Sharp gasps of air coursed into the smith's lungs. Roaring to the heavens Vakhanor fought with the affliction brought by the clear, cool liquid trickling down his cindered skin. "Fool. Yes," he answered the statement through bared teeth "I am...and you." Another pained growled escaped him and he trashed against the tub "...should be angry," the force of his fist panged against the tub again "...too."

Beneath him a body of cold water began to fill the basin, evoking a bitter chill that coursed through his spin as if he were caught in the crossfire of a dire battle between fire and ice. After a while the swollen wounds began to numb and the pain lessened, the puss forming around his skin had been washed away into the fowl aqueous murk that festered at the bottom of the tub.

"Thank you Elyna," he muttered, lifting himself from the water "and I'm sorry." Weak, he thought. Arcs had passed since he had used the word to convey feeling, "I'll do what I can to make it up to you." Boiled blood still raged below the burns, angry and red; only made bareable by the numbness of his limbs.

Turning to face the Skyrider the smith bore little shame in being in front of her like this now, his reasons for his lack of attire was beyond his control and he had gathered by the danger in Elyna's tone that if he so dared took a foot outside of the house, he wouldn't hear the end of it. Reluctant to frustrate her further, a sincere look of gratitude replaced the anguish in his pained ocean coloured eyes "I'll be a better friend to you." Hope briefly flickered across his features and he looked up, stepping out from the bath to find something to dry himself with and as time grew on, his sense returned to himself along with the pain. He'd clean the mess he'd made up after he'd figured out what to put over his injuries.

“I’m not…” Elyna replied before she held her tongue. Her trousers were wet from the knee down from the water that pooled on the wooden floor. She was angry; but probably not for the reasons he thought. Either way, she wasn’t going to tell him a lie. It had been hard to ignore the shouts of agony, but she had put them aside and sealed them into the box of professionalism. The box that stored all the darker moments of her time as a Skyrider, the injuries she’d helped to clean. The bodies she’d moved, the lives she’d taken herself. They were safer locked away. Instead, she had focused on the dripping water from her cloth; the way it ran back down her wrist in silver drops and the distant sound of the sea on the shore.

“I’m just tired, Vakh. It’s been a long night,” her legs protested as she stood up again. Stiffened by long breaks of sitting and crouching beside the Smith. She stretched her arms up, over her head to loosen the muscles in her back. It was harder to ignore the absolute nakedness of the man in front of her, and she kept her gaze fixed on his face as she passed him the blanket back.

“However,” she relented, “there’s that shirt on the table still and my bed roll is beside the fire…get some rest,” she smiled at him and returned to the front door, sliding her feet back into the mucky boots. The young woman balanced herself with a hand on the frame and tucked the laces inside the leather, rather then do them up.

“I’ll head to the shore like I said,” she explained, “there’s a guard hut where the knights keep gear, there’ll be some spare breaches, or something,” an impish smile pulled at her expression, “or we’ll be in the same trouble when the suns rise. Just…rest okay, Vakh? You’re safe here and I’ll be back soon.”

With that she slipped from the door. She pulled the halter onto Ember and rode bareback down to the beach as promised. The hut, as she’d expected had small collections of personal gear in buckets, and then a stack of generic breaches, brais, shirts and tabards. She collected what was needed and returned to the house, a half break later.

“Vakh?” She set the pile of mismatched clothes on the table and kicked her boots off once more. Her eyes ached from exhaustion and her movements were slow, lethargic. All she could do, was hope the Smith hadn’t run away in the nuddy.

Thankful for the offer of something to shelter his naked body from her, the smith took the towel and wrapped it his body. Not a man of cowardice, he would not have been ashamed if not for the tension that he so often held with Elyna. "Cheers Ely," he said, smiling back at her.

Even though he was a stubborn man, ever since their meeting Elyna had never been anything but sweet to him. She was a little reckless, naive and brash at times but he also found her to be very reserved, strong and kind. Vakhanor didn't have a pension for making friends and while he had in the brief moments of the friendship told her off a few times, the man could not help but be drawn to her. "Your stare is very direct Miss Elyna, do you think me handsome?" he teased, playing up his best noble tone as he followed her through to the next room and watched as she put on her things, his smile lifting his features when he saw her tuck in the laces.

“I’ll head to the shore like I said, there’s a guard hut where the knights keep gear, there’ll be some spare breaches, or something, or we’ll be in the same trouble when the suns rise. Just…rest okay, Vakh? You’re safe here and I’ll be back soon.”

Puzzled at first, the smith lowered his eyes across his current mismatched there lack of attire. He could have probably done with a few bandages, suns rise? Right, work. "Yeah. Can't serve customers naked," he replied, biting back the soreness of the ugly red burn across his chest. Neither could he probably sleep in a married woman's house and live with himself for it, "I'll wait."

Over the time Vakhanor had fought back the agony and made an attempt to clean up after them. Back and forth, he sifted through the cupboards until he found a first aid kit with a roll of bandages. There were not many, however it was enough to just cover the burns enough so the skin wouldn't stick to the shirt Elyna had offered him. Unfortunately not a medicinal practitioner, the man fumbled when wrapping it around his chest and it took him almost twenty bits to figure it out. At least half clothed and his wounds patched up, the smith carefully tidied away his mess and started to clean the bath. Even injured he couldn't sit still. Every bend of his muscles made him want to punch a brick, forcing him to take a break every few bits, and to his chagrin the bath was not fully clean by the time Elyna had finally returned.

"In here!" he called, crouching over the side of the tub and ringing out a soapy wet sponge, cursing when a splash got caught on his shirt.

Boots left at the door again, Elyna followed the sound of his voice to the bathroom. Arms folded under her chest she took up her position, leaning in the doorframe.

“You were supposed to be resting,” the woman raised a brow. It was an odd state of clothing, shirt and towel and she gestured back to the main room, “I managed to find you some trousers at least,” she explained. Tired she set her head against the wooden frame and closed her eyes for a moment. Everything could wait till the next day, or simply, later on in this day.

“You are a handsome man, Vakh,” she agreed and looked up at him once more. Her own eyes had darkened with exhaustion, “but you need to rest. I’ve set the bedroll on the table and you should be warm enough by the fire.” It was also still warm, despite the long fallen night and there was little chance it would get cooler. Dawn was only a break away, at most, she was sure of it. Besides, why have this discussion about him being a handsome man. He was. It was a fact. But as she had corrected him mentally earlier, it wasn’t Miss Elyna. It was Mrs; and even if that hadn’t been the case, she loved Malcolm. The earlier kiss still tasted of bitter regret; a mistake of impulse.

“I’m going to get some sleep,” Elyna smiled, he was and would continue to be her friend. The woman felt responsible for the man who’d so recently caught fire. Still blamed herself for the majority of his turmoil and the wound that would never heal. The death of his brother.

“Good night Vakh…I’ll see you in the morning…please don’t worry about cleaning this,” she urged before rubbing a hand over tired features and slipping away into the bedroom, closing the door behind her.
