The Dreamwalker

Ashan 5, Arc 720

“Oh, Delroth!“
Devin moaned, reached for the man that was lying next to him and met his gaze for a moment before he abruptly wrapped his arms around him, pulled him close and kissed him deeply and passionately. He had fallen in love with the Immortal the moment that he had first seen him, almost two arcs prior. He had worked diligently since then, building his shrine, filling it with treasure and learning magic so that he could have wings, just like a bird. He wanted to let Delroth know that he was his most dedicated follower, and now Delroth was finally here, and everything was absolutely perfect!

He was just about to remove the other man’s shirt because it was starting to get in the way a bit when he suddenly heard a slightly amused and undeniably feminine voice. “I hope that there is still room for me, Devin!” He looked up, and his eyes widened. It was Edasha, the other Immortal that he worshipped, and she was gorgeous. In fact, she was even more beautiful than he had imagined. He smiled at her and then he gestured for her to lie down on his other side. He couldn’t believe his luck! His two favourite Immortals wanted to share his bed!

A few moments later, when the clothes were finally starting to come off, he heard yet another person’s voice. He turned his head, wondering if maybe Zanik had decided to join the three of them. Being a bard, he was rather fond of the Immortal of Music as well. Whoever the man that stood there, a thoroughly amused look on his face, was, he definitely wasn’t Zanik though!

He knew what Zanik looked like. He had already seen enough pictures and statues of him!

The stranger was in his early twenties, slender and pale, with freckles, a mop of unruly light brown hair, dark eyes and dressed in dark grey, and he met the Mortalborn’s gaze for a moment before he asked, “You know that these two aren’t really Delroth and Edasha, do you? Most Immortals wouldn’t join a mortal like you for a threesome, although I have to admit, you do have nice wings!” he said to Devin and pointed at the black, feathered wings that had become a frequent feature of the Mortalborn’s dreams.

“What kind of wings are they? Raven wings or crow wings? And why do you have wings when you obviously don’t have Avriel blood?” he asked. “That’s rather curious!”

Re: The Dreamwalker

Devin didn’t answer the stranger’s questions, but just stared at him, an arm still wrapped around Delroth and another one around Edasha who was trying to kiss him and making all kinds of seductive little sounds. “What do you mean they are not real?” he finally asked. “They are very real!” In order to prove his point, he leaned over to the Immortal of Beauty and kissed her. Edasha giggled and cuddled a bit closer to him, sighing softly and contently as she did so. “Would someone that’s not real do that? They are just as real as you and me!”

The stranger let out a loud sigh, rolled his eyes and approached the bed, a very nice and luxurious four-poster bed with velvet curtains and silken blankets. “You are rather stubborn”, he observed. “It seems as if there is no other way”, he decided, abruptly pushed Edasha who let an indignant little cry out away so that she tumbled out of the bed and onto the shaggy rug in front of the bed and leaned over to Devin in order … to touch his arm?

The Mortalborn furrowed his brow as that seemed a rather strange gesture, considering the circumstances, and then he frowned because the man, whoever he was, was rather rude and a fool on top of it. He had just pushed an Immortal out of the bed! Wasn’t he worried about being cursed? He wasn’t sure what exactly Edasha’s curse was like, but it was probably really unpleasant. Who knew, maybe it turned you into an ugly freak!

He was just about to tell the stranger that when he noticed … something. A moment later, his eyes suddenly widened. He looked at Delroth, at Edasha who was sitting on the rug and staring at him rather stupidly and at the stranger in confusion before he realized just what was going on.

“You made me lucid!” he realized. “A few trials ago, I met a man named Balthazar who did pretty much the same thing!”

Re: The Dreamwalker

He abruptly left the bed and put his clothes back on, ignoring “Edasha’s” and “Delroth’s” complaints. Now that he had realized that they were indeed not real, he was not interested in them anymore. He didn’t want to sleep with a feking illusion, he wanted the real Immortals!

“I’ve been trying to lucid dream pretty much every night since I met Balthazar”, he admitted, his violet eyes wide with excitement because he saw an opportunity to finally get what the white-haired mage had been unable to give him. “I failed every time though. Something is … not working. You are like him though, aren’t you? Can’t you do anything?”

“I want to always be lucid from now on. I don’t have these wings here in the waking world”,
he said and sighed. “I like myself better with them though, and it would mean a lot to me if I could have them for a few breaks every night at least.”

“Besides, Emea is soo fascinating”,
he proclaimed. He was talking incredibly quickly because he was so eager and enthusiastic and barely stopped long enough to take a breath.

The stranger looked at Devin for a moment, furrowing his brow barely noticeably, before he asked, “What exactly did this … Balthazar do? The initiation is fairly hard to mess up. Did he take you to the Veil?”

Devin looked at the other man in confusion. “The Veil?” he repeated. That was the first time that he had heard that word. He looked around the room, but he couldn’t see any veils.

“I see. Apparently, you were only temporarily made lucid”, the stranger explained.

“We need to fix that”, he decided. “Come on, I’ll take you to the Veil. I have to admit, I find you strangely … endearing.” The stranger’s lips curved into a little smile.

“Besides, we can’t have someone who has no idea what he’s doing running around Emea and possibly attract the wrong kind of attention.” As he said that, a shimmering portal materialized right in front of Devin’s bed where Delroth was still lying and pouting. The fake Edasha was leaning against the bed, her arms crossed over her chest.

She looked rather sullen.

“Are you coming?” the stranger asked Devin who just stared at the portal open-mouthed and extended his hand.

Re: The Dreamwalker

“The wrong kind of attention?” Devin asked as he followed the man to the portal, holding his hand.

Balthazar had warned him about the same thing.

“Emeyans”, the stranger explained. “They come for you if you use magic in Emea. So, whatever you do in the world of dreams, don’t cast a spell!” he warned him before he stepped into the portal.

Devin furrowed his brow a bit before he followed him.

A moment later, he looked around in awe, mouth agape. They were in a fantastic city now. Everything was made of silver and gold and decorated with gemstones, down to the windows and doors – one of the buildings alone was probably worth a million nels due to all the expensive stuff on it - and the buildings were connected with long bridges that were made of mirrors.

Devin loved mirrors!

“This is the Veil”, the stranger explained and smirked slightly at the look on Devin’s face. “It looks different for every one of us, and it connects the different dreamscapes. Through the Veil, you can enter other people’s dreams, although I doubt that you are capable of that at the moment. What else is there to know ….”

He paused a moment, scratching his head while the Mortalborn continued to stare like an idiot.

“If you get injured while you are lucid, those injuries will still be there in the waking world, and you can even die in a lucid dream. You will eventually learn to shape a dreamscape as well as take things from Emea with you through a process that is called Anchoring, but that will take time. Are you listening to me, Devin?” he asked, and the Mortalborn abruptly turned to face him and focused his entire attention on him.

Normally, he had a rather short attention span. He listened to the mysterious dreamwalker though because he had never heard something that fascinating before, and he was so absolutely excited. He would be able to take the things he found in Emea with him eventually!

Maybe he’d even find a way to take one of those golden doors with him!

“Hmmm”, the stranger made once he was finished. “It seems as if you’ll wake up soon. Is there anything you’d like to ask me before we part ways?” he wanted to know.

“What’s your name?” Devin asked, realizing that he had never asked the other man who he was.

“And will I see you again?”

The stranger had covered a lot of topics, but every sentence that he had said had just raised another question or two; besides, there were still so many things that he had to learn!

The stranger looked at the Mortalborn for a moment and whispered something, just as Devin finally woke up.

Overview

Devin turns Edasha and Delroth look-alikes down as bedpartners! On the real immortals are good enough for his bed!

You are being very creative with this PC and I enjoy all the absurd humour. Devin is fun, every time. He never disappoints.

This was an amusing lucid dream thread and very, very Devinish.
