Frantic squawking sounds drove Lei'lira from her much needed rest. She hastily dressed, and ran out of the cottage she shared with her twin. Feathers flew about madly, and she could see a streak of red race away into the darkness. Anger and frustration made her movements abrupt as Lei'lira counted her chickens. Five. Thankfully none of them had been taken by the would be chicken thief. Tory, the rooster was safe, as well. And judging by his fluffed up appearance, and challenging squawks, Lei'lira guessed that he might have played a part in making sure that his hens survived the raid. Shinta was barking madly as well, but made no move to chase after the invader.
"Darn fox! That's the third time this week!" Lei'lira grumbled to herself.
She peered into the darkness, but could see no signs that the fox was lingering nearby to try again. So she headed back inside to try and get a little more sleep before she had to get up and begin her chores.
That's it. No more. Tomorrow, I go hunting. she thought as she drifted back to sleep.
Morning came all too soon, and Lei'lira yawned as Tory's crowing woke her. She took a few trills to give Shadow a brief cuddle before feeding the animals. Star seemed to be settling in well, and she was eager for the grain she was offered. She got along well with Kaiyu, and while she had yet to show signs of being in heat, Lei'lira hoped to ask her sister if she could breed the mare to her stallion when the time came.
After the animals had been seen to, Lei'lira began to see about making a meal for herself. The hens had laid poorly since they were stressed out over the recent attacks, but Lei'lira had still managed to find a couple of eggs. It wasn't much, but it would make a modest breakfast for her, and Lazuli if she wanted some, too.
Lei'lira cracked the eggs on the edge of her soup bowl one by one. As she did so, she was careful not to get any bits of shell in the bowl. She added a bit of milk, and salt, then scrambled the eggs with one of her forks. When the eggs were mixed well enough, she poured them into her frying pan, and held it over the fire so the eggs to cook. Every so often, she'd use her fork to turn the eggs so they wouldn't burn. It didn't take long, and when they were ready, she divided the eggs up onto two plates. One would be for Lazuli when she came out of her room, and the other was for her. Lazuli's portion was placed at her seat, and if her sister entered the room while she was eating, she would offer it to her.
