Thought she was going back? Brent frowned at the comment. He had made a specific point to her that he wasn’t going to tell the authorities. Had she forgotten? Regardless, she looked relieved and he was thankful for that. Brent smiled at the way she looked at the trinket. It was just something small, but she seemed to like it. Maybe she would sleep better at night or good spirits would gather at her bed. As his gaze lingered over her, he was reminded that sleep was what she needed most. But despite her rumpled feathers and swollen lip, she still looked beautiful.
“Just one more thing before I go.”
He took two steps towards her and bent to where she was sitting. In a fluid motion he cupped her cheek and kissed her tender cracked lips. He didn’t linger though, and was soon moving away from the bed. When he looked back, his cheeks were flushed but there was a slight yet confident smile on his face.
“I look forward to seeing you again, Navyri.”
As he made his way towards the door, he almost forgot about the mirror the winged lady had mentioned. It was an odd sort of request but maybe some sort of exchange for the dreamcatcher? He backtracked slightly and looked for the healer.
“Navyri mentioned you had a small mirror?” Brent asked.
“Oh yes,” Yvonne replied as she held up the hand mirror she had found. “But I thought it was for…”
For a moment, they both looked at each other in confusion. Brent coughed awkwardly then added, “Maybe she wants me to trim my whiskers?”
It wasn’t the best display of humour but it broke the ice enough for the healer to place the mirror in his offered hand. Brent gave a half-shrug and glanced back at Navyri’s bed.
“You take good care of her, and treat her well.” Yvonne said in a rather maternal tone.
Brent merely gave a simple nod in response and left the small building, into the cold of Cylus.
