Ember is a tortured soul. She escaped at a young age from her family. What could go wrong, she thought. She yearned for a life of adventure, of freedom. The preteen had no idea that her life was about to turn upside down. Just seasons after leaving civilization to be her own woman she was nearly starving. Of all the times she picked to leave, this had to be one of the worst. She survived off of quite literally whatever she could find in her desperate attempt to return back to the city she left.
Then He came. A mage came across her laying by a pond and saved her with his food and clean water. He convinced her to follow him and she happily went along only to find herself locked away in a cage, like an animal. She rationalized that it wasn’t so bad… she’d been saved. But freedom was just the first of many human rights that she had taken away from her. In essence she was this man’s to call his own.
For years Ember suffered under this man’s control. He was a grafter and was able to injure her then heal her in succession. Ember was hardly the first one subject to his wicked behavior, but she was the only one who kept sane enough to keep around. He treated her as a slave and rented her out for labor as a child and as a prostitute in her late teens. During this time she developed skills in acting and seduction. Her gift in acting was good enough for the grafter to rent her out to theatre groups as well, though she never got to play a prominent role.
After some time the grafter grew his ambitions. He wanted more victims and to do that he needed help. By the time Ember hit her twenties she had broken free from her captivity with the help of a dreamwalker she met in her sleep. This man was one that she fell in love with after he frequented her dreams for several months. He rescued her out of kindness and even taught her how to dreamwalk. Now she's free, though the scars she accumulated would always haunt her...
