A Night Out On the Town

It was strange to be back amongst the standards of normalcy with the people he knew, for Ricky had been far too caught up in the mission he'd just returned from the trial prior. Now that it was over though he felt the capacity to relax once more, and while the crew were more than happy to see him return; they didn't think it appropriate to judge badger him for details. Even with what so very little he dared to tell them, as Ricky himself only said it was a personal favor for Faith, they were all very eager to celebrate his return from wherever he'd gone. Indeed the flight back from Ne'haer was a tedious one and while he felt weary from the travel, the sailor still enjoyed every moment spent way up in the air somehow.

It got him to wondering about his other gift now, in which the possibility of achieving some kind of flight with it. But all of that was merely curiosity and theory he kept to himself, since the crew also had no idea what happened last Ashan either. Needless to say when they were all settled in at The Swallowing Rooster, the whole lot sat at a table together with Rhukan sitting on his knees. Being the massively blue Ithecal he was, chairs tended to be easily crushed under his weight. But of course that didn't stop him from joining in with everyone, as three tankards were passed around the group while they waited for the cook to bring out some grub.

Having the room lit dimly with lanterns and a large number of the local populace in, it was no surprise that the crowd Enrick came here with seemed just as loud also. If there was one thing about this city and its people, it was that they all knew and loved to have a good time drinking. "Enrick, drink up!" Captain Hannah almost sounded scoldish towards him, since he did more watching than drinking. "Tonight's about y' after all, find a sense o' celebration why don't ya!"

"Still a bit tired from d' trip is all." Matthew and Roy both bolstered a laugh at his response.

"Ya hear dat mates?! Enrick's been so busy wooin' dis woman dat he's all outta energy!" Matt vigorously teased with a spot of red in his cheeks, likely already buzzed from the mead he heavily drank.

"Fer yer infermation mate, she's already married an' definitely dun wanna do anyt'ing wit' me." Enrick chided in return with a wry smile, albeit the hues of his eyes were a solid oak brown as he stared at the man. These lot were much like the guys back at home on Scalvoris, always looking to give Enrick a solid hard time in some way. Though the crew were certainly far better at it, more so than the fisherman Enrick worked with back home.

"Then why would she go out 'er way t' kiss ya t'en huh? Sounds t' me ye doin' more tan just personal favors!" Roy chimed in with an elbow judded towards Frederick, as he quickly blushed since he made that little thing public knowledge. The brown in his eyes brightened way to fast, with a solid yellow to signal that they'd poked a very obvious nerve. "See lads, he's gettin' all bashful now!"

"Eh, yer just bein' a pain in the ass." Was that all he could say back? The way his fellow peers laughed and enjoyed his company, even if they teased him so much, somehow made him feel almost a newfound sense of home with the lot. It was strange since he never thought about before but now... "Oi'll be back," the sailor remarked towards the group with a rise out of his chair, "we clearly need a couple refills if we're gonna drink de rest o' de night." Hannah looked to him speculatively, almost concerned even, but smiled as she said nothing and watched him go. The rest of the group yammered on loudly about other things when he walked away, such as how much fun a couple of the boys had at the Harlot 'n' Hound. As he arrived at the bar and could still hear his group, somehow the loudest in the tavern, both laugh and yell about whatever subject fascinated the lot then.

Thus he sighed still with a trace of yellow in his eyes. "Could Oi get a couple o' refills please?"

Cail smiled seeing how Paige and Triton were already asleep. Most nights it was a fight to get the two of them to lay down. The puppy was always high energy and for the most part so was the child. Taking a deep breath, the woman closed the door to the cabin and walked off the boat. She doubted that the child or dog would move again that night. Her boots clicked as the woman made her way to one of the taverns. The Biqaj was not one for drinking but getting away from lessons and the boat would do her mind some good.

Looking around the city as the sky had darkened was an interesting sight. It was not long that the glow from the lights inside of the buildings lit the streets. It was still warm, so the woman had decided to go with only her tank top and a part of loose pants with her boots. Most establishments did not approve of their patrons being barefooted. The Biqaj slowed down and looked at the sign of what appeared to be a bar or tavern of some kind. The Swallowing Rooster. An eyebrow raised as she walked over to the door and went inside.

The patrons did not seem as rowdy as some others that she had seen. It was a pleasant surprise for the woman. Popping her neck, the woman pulled her hair up into a ponytail and walked around some. Weaving in between the tables, she was as careful as she could be not to bump into anyone that was sitting down. The last thing that Cail wanted to do was start a fight her first time on the town. After finding Paige and joining the Order there had not been as much time for her to explore like originally planned. Turning to apologize, the brown-haired woman did not see that she was about to walk right into someone. Grunting she quickly backed up blushing brightly embarrassed.

“I am so sorry!” Cail said quickly.

She was not sure how the man would react to some stranger just bumping into him. Brown eyes looked up at him and was shocked to see that he looked like a sailor. Most that the woman had met seemed to be much larger and more scarred up from fighting so long. Adrenaline caused her heart rate to pick up as she moved back away from the man nearly bumping into someone else again. It was clear that the woman was more nervous than she should have been.

The squinty eyed barmaid seemed a little edgy in dealing with his request, but it probably stemmed from a variety of reasons. While not chaotic their establishment had a lot of business going on, and the staff seemed a little on the short-handed side as is. Plus with a whole crew of sailors hanging about, making a large ruckus, and drinking all of their alcohol; that likely didn't make the job any more fun for them to handle. Regardless Enrick waited patiently for them at the bar, as they did what he requested by providing him with the refills of the flagons. He honestly had little inclination to worry or care, they could use the business anyways; so it was worth putting up with a bunch of noisy outlanders anyways. "T'anks." He remarked with the yellow in his eyes gone, the dull oak brown back as he grabbed two flagons in one hand and the third in his other.

He started confident in his walk back but the turn towards their table proved they were indeed brimming over, the lousy bar keepers likely aware of this from the getgo without any real warning. That's okay. While he didn't care for the sticky ale running down his fingers, whatever dropped to the floor would be their responsibility. Looking at the crew now he could see that a couple seemed to low key watch him, the obvious one being Fred since he was always more considerate than the rest. Yet Enrick didn't feel the need for anyone to help him out, it wasn't hard walking with three full flagons anyways. It just proved to be a challenge not to spill anymore, especially since along the way another nearly backed into him from his left. The sailor didn't necessarily have anything to say about it, at least not right away, but when it seemed the woman had turned and started to apologize; he briefly shot her a small smile in hopes that she'd get the intent. No harm no foul.

He didn't waste time on lingering though, the booze needed to get back to his crew. Thus he finished the stride in earnest to provide his small 'family' with their drinks. "Oy, I think tha girl over there bumped int' someone else." Fred quickly pointed out as the rest looked her way, Enrick included since he had a feeling he knew who was referenced. Had she really done so? Come to think about it she looked nervous, under stress for someone who had come into a public establishment such as this. Was she alone? Did she have nobody with her?

"Oi'll be back." Enrick remarked to his crew members, mainly the captain since she seemed intrigued also. Sure enough Enrick weaved his way past a couple moving locals, quick to ignore the tease of 'saving a damsel in distress' from Matthew along the way. Once he got there he made sure to assess the situation visually, since he wasn't sure if she'd already did bump into another after nearly doing so with him. She looked to be a pretty little thing, definitely young, but well framed for someone of her own stature. While he could've guessed she were a sailor or Biqaj, Enrick barely made such assumptions on the go; plus the only real indication would've been the change in eye color. Which she didn't seem to initially demonstrate as her eyes were brown, while Enrick's own went from brown to a union of cerulean and silver at the sight of her.

"Oy, everythin' okay 'ere?" He checked with a look to any who might've stood near or next to her, since he was here to make sure nobody started any trouble for the lass. Little did he suspect...

"Is everythin' okay here? No problems I hope." The captain herself had stated as she arrived next to him, a lean onto Enrick's arm as she crossed her arms. Which probably didn't help with the situation if there was one, but nevertheless Hannah was ready to step in and help if need be; an unusual thing since she hardly demonstrated such activity towards random strangers.

Cail smiled nervously and bows her head glad that he did not get mad at her. Though like usual it was not long before the woman had run smack into someone else once again not looking where she was going. Grunting some, the biqaj looked up and immediately cursed herself for even entering the tavern. The woman instantly tried to back up and figure out how to get around the large man standing before her. Chuckling nervously, the young biqaj squeaked a little when the larger man grabbed her by the shirt and pulled her close to his face.

“What do we have here? A mouse that’s not in its hole,” the large man growled.

Cail closed her eyes and crinkled her nose at the smell of alcohol on his breath. She had never been a huge drinker. But an ale or two every once in a while never hurt her feelings. However this time it seemed she was in more trouble without the alcohol than with it. The chuckle that sounded from behind the man did not bode well for the woman. Her mind raced as Cail tried to figure out what her options were. Truthfully she did not want to get into a fight and get banned from anywhere within the city. But that was looking more and more to be her only option. Taking a deep breath to help calm her nerves, the woman went to move her leg back as quietly as she could so he wouldn’t see the hit coming.

A male voice from behind her caused the young Biqaj to stop her movements. Looking back as best she could, the woman saw the male that she had previously bumped into and a female that leaned against his arms. She could not figure out if the two were together or were simply friends that decided to take pity on her. Either way the female was more than glad for the distraction hoping the big man would just throw her to the ground and skulk off.

“Hmph, this little mouse must be yours then,” the man growled and picked her up before tossing her at the pairs feet, “keep your filth at your table. Before the little thing starts something she can’t finish.”

Cail sat up rubbing her hip ignoring the little bit of blood that was trying to fall from a small cut on her elbow. Waiting till the man had turned around, the young girl stuck her tongue out at his back before standing up. Wincing, it was clear she would be feeling the bruises the next morning. Turning to the pair that stood before her the woman bowed before raising back up again.

“Thank you for coming to my aid. My name is Cail Qy’Jihai,” Cail stated with a smile, “I do hope I can repay the favor.”

Enrick was already set on getting ready to assail the man in question, as the brute of a drunkard had already taken to get grabby with the poor girl. Sure enough the interference of not just one, but two, foreigners led the individual to drop the poor woman at their feet. Enrick was already about to move in after seeing that act, but a quick and slender hand at his forearm was all the warning he needed. They were outsiders here after all, and the last thing he needed was to stir the pot. One look at Hannah and he could see it too, his reddened irides watched as her cheeks tensed from a clenched jaw. The Captain was all for the idea of getting in on the action, as the other members wouldn't hesitate to jump in with the assist.

But no... Enrick held his own tongue as Hannah remarked towards the man, clearly just as relieved to see the drunk walking away without another response. "Not to worry, we'll treat her much better." Certainly way better than the reception the poor girl received just now, one look over his shoulder and Ricky could see it. The crew were ready for action in just a moment, now that the situation had been diffused however; they looked more interested in their new guest. "Hm?" Hannah's gaze drifted from the onlookers the drunk had returned to, a moment of confusion found in her eyes before she shot a smile. "Oh it was nothin, poor Rick here felt bad so we decided to check in. Good thing too, that wago certainly wouldn't have played nice."

Enrick couldn't help but scoff a short chuckle, the look in his eyes now a cerulean color as he too focused on Cail. Strange how she seemed to speak in the same manner they did, the only slight difference in articulation being the indication that they weren't part of the same crew. "Nah, ain't nothin' t' be repaid. Far as Oi can tell, w' pretty much even now." Since he did technically almost bump her earlier, and that about caused this whole mess to begin with... nevertheless a glance over at Hannah and Enrick knew she was up to something. The glint in her eyes couldn't be mistaken, for he'd been around her long enough to tell.

"Actually I know just the thing! Of course you don't have to if you don't want to, but you could always sit with us and have a few drinks! The crew does like to get a little rowdy though, so at least consider letting Rick here keep you company." And there it was... the devious grin that the pirate always liked to possess, when she knew she had found a way to make things develop interestingly.

"Seriously..." He thought to himself in silence. He just about glared at her as he suspected there to be motive behind this. Was she trying to just goat him into socializing, or actually setting both Cail and him up for trouble with such an idea.

"Oh but your bleeding! Freddy can take a look at that for you if you like, he's good when it comes to dressing injuries." Now that seemed a little more genuine, if not part of the invitation for Cail to join in on their fun. Regardless if she wanted to sit around with the crew, or preferred differently, Enrick wasn't going to argue with the situation any. He just hoped Hannah didn't push Cail into any awkward situation neither she nor Ricky were prepared for...

Cail was glad that the pair had not asked for money when she opened her mouth about owing them. That was what had the woman just nervously dancing around the tavern. She had not made much in the way of business since making it to Rharne. Of course, the move to join the Order had helped settle her nerves some. Though staying in one place seemed to go against everything that the woman had been taught. She decided it would be better not only for herself but also for Paige. The child did not deserve a life on the sea; Cail could remember what it was like growing up only having the adults on her father’s ship to keep her company for a long time.

A blush crossed her face when the woman suggested the two sit alone. Though the man was handsome to say the least neither knew the others name. The last thing she expected was that he would want to be alone with her. Especially after having just “saved” her from being pounded through the boards. Cail took the moment of the pair staring at each other to look at the other members of their group. She was surprised to see they had taken an interest on what had just happened. Cail figured that meant either the male or female was their captain. Her suspicions was that the male was the leader; she knew from personal experience getting a man to listen to a woman was not an easy task.

“I doubt he would want to sit with someone he barely knows. If your crew doesn’t mind I will join you at your group table,” Cail said gently trying not to let her nerves show.

She quickly followed behind the pair when they began to walk back to the table. The young Biqaj had not been that nervous since the day she tried to hire a crew. It had all ended up too much for her so she and Triton had set off alone from then on. As they got closer her nervous began to pick up as her heartbeat pounded against her chest. A burning on her arm made the woman look down and fully acknowledge the cut on her elbow. When they finally made it to the table the young woman stayed a step behind the one called Ricky and his female companion.

“Well well, look at what a beaut ‘ol Ricky brought back. Send ‘im fer drinks and he comes back wit a lady. Don’t be shy we don’t bite… too hard,” Roy said with a laugh as they shifted.

A large lizard moved an unused chair over from a different table for her to sit at. Thanking him nervously, the woman took her seat trying to mentally work through her nerves. Cail tried her best to hide the deep breath she took to help calm her enough to speak. She did not wish them to think her rude. The woman listened closely trying to commit names to faces as each introduced themselves. A smile appeared on her face as they did not seem quite as intimidating as before hand.

“Hello to you all. My name is Cail Qy’jihai. But you can all just call me Cail. I do hope I am not interrupting your evening too much. I do not get a chance to get out often as of late,” Cail stated with a nervous chuckle.

“Nonsense, our captain may be thick headed, but the man knows how to save beautiful damsels in distress,” Roy said with a laugh.

The woman blushed at being called beautiful again. She had never been the kind to receive praise of that sort. Cail looked when another crew member stood up and walked around. When he knelt to tend to her arm the woman remembered him calling himself Fred. He must have been the one the woman had spoke of earlier. Looking around the girl could not stop the next question that came from her mouth.

“How did you all meet?” Cail asked.

It sounded as though Cail had some sense about Enrick's behavior already, even though he would've easily put aside such a trivial matter anyways. Not knowing someone wasn't something that kept him at bay though, usually it was the getting to know people aspect which bothered him. Typically because he hardly ever associated with anybody before ever leaving Scalvoris, and yet here he was now all part of some crew he never would've thought to join. "Awe, that's great!" Hannah almost sounded far too pleased, her enthusiasm only matched by the sharp grin she displayed. "Enrick's not such bad company, but he does like to play the tough guy." Hannah teased with a nudge into his side, which gave him all the more reason to briefly glare at her. "Come on, it'll be fun sitting down with us!"

Enrick could only sigh as he followed the woman's lead, the both of them the first to return to their table with the rest. "What was that all 'bout??" Matthew quickly checked as he noticed the third that followed them, already in a quick lean to quietly address their captain.

"A stray," Hannah answered as Enrick found his seat, "we''ll let her join us for the eve. Freddy you should check that elbow for her, once she finds her spot to sit down at." As Hannah finished Roy was quickly one of the first to address Cail's arrival, his welcome a bit more over the top than necessary. Both Enrick and Rhukan looked at him for a moment, before the Ithecal reached over to provide the lass with her own chair. Roy was quick to see where it was her seat had been placed, which ironically was between Rhukan himself and Enrick who resumed drinking beer. "Cail sweetie you know Ricky already, but these are the rest of the boys. First mate Matthew," the moustached man shot an inquisitive stare before nodding at her.

"Rhukan!" The blue scaled Ithecal softly barked as he looked to her from his side, his golden eye almost as intense as Matthew's look from before.

"Pardon me miss." Freddy checked to make sure she knew he was there, which he quickly looked to inspect her injury right after.

"That one there's Frederick, but we all just call him Freddy." Hannah added as he finished his inspection, ripping a strip of cloth from his shirt to use as a bandage. "The quiet one is Floyd," in response to the introduction the man across from Enrick waved briefly, "and Roy just so happens to be the one smitten with ya." After all their introductions were out of the way, Cail took it upon herself to do the same in return with the crew. The reception she received was more or less positive as everyone, save for Matthew, seemed more on the welcoming side in their own way. Matthew was always the stickler of the group however, hardly ever accustomed to change when it came on so suddenly. Hell it even took an entire season for him to 'like' Enrick, which was essentially the point of where he talked to him instead of at him now.

Then Roy... "“Nonsense, our captain may be thick headed, but the man knows how to save beautiful damsels in distress!" The man? Rhukan and both looked to him questionably, aware of his jokes and humor but definitely off guard by the angle.

"Har har." Enrick feigned a laugh and sure enough, the rest started to join in with their actual laughs. It was no secret he did sail alone for a while, and while he possessed a ship no longer he was still it's captain. Essentially that meant there were two captains at present, and the slower ones took longer to catch on; but Hannah looked begrudgingly amused at the drunken crew member before chuckling along. It was clear now what the intent was, polishing Enrick up to look like hot shit in front of the new girl.

"Indeed, our maelstrom treader is unstoppable when it comes t' saving poor souls." Enrick shot a glare with orange hues in his irides, right towards Hannah as she seemed impossibly pleased; there was no doubt that she found amusement in all of this. Thus the rest of the crew did as well, up until a genuine question seemed to come out of the blue. Where did they all meet? Now that was something unexpected, and yet it dawned on Enrick that even he didn't know. He'd never thought to ask such a thing before, and yet after spending nearly all of Ashan with them...

"Well that's a curious question!" The actual captain looked a little more introspective now, aware that the color in Enrick's eyes had become silver quite swiftly. "I don't think anybody's ever asked that actually."

"Captain Hannah used t' be First Mate t' another, with me as his second until a disagreement arose." Matthew answered for her, his sharp gaze shared between both Cail and Ricky. "We had a fallin' out wit' our previous cap'n, so she decided t' put 'er own crew together; an' I went wit' 'er t' become 'er first mate."

"Floyd came with us too, and we eventually made port in Ivorian for a bit. Rhukan signed on while we were there, and we moseyed our way to Ne'haer where we met both Frederick and Roy. Been sailin' together for a while now, and here recently we found our other 'captain' drifting in the cold sea." That was his part of the story... Ricky's inclusion which he didn't expect to hear. "Poor bastard was so cold he could barely hold onto that barrel he clung to!"

"An' yet sometimes Oi wonder why Oi didn't jump back in..." He remarked with a feigned sense of irritation, which quickly led to the others laughing at his expense.

"For someone who soaked in de ocean for as long as he did, his humor's still dry as a dusty book when you consider it." The captain couldn't help but laugh at him once more, her brown eyes focused on Cail now that the story was told. However Enrick noticed that they didn't go fully into the story, only that both Hannah and Matthew talked of where they came from. This other 'captain' they sailed with, he could only wonder who it was now. It'd be something he'd have to ask them later, when everyone wasn't so damn drunk and rowdy like they were tonight. "So how about you Cail?" Hannah inquired as everyone, Enrick included, gradually looked to her with various levels of curiosity. "You don't look like a mainlander, and Ricky here certainly didn't mind comin' to yer aid. Where 're you from?"

Cail shifted so that Freddy would have an easier time getting to her elbow when he made his presence known. She did not want the man to feel more hindered than their current confines already provided. The woman watched closely as she waved or nodded to each in turn. The one named Roy seemed a lot more joking than the Biqaj had seen from previous sailors. The giant blue Ithecal was another surprise, the woman had not seen many of them if any that actually sailed as a crew member. The more each was introduced the more Cail wanted to understand how the female kept an entire male crew under control.

Of course, control was not the correct word, but it would do for the moment. Her mind buzzed trying to commit as much to memory as she could while the woman talked. Blue eyes cut over to the one who she had said was named Matthew when he spoke of how he and the captain had been crew members. That helped clear some things up, the young captain was sure it was easier to already have a crew member that completely trusted your judgement.

The woman listened intently while looking at each member wondering how everyone got along so well with their many different personalities. Surely they had arguments with how each of them thought. The woman wanted to know more about becoming a leader. That was one of the few things that her father had not passed on to her, before sending her out on her own. The way their relationships were explained, Cail felt like they were a family. A part of her missed that connection. When she was asked about herself the woman was taken back for a moment but she knew was not surprised.

“I am not a mainlander no. I come from a well respected Biqaj cargo convoy. Like most young Biqaj, when I came of age my father sent me out to make a name for myself. He gave my express commands not to use his name. The way I was raised it only counts if you can make your clients trust you with your talent and knowledge. It hasn’t been the smoothest “sailing” for me so far… how did you earn the respect of your crew?” Cail asked looking at the female captain truly curious.
