The sounds of battle both by clash of arms and whispers of rumors had made its way into the infirmary. The various healers both those who served the knights or the priesthood and the members of the Order feel into work. The surgeons cleaned their hands and prepared their instruments they confirmed that their tools were clean and had everything they would need. They knew people would’ve coming and quickly.

Those who lacked they surgery skills were getting everything relate ready. Gennadiya moved with purposeful steps through the out chamber of the infirmary making her way towards her assigned area. Her sapphire gazed took in the various green cloaks and junior healers racing around. ‘By the Immortals we don’t need that many blankets.’

“Floran, Gregory, Hilata I need you.” Gennadiya called over the commotion. Three green cloaks rushed over all there trying to bring over the same blanket. She raised her eyebrow at the three of them and for a moment they looked guilty. “Can you three get water heating up. We are going to need that more then the blankets.” Gennadiya said indicating to the large pots hanging next to the fire places. The three looked surprised and then moved off to do as instructed. Luckily the fire were blazing in an effort to fight the chill. They would need to get water to get it heated

Gennadiya continues on and came to the group of cots that would be her domain. Gennadiya was a master doctor and had some decent skill in surgery and would help there as needed but would also help with those who might need that didn’t involve saws and stitching.

The blue cloak moved around with purpose. While there were other of the order who held a higher rank in the order there were few though that had more skill in medicine. Most of those were also tied up preparing for surgery. Genna could see that every cot had a blanket. There was a full stock of bandages. Genna nodded in approval. Then she saw some more people with blankets. “Put those there.” Gennadiya said then directed. “I need those pitchers filled with cold water.” Her alto voice said pointing to the empty pitchers. Water was more important then blankets and especially against these type of creatures.

Gennadiya continued give directions. Internally Gennadiya wasn’t looking forward to the injuries knights who would soon make their way into the the infirmary. She liked to see people get better but it was hard to see the pain that always came first. Gennadiya knew that keeping busy would help her focus.

The room was quiet but there was silence about the room as people finished what had to be done. Water was heating and instruments were being moved about and then the sounds started and silence really did descend upon the room. The sounds of yells and screams began to filter into the room. Gennadiya slowly breathed in and out as the noise began to rise in volume. Genna had been in a few fights already since coming to the fortress and almost preferred that. While in the fight you didn’t have time to think about what was coming only what was there.

The sound of battle outside by the main gates heightening the tension. Genna wished to be out there, but the reality was that treating the injured in the courtyard would cause more chaos and confusion so they were hear waiting for the first stretchers to come in with the injured. The moment was again silent and then they were there. Soldiers arrived with injures, others came in on stretchers carried by staff of the place. Gennadiya stepped forward and spoke to the first soldier who walked in. He was grimacing in pain and clutching his side.

“What happened?” Genna asked even as she began to strip the armor off of the soldier.

“I was thrown against the wall.” The soldier said through clenched teeth. Gennadiya could already tell that the man had broken a couple ribs from the grunts and way he held his side. Now she just had to figure out which ones. She firmly but kindly removed the protective hand from the soldiers side and began to still with that same touch test which ribs were broken. She was sure of at least two and suspected and third, but they were all right in a row. Genna started to wrap the young man to bind his ribs into place.

“As I am sure you guessed you have broken ribs. Lets get your wrapped up.” She said already having started.

“Can I go back and help.” He asked wincing and hissing in pain.

“That depends on if you can handle the pain.” Was the reply. “But you will have to avoid being thrown around.” The soldier smiled but Genna’s attention was called as a green cloak came up with a soldier with a lot of blood on his face. Corlin finish this wrape.” Genna smiled at the soldier. “Moseke’s blessing be with you.”

Genna moved up to her new patient. He was looking at her but the response was delayed and his gaze was unfocused. Genna realized the man was in shock, which would actually be the most common problem she had been told. See that she moved on to the physical wound. It appears to be some kind of head injury. “I need you to sit here.” Genna said slowly and guided him to a chair so that she could get a better look. He wasn’t shaking and was responsive if vague which suggested a milder case of shock, but once she made sure the man wasn’t bleeding to death she or one of the green cloaks would take care of that. Genna grabbed a clean cloth and got it wet with warm water and began to clean the blood on the man’s head. With gentle speed she soon had cleared as much of the extra blood as she could. It was a nasty cut though not larger through the man’s hair, the problem was that it was still bleeding. Genna quickly reviewed her options and soon realized the best method to stop the bleeding.

The favored of Moseke closed her eyes and used Moseke’s Light. As she did so she offered a prayer even as the green light consolidated along the man’s wound. Genna offered a silent prayer as the she used the ability, infusing the skin and feeling the base layer begin to close and stopping the bleeding. Gennadiya knew that it wouldn’t be enough to fully heal it but it was a good first step and Genna could processed to actually stick the wound

The process continued as Genna and the others moved to help one person after another. Genna smiled at everyone she helped, and tried to focus on each person as they came to visit her. She could feel pressure to help the men quickly who were coming but she focused on helping each to the best she could and quickly. From what she understood some battle could be much worse than this and much bigger, but she knew that couldn’t be lax.

Genna couldn’t say how long she had been working when she noticed that the crowd was much less. She gave a small breath of relief but focused on the middle woman who sat on her table. She had a large gash across her forehead. The healer had just sterilized the needle in a candle flame. She began the process of stitching. The woman had been talking on and off since she sat down and Genna started to heal her. The blue cloak nodded her head and responded with replies why she worked. She was almost done when the woman said.

“This gash has given me a massive headache do you have something for it.” The healer paused and looked closely into the woman’s eyes. A head ache could happen but Genna felt that it was something to look into. She finished the stitch and then began to feel around the woman’s head. Yes there it was on the back side of the head. As she pocked more the woman flinched. Genna was beginning to feel tired from the work but she pushed forward. This woman most likely had a skull fracture from who knows what. Genna couldn’t tell right away if it was more then a fracture but wrapped the woman’s head and put handed her over to a green cloak with clear instructions she was to be watched.

The Lysorian woman found herself not needed then. There were plenty of people moving around but at this point they had been taken care of or were being taken care of.

Genna pulled off her gloves and replaced them with new ones as she stepped away from her station. She looked around the room to see where she could help and then a corner of the room caught her eye. There were a couple healers moving about but most everyone seemed to be focused elsewhere. Genna felt a prickling in her eyes but she slipped on a kind smile and walked across the room.

The Lysorian healer was perfectly aware of the condition of these men. This was where those who were beyond healing had been placed but still hadn’t died. One of the healers who was actually stationed at the fortress moved up to Genna and stopped her from coming any closer. “Blue.” The man said, Genna guessed his was referring to her cloak. “These dead men. Unless you have an Immortal hidden in that bodice of yours there isn’t anything you can do.”

Genna looked into the man’s hard and tired eyes. He was a couple decades older then him, and his eyes and body language spoke of a hardened crust. She studied him for a moment longer and began to realize while he was rude he was also trying to show a kindness to her. The platinum healer had seen and done it here self, when someone was just beyond healing, for whatever reason, but the healer didn’t give up and became so invested in the efforts that they were traumatized by the death. Genna reached out and patted the man’s cheek. “I may not be able to heal them but I can see about helping their final passing.” The man’s intense eyes bored into hers and then he nodded.

Her steps small and gentle she moved in among the bed. She passed someone who had slipped into the final coma before death, and the next cot actually had a dead man. The next caught did have a man living and struggling. Genna knelt down and took the man’s hand in her own. Delusional with pain the man couldn’t really tell how she was, but he did recognize the presence of another human, and he squeezed Gennadiya’s hand. The pain didn’t leave his face but there was a bit his face relaxed at bit and his fussing seemed to quiet. The young woman began to hum softly a lullaby as she sat by the man. As she knelt there she heard.

“Mother.” Being called from the next cot over. Genna could tell the man was only barely conscious. She suspected that he was responding to the humming. The young woman reached over and brushed hair out of his eyes and continued to hmm. The healer stayed there for a few moments after each had passed away. She stood and offered human companionship where she could, there weren’t a lot of dying but Genna treated each as if they were special as in her heart she felt they were.

Some may have found the whole process depression and while Genna found it sad, she knew that she had brought comfort where she could and so made it so they weren’t alone on their final passage. Genna was prepared to join the nurses in preparing the bodies when she was summoned to help with someone who had pulled a stitch and was bleeding again. Her blue eyes closed briefly as she sent prayers for these soul. When they opened again there was resolve and she moved back among the living.

Comments: Your description of the healers preparing everything for the arrival of the wounded was quite detailed and interesting to read. I felt that those scenes were fairly realistic, and the scene where she helped the dying and kept them company was touching. I like that you also included Genna’s thoughts and feelings.
