wasn't getting on the boat.

As the piling got lowered, Vega beamed with delight at the sound and she joined the cheer. "Awesome work!" Vega clapped her hands and beamed at Doran, Darius and Astra. "Right, then, lets get this floatin' docks out an' meet them in the middle, yeah?" She wasn't going to be doing any of the heavy lifting, but she was here with Doran and Vega looked at him. "I reckon the thing to do is to put the floatin' docks out to meet them, an' then to use that floatin' docks to attach the actual docks to the pilin', an' then jus' work our way backwards, liftin' a piece of the floatin' dock, put the pilin's down an' the secure dock. That work, you reckon?"

She was more or less of the opinion that it made sense, but Vega knew that Doran was a very logical and sensible man and so, she wanted to make sure that it made sense to him. "An' then, finally, we put up the shore-line structures. What do you reckon?"

Vega's skin has a reflective metallic sheen with a red glow. Her eyes still swirl biqaj colours, but one colour is always bright red which glows like fire. She has a bright red glow in her chest, situated directly under the mark of a heart (Daia mark) in the middle of a glowing silver dragon on her chest (Xiur). She's unnaturally warm to the touch
