Ari's Dreams

Stranger in a Strange Land

Ari'sora is something of a mystery. As her writer, she is my newest PC, and I am still trying to get a feel for who she is, and what she wants out of life. That sense of the unknown is a big factor in her IC life as well. For most of her life, she was incredibly isolated. She knew three people; her mother, her sister, and Ren'zar, her guardian. She also saw people who worked for Ren'zar coming and going, but she knew from a very young age that the more she could stay out of their way, and eye, the better. It rarely went well when they noticed her.

On top of that, her mother hated her. She blamed Ari'sora for existing and for reminding her of her father, an Avriel who was a cruel master before her mother was able to escape him. Ren'zar was more of a master than a guardian for all that Ari'sora was never officially enslaved. And she and her sister have a complicated relationship at best. They do love each other in their own way, but Mi'zurl was indifferent to Ari'sora for much of their childhood. Mi'zurl was loved by her mother...more than Ari'sora was, at least. And Mi'zuri was often punished for showing any kindness to Ari'sora. What kindness she did show Ari'sora was therefore done in secret, and only when it was unlikely that she would be caught. Ren'zar cared nothing for either of the girls, save for how he could use them.

Growing up, Ari'sora never set foot outside Ren'zar's house and garden. Her only glimpses into the world came from books. So her knowledge of...well...anything comes from bits and pieces of things she has read over the arcs when she earned the reward of some reading time with the work she did around the house. That saved her from being completely ignorant, but her "education" such as it was did nothing to teach her how to deal with people...or any kind of social skills at all.

As a result, people are a very complicated thing to Ari'sora. She sees them as Other, and since she has known little in the way of kindness for most of her life, her first instinct is that they are a dangerous Other. She does not understand them, can't read them well, unless their mood is obvious, or they're angry, and knows little of what is considered polite or rude by most. Likewise, she feels that they see her as different...as Other to them as they are to her. They are a confusing unknown. She wants to learn the rules they have so she won't be punished for failing to please them, but she does not understand what friendship is, or to a very large degree what love is. And she hasn't the slightest clue what small talk is, or why it can be important at times.

So while she is very intelligent, and she learns quickly if she is interested in what she is learning, in some ways, she is very much a child.

Rei'sari was formerly Ari'sora, but after getting a fresh start in life and a new appearance from Vega, she changed her name to Rei'sari.
