• Location • Nashaki Trade Academy

As one approaches the City of Nashaki, trains of caravans lead through the sprawling outskirts to the numerous open city gates. The largest gate is on the west side and leads past the fortified walls into an octagon of eight districts. Each district features unique markets and is maintained by one of the eight Towers that rule Nashaki. In the city, heavily guarded, is the prized oasis that supports the Nashaki people to flourish in such an unforgiving land.

Nashaki Trade Academy

Nashaki Trade Academy

For many arcs, the Council of Nashaki has discussed the merit of establishing a school or institute like in Viden, Rynmere, Scalvoris, or even Etzos. As of the first of Vhalar in Arc 720, the Nashaki Trade Academy opened its doors for the first time. Separate from the other schools, the academy focuses on a different type of schooling than research-based academia. The aggregation of multiple apprenticeships and similar through-out Nashaki, the Trade Academy offers short-term programs to prepare students to enter apprenticeship and jobs in trade-based industries, to teach vocational service skills, and to advance the craftsmanship of tradesfolk.

While more classical programs like Business and Math can be found at the Trade Academy, these type of courses are purely supplementary and often focus on practical industry application of such skills rather than theoretical research or anything requiring a thesis.

Located in the South Districts, specifically in the Arms District, the Trade Academy often overlaps with those enlisted to the Nashaki military. It is common to know people who do both, serve in the military and attend the Trade Academy in hope to gain an apprenticeship that might offer more than the life of an infantry soldier. As such, the Trade Academy is fairly well-protected and soldiers are commonly seen on and around the campus, both on-duty and off-duty.

Due to the new nature of the Trade Academy, and the focus on practical skills, there is a range of financial support options to help those who wish to attend, do so. One need only visit the Support Office on the main floor of the Academy and speak with a counselor there, in order to explore their options (see list below). Nashaki is so open to people learning at the Academy that they even make waivers for slaves to attend programs, on the requirement that their master gives signatory permission in person during the sign-up process and is kept informed of the slave's progress. This is so that those in the trades industry who have bought slaves can send them to be more valuable for their business.

Focused on trades and craftsmanship as much as the Trade Academy is, there are a great many workshops and tool/supply libraries. The libraries in the Nashaki Trade Academy are unlike most libraries, in that what fills the shelves are manuals, diagrams, blueprints, construction designs, textile plans, technical journals, and so on. These libraries are not a place to find theory or discussions about anything unrelated to a practical craft.

The Towers of Nashaki also keep a presence in the Academy, and it is said that there are undercover recruiters who walk the halls and attend courses specifically to find possible candidates to invite to be part of the towers.

Thanks to a certain group from the Tower of Flesh, there is also an Arts department included but it is specifically meant for professional means into performance and entertainment jobs, or to bolster the practical skills of a craftsman (such as a smith also taking a course in design to help the look of his creations).

Re: [Institution - Complex] Nashaki Trade Academy

Qualifications

Students may enroll up to two departments at a time, but any number of programs within those two chosen departments. As such, registering is very important to maintain track of which departments students are involved in.

One of the largest issues of contention when settling the Nashaki Trade Academy was whether to use the same qualifications as the more high-minded universities. A compromise was struck, so while the same type of qualifications are used, they have different requirements. There is no transferring between any of the other schools in Idalos.

All qualifications are listed like follows:

Letter of Mixology in Culinary
Certificate of Shoemaking in Trades
Diploma of Cartography in Travel
Letter of Mathematics in Commerce
etc.

If the program and department is not listed on the Academy Structure post, then it does not exist ICly. It must be on that list. Players are free to request a program or department be added though.

To enroll at entry level, one enrolls to work toward their letter. This is achieved once the following requirements have been met:

Letter
  • Minimum of 10 specialized Knowledge in the relevant skill (must be requested as "Skill: specialized knowledge text (NTA)"; e.g. Appraisal: The Value of a Diamond (NTA)"
  • Minimum of 1 season of relevant study in Nashaki (and one thread set in that season to represent this).
Certificate
  • Minimum of 20 specialized Knowledge in the relevant skill (requested like above).
  • Minimum of 2 consecutive seasons of further study in Nashaki (and two threads, one set in each season, to represent this).
Diploma
  • Minimum of 30 specialized Knowledge in the relevant skill (requested like above).
  • Minimum of 2 consecutive seasons of further study in Nashaki (and two threads, one set in each season, to represent this).
  • Apprenticeship or establishing trade in relevant skill within Nashaki (and minimum of one thread to represent this).
Charter
  • Minimum of 40 specialized Knowledge in the relevant skill (requested like above).
  • Minimum of 2 consecutive seasons of further study in Nashaki (and four threads, two in each season, to represent this).
  • Apprenticeship or established trade maintained in relevant skill within Nashaki for 2 consecutive seasons (and minimum of two threads, one set in each season, to represent this).
Licentiate
  • Minimum of 50 specialized Knowledge in the relevant skill (requested like above).
  • Minimum of 3 consecutive seasons of further study in Nashaki (and six threads, two in each season, to represent this).
  • Apprenticeship or established trade maintained in relevant skill within Nashaki for 3 consecutive seasons (and minimum of three threads, one set in each season, to represent this).
  • Teaching or apprenticing students of the Trade Academy in relevant skill (and minimum of one thread to represent this).
There is no pay-in system for knowledges, and only knowledges after enrolling and properly requested like shown count.

Please post the results of the character's schooling, even if they flunk out, and anything they have that worked towards it - at the end of the season in which they enrolled.

If a student attends one season, but leaves before the other (thus not consecutive), they will have to begin anew when they return (knowledges will still count, but the seasons must be consecutive). If there is an especially good reason, though, for why the student was incapable of consecutive attendance then there is the possibility to speak with the Support Office and appeal for a waiver (this should be a moderated thread).

Nothing from Nashaki Trade Academy can be transferred over to the other academies, on default.
