Embracing an alien culture is hard, especially a barbaric one when you’ve no credentials for it. However the mortal born had accepted that it was simply unavoidable that violence would continue to come his way. Thus it was time for him to pick up a weapon and fight. Grumbling to himself the mortalborn made his way to the temple of Ethelynda, he wasn’t a huge fan of the immortals for the most part, though he didn’t dislike them either, they were a grey zone for him, however the temple had one thing he needed and that was a place to train in relative safety.
Coming upon the place Hwyn found himself awed in spite of himself, the temple was nothing to sneeze at, it’s titanic metal doors and snake motif was both intimidating and noble, a visage that… oddly enough made him feel relatively at ease, if not safe. Stepping into the place Hwyn frowned there were men and women milling about that all looked like they could eat him for breakfast without a second thought. Debating speaking up and asking for lessons he held his tongue, he was both too proud and too scared to ask for help. Slinking to where the sounds of combat could be heard the shy boy looked out over a courtyard filled with the grunts and groans of exertion. People who devoted themselves wholly to the art of war and to Ethelynda’s preaching’s of protection his reasons for wanting to learn to fight weren’t nearly so noble, but perhaps such a thing didn’t matter.
Making his way over to where the practice weapons were stored he came face to face with a very large man who eyed him quietly. “Well, ya here ta train or stare lass?” the man asked. Jumping at being talked to Hwyn looked him over trying to find composure.
“I-i-i… I’m here to train sir…”
“Well with what? Ya sure don’t look like you could pick up anything heavier than a pig sticker”
“I don’t know… I don’t know how to fight…”
“You don’t know how to fight?” the man roared half incredulous half impressed. “No wonder you look softer than a Scalvoran Scholar” Shaking his head the man looked over his stock of weapons before picking up what was effectively just a big stick. “Ere, this’s a staff, ain’t sharp, ain’t heavy but it can pack a wallop if ya learn how to swing it. Taking the Staff from the man Hwyn gripped it experimentally it was deffinetly light enough to wield but learning to do so would be a process. “go find yourself a corner and give it a few swings…. And don’t hurt yerself I ain’t got time ta be yer nanny”
“y-yessir..”
