Poor Choby (Open to Augustin Residents)

Cylus 20, 719

Choby was a happy, go lucky young man. He still lived at home with his parents. His mother was a local baker, his father ran a courier business. This was the same business Choby joined when he came of age. And he loved it. It let him run all over Rharne and he was such a charming boy that he often got tips. Sometimes this was coin, sometimes it was a pie, sometimes it was a new pair of socks.

And it was this job that let Choby meet a young lady. Sybil. Sybil was a lovely young lass. She helped her mother run a flower shop. She was nice, she often brought fresh, donated flowers to the Order of Adunih so that the place looked lively each and every single day. The pair were in love. Though Choby hadn't yet asked, they both knew they were destined to be wed.

And it was that drive that pushed Choby to take a job that was normally given to one of the older, more experienced couriers. He accepted the job that would take him to Faith's house, down by Lake Lovalus. Most people would assume it was a normal job, just like any other, and most people would be right. The majority of days, delivering a letter or package to the Augustin residence was a walk in the park.

But that wasn't every day. It certainly wasn't this day. Choby was carrying a letter for Faith. And he was walking toward the property. He slipped through the gate, heading for the front door. It was still early, for Choby wanted to get this one done, so he could meet Sybil for breakfast. He even spent extra on this fancy smoked butter to go with the biscuits. He was whistling a tune, not seeing the huntress that was sitting beneath the window, next to the bushes.

Qit'ria came out here while Caza was still sleeping sometimes. She'd been feeling her hands shake when she looked at the little girl for too long. Her mind kept focusing on that last image in her mind before she died. She saw her daughter, being surrounded by those undead that she destroyed. Qit died, but she knew that all the undead weren't destroyed when she died. So what stopped them from getting to Caza and Faith?

She saw Choby approach the door and knock on it. She didn't know him. Didn't know why there'd be a stranger on the property. Her eyes grew wide. He was here for Caza. She rushed over to him, to shove him out of the way of the doorway, to yell and and attack him. But as she pushed, her hands disappeared into his back, and she fell into him.

And suddenly, she was him. She could feel things again. She could feel a heart beating blood through her chest. She was... alive. Her eyes grew wide and smiled broad. She saw the package in her manly hands. She looked back at the door, and knocked against it again. Deliver this, then try out this new body.
Note
I will leave this open to any person living in the Augustin Residence for 1 week. If no one joins in that time, I'll solo it out.

Sometimes, it was so easy to remember that Greyhide hadn't always been a wolf. In fact, for most of his life, he'd been... well, someone. Since leaving that old life behind, to say he'd been tight-lipped on his human past would be a vast understatement. There were a few little details he'd managed to pick up, though. At one time he might have been a scholar; his curiosity had the edge of a seasoned academic, thorough and rigid, even if it most often err on the side of caution over the wild experiments of the stereotypical 'mad' scientist. Even in this new skin, he'd never lost his sense of manners, meaning he was either very well-raised, or simply a good and honest man, even if he tended to descend into boyish vulgarity in the privacy of their minds. His sense of duty and chivalry were practically unmatched, and yet it was nothing martial... or at least, it hadn't been at the beginning. More the selfless sacrifice of a kind stranger, to one that was obviously in need of it. Young. Brash, but kind. Stern but fair. It was little wonder they'd managed to fare so well together. Nir saw so much of himself in the wolf, he often wondered if Greyhide was ever a true Rynmerian as he so often claimed... or if Nir'wei himself was truly of Desnind.

"If you really are so desperate to learn mathematics, you know I could always teach you," Greyhide said suddenly, hot condensed breath puffing from his nostrils in a pale white cloud as they padded together towards Faith's house.

He glanced back, rubbing the wolf gently between the ears. "That's very kind of you, and I appreciate the gesture, but no, I'm not learning mathematics from a wolf. Besides, it's not just numbers, it's... all the other stuff." Padraig wasn't just a lecturer on all that stuff, after all. He was an alchemist. A very good one, from the way Faith blabbered on endlessly. No, he had absolutely no idea what alchemy really was; he could only go by its reputation, and its products. He'd thought often of commissioning pieces, bags that could make anything put into them weigh the same as feathers, or perhaps a cloak that could change colour to match the background... but they were all wildly, unbelievably expensive, and rare. What better way to cut out the middleman than learn it for himself? Plus, he'd never spent much time with Padraig, he had to admit. Faith was always the recipient of his attention, without fail or fault. Time to expand his circle just a little.

As he pushed open the gate and started for the front door, he paused, eyes widening. Someone at the door, wearing the drab outfit of a courier. Something for Faith, perhaps? "Hey-o!" he called out, Greyhide already padding on ahead to the door and giving the courier little more than a passing sniff, clearly disinterested. "Want me to take that for you? I'll leave it inside, if that's alright. Don't worry, heh. I'm a good friend."

Qit'ria was so excited, so overwhelmed at the prospect of feeling alive, so enamored with the idea of being able to do things again, that she didn't really consider who it was that was now talking to her. As far as she was concerned, it could've been Padraig. Or Cylus. It didn't matter really, she was alive! Albeit in a man's body. She'd not had much experience, aside from that one time in Rynmere. Still, alive was alive.

She handed over the letter to the man, "Thank you. More work." She nodded at the man, and turned, and left the Augustine residence. It was time to test out the boundaries of this new ability. The first was almost literal. She knew the rough range she could move away from her anchors. And Caza's ended right around the gate to the property. So Qit'ria walked toward it. While she was concerned for Caza's care, she knew the child would sleep for a while longer, just as she'd done nearly every day lately.

Qit'ria walked purposefully, right up to the edge. And then she took a big, dramatic, leaping step, as though jumping over a stream. And there was no pull! She had slipped her leash! Ecstatic, Qit'ria immediately began to run up the road toward the city, a giant grin upon Choby's face. The lad was in decent shape, but Qit'ria immediately felt the burn in muscles of his as she ran. He clearly wasn't as good at it as she was in life, but it mattered not. She set his flat feet to work, making sure to land mid foot, so as to not waste the strides.

Within her, she felt the poor boy cowering in a corner of his mind, but she ignored it. Today was a day to be enjoyed! She let out a loud hoot and a holler, taking in deep gulps of air as she hurled her way up toward the city. Now it was time to figure out what to do with her new body!

Taking the letter in hand and nearly turning his back without a second thought, he paused, mulling the words and furrowing his brow. "Wait, what did you mean by--" he started to ask, before stopping mid-sentence. The young lad had already turned his back and walked towards the gate, stopped... bent his knees, swung his arms and threw himself forwards in the most ridiculous, applause-worthy leap of his life. Honestly, was he dense in the head? He didn't even get to ask. Just like that he sprinted off at full tilt towards Rharne city, as fast as his little legs could carry him, leaving Nir and his wolf limply grasping an ordinary letter and staring with the most perplexed look on their faces. "Okay. I don't need to know one plus one to know that that was weird."

"Actually, it's two," the wolf replied without missing a beat or turning away from the distant speck of a fleeing courier.

Nir'wei stuffed the letter rudely in the wolf's open mouth, not caring for how it scrunched the paper or smeared it with wolf slobber. "Shut up." Indignation floated through their bond and he made the mental image of a goofy face sticking its tongue out at him. It was what he deserved. "Put that inside and follow me." Ther was a dejected sigh and the rattle of the wolf turning spirit-form and placing the letter inside before joining him again, as he followed in the footsteps of the chubby courier, briefly taking a moment to examine the wooden gate and its frame thoroughly. No wires. Nothing out of the ordinary. So what the hell was going on here? Had he set a trap? Was there something in the letter? "Can you find him?"

Silly question. They'd already seen the direction he was going, following the path straight towards the city; except he was running, at full speed no less, and had a proper head start on them both to boot. Instead, they'd just follow the scent directly and take a short-cut. Seemed like the much easier option, after all. "Straight back the way we came, but curve it a little to the left." That was exactly what they did. Cutting through dense forest at a light leisurely trot, vaguely within sight of the worn path but with plenty of foliage between them to make a nice buffer, for when they finally caught up again. Not that it was really too hard to find him, it wasn't long before they heard all the hoots and yells of excitement as he ran noisily at full pelt. "Jeez, he's an eager one, isn't he?"

"You can say that again." The guy looked like he'd just gotten away with murder.

Re: Poor Choby (Open to Augustin Residents)

A shame that this thread was abandoned, it seemed to be going well.

I hope the rewards work as a consolation.

Edit: Qit'Ria's rewards have been added.
