Appearance

Azrael looks much like he does in the provided image. He has black hair, a well kept beard , and often wears war paint on his face to honor his father but he does not always wear it. The image depicts Azrael with his war paint on. On his right arm he wears a gauntlet with his father's spring loaded dagger.

Personality

Azrael is a playful cynic. At his core he believes that people only act when they have something to gain from it and that belief has kept him out of any serious danger for most of his life. He doesn't buy into people being "charitable" and he doesn't ever expect them to. Despite that, Azrael is also arguably the life of any party he goes to. He is a naturally charismatic guy and is very friendly to those around him. He works well with others but that isn't to say he should be relied on because at the end of the day he will do what is best for himself just like he expects everyone else to. Nobody has ever shown him that the world works any other way.

Azrael (Az) Blackfire is the son of a man with a white eye and a crooked nose and a woman with purple eyes and a sadly beautiful face. His mother was a performer in a traveling band of half breeds and his father was an assassin who joined up with the group because they provided him the perfect cover to move from city to city while he, in exchange, provided them with protection from the cities they went to. His mother taught him her trade- entertainment- and his father taught him a darker trade. The trade of assassins. He taught Azrael the blade and how to use shadows to hide. Yet it was remarkably his mother who introduced him to the Tunawa who would eventually craft poisons for him. There were some Tunawa in the camp and when they passed through more dense Tunawa areas they helped Az negotiate with and learn from the people. Azrael learned from both of his parents but it was his father who's stern hand stole Azrael's faith in humanity. The only way to do what they did was to ensure you didn't have any regrets. When Azrael killed his first man, he knew the life of an assassin was not for him. It felt wrong, unclean and unfair. He told his father and his father was disappointed. Azrael had the talent he just didn't have the stomach for what they did. Azrael preferred to give his opponents a chance. After he realized he didn't want to be an assassin he devoted more time to the show business and entertainment. He took on acting and found his ability for disguise served him well on the stage. Yet tragedy struck again one night and the entire troop including his parents were killed by a bandit raid. With his parents and everyone he'd ever known dead or gone, Azrael set out on his own to find a purpose.

Azrael's search took him to many places across the world. He stayed in many different inns and met many different people. He made his money by taking up small jobs in all the cities he stayed. Mostly acting in plays in towns that had open auditions. He wasn't avoiding conflict but it wasn't a stable source of income. In fact if anything it seemed to force him to keep moving. Then poor circumstance and a vastly under-guarded village lead Azrael to take up his first job as what can only really be described as a mercenary. Life has a way of letting Azrael down. Eventually the acting work dried up and Azrael still refused to return to being an assassin. He felt at the time that he could do better than his father. He thought better had to mean he was doing something else. Az joined a mercenary group just before they left the city and he spent a few years with them learning what he could before he finally set out on his own again. The life of a mercenary was not all that different than the life of an assassin. You essentially killed for hire even if you protested that mercenaries just killed those who got in their way. Az learned quickly that employers had ways of putting people they wanted dead in the way. So he dropped that job as well. Granted the fact that his mercenary group conspired with a village head to murder him may have aided his choice to leave.

So Az was left wandering on his own. You read more books when you are by yourself on the road. Books told him of treasures and his youth did the rest. Today he continues his travels around the world in search of treasures. Not necessarily power. He hasn't found anything of great significance yet and his passions constantly divert his focus from the treasure hunting but he lives a life of adventure and he enjoys it.
