[WIP] Uleudian Crystal

Name of Material: Uleudian Crystal
Type of Material: Craftable
How To Gather: Meditation
Skill Level/Skills Needed: Competent to gain crystal from the Crystal Forest, Expert to gather from places around the city of Uleuda, Master to gather from Yldria itself.
Rarity: Common in Uleuda, nonexistent elsewhere.
Durability: Basic crystals come from the Crystal Forest, Average Crystals come from the city of Uleuda, Masterwork Crystals come from Yldria
Estimated Price: Can't be purchased or transferred to Idalos. Otherwise Free to the one who harvests it. One must transfer knowledge to a crystal surface somewhere in Uleuda, in order to grow a crystal from it. Then harvest it with intent and will (Meditation). This requires the making of a thread where the crystal is listed as loot.
Native to: Uleuda

Crafting Information: To give shape to an Uleudian Crystal within Uleuda, the Yludih must be intimately familiar with a substance or object in Idalos. Thus, using the knowledge of the materials that go into the formation of such objects, they will transfer the memory of it, the properties and shape to a raw crystal. The crystal will then start to morph and refract until it resembles that item, albeit made from a prismatic Uleudian crystal with the shape of that object. At first, only solid objects can be manipulated at Competent, moving on to liquids at master, and perhaps even other phases of matter beyond Master meditation. Just about any item can be created, but a Yludih must be intimately familiar with it, either through possession of an Idalos version of that item, or else knowledge of how it's created in Idalos.

The Nulliem existing in the outskirts of Uleuda are vulnerable to these crystalline creations (one of the few things that can injure them from mere contact besides flashes of pure light), but also aggressive toward those who hold them. Theys are diminished by contact with the object, to the point where momentary contact can sever and shred entire limbs or sections from their body. Persistent contact will continually shrink them until they fade to nothing. Suits of armor have even been known to be made from them, and some of the most impressive warriors of Uleuda have entire sets that they've built themselves, their crystals coaxed from the heart of Yldria.

Often enough, as one becomes more capable of focusing their will through meditation, more properties can be imbued to a crystal object, beyond what is normally possible. By imbuing the crystal with the properties of rubber, they can make the Uleudian version of their average steel sword bounce like a rubber ball, for instance, while still sharp as the steel of the object it was natively inspired by. This creative property imbuing becomes available at expert, with one extra property that deviates from the object that they were aware of. At master, two additional properties can be imbued into Uleudian crystal.

Hiya Zun,

Fantastic! I'd love to give some feedback on this idea so we can see it approved. It does flesh out a part from Uleuda's lore very nicely

So if my understanding is correct this material, which only exists in Uleuda, is a crystal that can be shaped into any form through imagination and focus? That does make sense considering that Uleuda is a dream-like world. My only questions then regard the exact properties of this material.

1. Is this material limited to solid forms, or could it also replicate water?

2. You've mentioned that the crystal will assume the shape of the Idalosian object but still remains made of crystal. Does this then mean that it retains the properties of crystal and not the imagined object? For example of someone imaged a rubber ball the crystal would assume a ball shape, but would it then bounce when dropped on the floor?

3. You've mentioned that the shadowy creatures in Uleuda are vulnerable to these crystals, but what specific effect does it have on them? Does is shock them? Burn them? Give them a nasty rash.
I'm asking because this material seems useful enough as it is simple by the merit of being such a versatile tool. Just the fact that it can be made into a suit of armour and weapons so easily alone would make it extraordinary valuable to the Yludih. Having it draw the ire of the shadow creatures is a good drawback that I very much approve of, but I think that giving it additional strength against the shadow creatures is not especially necessary for such a useful material already.

That's all I have for now. What do you think?

Thanks for the excellent feedback, Trouble.

1. I've added a few passages to my latest edit that ensure that water and just about any material can be created, so long as the Yludih has the appropriate amount of meditation skill and familiarity with the object/material in Idalos, either through possession of that item or knowledge of how it's crafted. Competent (which is the starting point for Uleudian crafting) for solids, Expert for liquids, and Master for gas. Possibly grandmaster or tier 2 meditation can grant them even greater creativity, to where they can create energy effects and such. But that'd rely on capstones, most likely.

2. I've also added capability of imbuing objects with the properties that their Idalos version possessed. As well as the ability to imbue the object with extra properties, starting with one extra property at Expert, and two at Master.

3. It diminishes them, shrinks them. If contact persists with the shadow creatures, they will diminish into nothing, unless they retreat to recuperate in darkness.

This is looking great! Thank you for being so responsive to feedback.

There's just two last points I want to address.

1. Gasses and Energy. I apologies for any confusion I may have caused with my earlier feedback. Liquids I think might be an acceptable state for these crystals to mimic, but gasses and energy I feel might be a bit too far removed from the nature of a crystal. There doesn't seem to be a need for gasses in Uleuda nor any other form of energy (thought I must say the idea of crystal lightning bolts does seem pretty cool. ) Perhaps allow a master to form liquids, and remove any mentions of gasses or energy?

2. "The shadow creatures are diminished by contact with the object, to the point where persistent contact will continually shrink them until they fade to nothing." I like this explanation. It fits in with the existing lore on the Nulliem (shadow people) in the Uleuda lore: "Only death by a crystal spear can cause them to fold and forever disappear." I'd just like it to be made crystal clear (pun intended) what rate this diminishing effect occurs at. Would a quick strike be enough to significantly diminish them? Or would a Nulliem need to be pinned down and impaled with one of these crystals for a while in order to be destroyed? This detail may seem small put it will effect the nature of combat using these crystals in Uleuda.
