The university, situated within the crown of Rynmere, occupied a flat section of land, beautifully landscaped with colourful wild flowers, and neatly kept trees and shrubs. Framed by four tall towers, one at each corner, the middle of the university building opened up into a roofless garden with a decorative maze fashioned to depict the sigil of Rynmere, the Jacadon.
Through the entrance way, a long desk ran along the west and east wall, each manned by a member of staff who specialised in their administrative fields. Visitors were met by the sight of a long swinging pendulum which hung from a domed ceiling and sunk into its mirrored equal on the floor, trimmed in gold and lined with a dark mahogany wood. Beyond this was the exit to the central maze, and either side of the pendulum led guests down hallways that would take them in a simple circuit about the building, which via either route, would led them back to the exact same spot beside the pendulum. Along these paths one would discover double doors to the laboratories, classrooms, and teacher offices.
The university itself stood three stories high and sank another four into the earth, the lighting here said to be powered by a special plant that grows in one of the forests in Rynmere, kept in glass orbs and hung from ceilings and walls on bronze chains. Malcolm's classroom was on the first floor and backed onto the open garden at the centre of the building, the sun shining in through the high windows.
He sat at his desk, surrounded by piles and piles of paperwork, essays that needed grading before the day was through, work that had stacked up while he had been away on leave. It was a troubled dream in which the man did not realising he was dreaming, everything just as it should be, just as it was right down to the coloured chalk that sat below the blackboard. The classroom was empty and quiet, in fact, had the man not stopped to listen and hear chatter in the halls, he might have almost been convinced that he was completely alone.

It had been a busy trial and Faith had fallen asleep easily and quickly. She was tired and aching and although she slept quickly, it was not an easy sleep. She had already had one dream which had been most confusing to the young woman and so, when she awoke, she was groggy and unsure of herself. So, as she awoke, laying on the floor, she lifted one hand to the desk on her her left and she grabbed ahold of it, not sure where she was or even, for the briefest second, who she was. One pale hand lifted onto the desk, grabbing to get some sort of purchase and actually catching old of the pile of papers (of course, it was the ones still to mark) and dropping them over the floor where they spilled out in a fan, pages mingling and you could bet that the students hadn't written their names on every page like they were supposed to. So, since those papers slipped and fell to the floor, her hand slipped with them and she couldn't quite get her center of gravity to the point where she could sit up. So, the groggy young undertaker grabbed on to the next lot of papers (which went exactly the same way) and then, finally, the desk itself. Finally, something with which to anchor herself as she sat up.

Unwittingly utterly destroying two piles of essays and papers waiting to be graded, Faith sat up and rubbed at her mist-grey eyes. Where in Famula's name was she? It was quiet, very quiet. She could tell, by the richness of the carpet that she had been laying on and the deep polish of the wooden desk that she had held on to, that this was a place that was rich. Was it an undertakers? The wood of the desk was familiar, certainly.

But as the young girl gained 'consciousness' in the dream, she looked around and realised that she was not in an undertakers at all. She was in a... what was this place? She had never seen anything like it, nothing at all and she slowly got up and looked out towards the classroom area first. She had no idea what it was, but it looked fascinating and she stepped forward, almost reverently. There was no doubting who the young girl who had just created carnage in his office was, for she looked exactly the same as when they had met in the park, should he recognise her. Same clothes, brands still evident, she didn't change at all in her dream, she was just completely herself. As Faith turned around, her mist-grey eyes widened and she let out a slight sound that could only be described as "Meeep!" as she realised two things. Firstly, she had completely and utterly decimated the contents of that desk and then her gaze fell on the man behind said desk and she let out a low groan "Oh no, why do I have to mess up *your* things of all people?" she asked, with a sigh. Of all the people to meet in ... wherever she was... why did she have to wreck his papers?

She blushed bright red and started trying to pick up the papers, making the whole thing much...much worse as she did. "I'm so sorry... I really didn't mean to... I was disoriented and then there was the bunny" as she said that she looked around and then looked back at him somewhat accusingly.

"Where's the bunny?!" she asked. "He was teaching me to knit" she sounded quite, quite put out.

There was a rustle of papers and over the edge of the desk Malcolm noticed that someone was there, and that the papers which had been piled up moments ago, now littered the floor. His subconscious filled the room as he rose to his feet and at Faith's back sat a full class of almost fifty people, getting out their papers and turning to the right page in their books. The room was a buzz, a hive of activity all of the sudden, and standing at the head of the classroom, Malcolm picked up a piece of white chalk and drew the outline of a rabbit on the blackboard without lifting his hand away from the board once. As he turned around to stare at his students then, the chalk drawing flinched and then jumped away from the board, taking the form of a real rabbit at Faith's feet.
"Page forty-seven," Malcolm gave his students the hurry up and looked down at his leather riding boots and dark clothing, a black cloak with golden fastenings hung from his shoulders, and hair was shorter than usual, slicked back against his head, his dark gaze raised to scan the blur of faces ahead of him.
"Have you finished grading our papers?" One of them asked.
Malcolm shook his head and reached out to put his hand on the desk, finding a book there instead. "No," the man hesitated, where had all of the papers gone?" "I...," he watched the black haired woman sat beside the white rabbit and the walls of his dreamscape shook, as if something wasn't right. "I..., my lady, what are you doing on the floor?" Malcolm folded his arms, he could see Faith but had failed to draw a connection between the woman in front of him and the one he had met earlier in the season.
"Did you kill her?" A man's voice cut through the crowd.
"Kill who?" Malcolm's brow furrowed and he stared down the young man.
"Your wife," a girl to the left of him hissed.
"Murderer, murderer, murderer," they chanted together.
Slowly Malcolm backed away from the desks, and as his back met the blackboard, he spun, but instead of finding it there, looked now upon a crowd of thousands, all singing the same. The walls of the university had been replaced by those of the city's fighting arena, and Malcolm stood on the hot, soft sand at its centre, his clothes traded for rags, wrists shackled and feet bare. He dropped the book he had been holding, as a giant of a man approached him, and the pages fell open to the sketched scene of the market place in town.

"Page Fourty Seven? I haven't even got a book!" she said and one of the people at the front of the class motioned for her to get out of the way. She did so, shuffling around until she was sitting at the side of the desk and she looked down at the bunny and smiled "There you are! I dropped the stitches and now there's a hole, look" holding out the knitting to the bunny, who took it and looked at it critically. It's voce apparently was the twittering of a bird but Faith understood it. "Yes, I suppose I am a bit loose with my tension, and I might have knitted two together somewhere... or maybe I thought that I was doing a cable stitch! I'll try that trick of holding the yarn and pulling. But what do I do with this it's got a hole" the bunny twittered and Faith nodded "Of course, I'll help you" she said and solemnly placed the knitting around the bunny's neck, tying it neatly and, as it turned out, it made a perfect bunny-cape. Somehow, the raggedy and holy knitting became quite the fetching accessory. She giggled and nodded in delight as the bunny did a twirl and she looked up at Malcolm as he asked her what she was doing on the floor. "I'm knitting with the bunny, silly." she said, her eyes twinkling with delight. "It's nice, you do your teaching and I'll knit. It's good to spend time together, isn't it? Later, when I've learnt to knit I'll make you a cape, too, if you like?"

But then there was shouting from the crowd (and really, how rude) and then the whole walls shook and suddenly they were in a place that she knew. Looking around, she recognised the fighting pits of Athart but... no, no it wasn't quite that. It was like it, though, and there was the sand and the crowd. Her owners had brought her here, but not here. But she had watched the same things, she had seen the death and the blood and she had heard the crowd baying for blood.

On the floor of the undertaker's shop, the girl shivered and let out a moan, begging not to be taken back. How much must she have done wrong to be taken here? What was it that she had... murderer? She had murdered, no, no she hadn't and she turned to tell her owner ~ which one of them would it be? She didn't know but it didn't matter, really, there were four of them and it must be them because she was in Athart, but it wasn't and as the bunny bounced around and offer out candy from a dispensing board / tray thing that it wore around it's neck, she realised that where her owner should be stood the man she had seen in the park the other trial. But he was bound and chained and wearing rags. That wasn't good because there was a big man in front of him and he was about to be marmalised by this big giant of a man.

So, Faith jumped forward and reached into the book, pulling out a large sword. It was easily three times bigger than any sword needed to be, as long as she was tall and quite a bit wider; with intricate engraving weaved all over it it looked like a sword imagined by a teenager who was leaping to defend the first crush she had ever had. Holding the sword in one hand (because it was so light, that was just amazing, she thought, she'd always thought that they looked quite heavy), she reached and got another one, which she slid over to Malcolm. She placed herself firmly between the Brute and Malcolm, raising her sword in the air and swooshing it around with reckless abandon "We have to save the bunny!" she said, brandishing her blade in a stabby-stabby gesture. The Brute cowered from her (obviously, to her mind, incredibly skilled and terrifying display of swordswomanship) and pointed at the bunny who was sitting on the side of the sandpit, wearing a sombrero and smoking a pipe. "Help me?" she asked Malcolm, pleadingly.

Strange, it was all too strange, the man thought, the walls of his temporary reality shaken once more by the threat of consciousness, of becoming aware that this was all just a dream. There was no time to look about and take it all in, the giant closing the distance between them too quickly to chance looking away. Faith had pulled swords from the book, and like an anchor, Malcolm's newly acquired weapon saw his feet glued to the scorching sand beneath them.
He rolled out of the way just in time to avoid the giant's first strike, and turned to raise his weapon to the man's back, though as if the weapon had met stone, the metal sparked and the blade bounced off of the target without leaving a scratch. The giant turned and Malcolm dropped the blade to dash between the legs of his attacker, taking the book up as he went. He flipped through the pages of the book furiously, trying to find the right one, if Faith had been able to pull things from the book, then surely they could jump into its pages and escape this hell.
Malcolm held the book up, opening the page to a scene Faith may recognised, of the classroom they had come from. It was empty, just as it had been moments before his subconscious had filled it with the busy, shuffling crowd. The knight pointed to the book and shook it in an attempt to draw Faith's eye, narrowly missed by the swing of the giant's balled fist.
"Get inside the book!" Malcolm demanded, moving from the shadow of the beast at his back in order to set the book down and jump into its pages. "Hurry!" He called from the other side, sand from the arena falling in through the ceiling of his classroom.

"Page Fourty Seven? I haven't even got a book!" she repeated as he spoke to her but he was talking about the book and the bunny was selling concessions. "I haven't GOT A BOOK!!!" she screamed at him, loudly, and then he jumped into the book.

Well that was odd.

She watched what he did and then the bunny and the Brute started dancing together, the two of them. It was strange and unnerving how they moved together, so fluidly, but then that was because they were both made of cheese, she knew. This part of the dream was not hers and, as her mind tried to make sense of it she saw the bunny and brute, her four owners in Athart, Jamal and a woman with pink hair all dancing a strange dance. They held hands and spun around and around and around then suddenly all rushed into the center of the circle.

Well, that was odd too.

Faith considered, standing there in the center of the circle as the people from her life danced around her that she wished she had brought a book with her. Books were good things and they were nice things and they never did anything except give her knowledge or opinions or information. Books, in fact, were the closest things to friends the young woman had ever had. She'd think it was a little sad if she knew any different, but she didn't. So, instead, she watched the dance of all the free people and she wondered briefly if she should dance too. But she knew that she shouldn't, somehow. "But I haven't got a *book*!! she shouted at Malcolm, but he wasn't there.

But the book was.

Just as the sea of bodies ran forward, shouting "ooooooohhhhhhhHHHHHHHH!", Faith ducked underneath the Brute's legs and she ran and grabbed the book. But it slipped away from her, developing wings which fluttered and she jumped and grabbed it. In the very second that she grabbed it, she was back, once again, in Malcolm's classroom and she turned around and saw him there, calling to her. She pointed a finger at him and poked him in the chest "What about the Bunny?!" she asked, concern for the chalk-bunny creature in the forefront of her mind. "I haven't even given him a name and ... Why is there sand in here?" she wondered, picking up her knitting and resuming it where she had left off, even as the book fluttered around her head like a tweeting sparrow. "You should let me clean up for you, you know. But I need to autopsy the bunny first" she explained, a small chalk bunny with a very definite y-shaped scar drawn on the floor in front of her, just like a parody of a chalk outline of a corpse in a murder.... But this one,a bunny murder "Pass me those bunny-cutters, please" she said, motioning to what appeared to be a sandwich on his desk.

It was a mix of many things that would propel Malcolm from his dream, leaving him awake and confused, the hammock he sat in rocking back and forth gently with the movement of the boat on the open sea. He pulled himself up and rubbed his eyes, he had experienced a few strange dreams before but this one took the cake. Like most dreams the man had experienced without knowing right away that we was in fact dreaming, Malcolm struggled to recall exactly what he had seen, but remembered the black haired woman and something about a book, sand, and a rabbit.
For Faith the dream may or may not continue, though the walls of the original dreamscape may have shattered, and while a bright light would mark Malcolm's true disappearance, it might not be so strange for her subconscious to create a copy of him, filling in what was now missing. No one knew the true purpose of Emea, the meaning of its existence, or why people ventured there in their sleep, but it was safe assume that it's possibilities were endless, and that this was unlikely to be the last time Malcolm and Faith's paths crossed there.
