Event The Sorrow of Love

Almund is a thriving township with a dark side. With houses made from the wooden bodies of decommissioned ships, there are many opportunities here, coupled with many dangers.

Kirei
Her request was information, and she asked a lot of it. The Immortal woman who had judged her harshly watched her and shook her head. Obviously, she was less than impressed with Kirei, and her chosen boon did nothing to change the Immortal's opinion. Vri simply listened to the words Kirei spoke, not speaking himself.

Tio
The Yludih asked for a boon which was both specific and very general and Vri's eyes regarded him with interest.

Toraj
It was when Toraj spoke that Vri really paid attention. He, and the two women who were much more solid and real at Toraj's words, seemed raptly attentive, in fact.

All
"So, it is true," Vri said, and both the women nodded. They looked at Toraj as they did and all three Immortals in the room gazed intently upon him. "There are unselfish mortals in the world. Are you satisfied now, my sisters?"

The twins both smiled at him and the one who had been speaking to Toraj beamed. "I told you, didn't I? He could have asked for anything." The one who stood, still, near Kirei responded. "But his choice would give him peace. That is not selfless."

"We did not argue that it would be selfless." Vri interjected, and the woman near Toraj pointed at Kirei and added, "plus, yours just saved a dog and left people die, then asked for information which was of interest to her, but no use or even help. You're just sore because I chose well."

"Very well." Vri said, and then they were no longer in the room they had been. Instead, they were back in the chaos of the Scalvoris Sapphire Inn.

Tio looked back and forth from the gathered Immortals to Toraj, feeling a little left out of the current conversation. It seemed like the guy was the man of the hour for wishing for something that wouldn't directly benefit him. Hold up, had this whole shenanigan been a test to see what they would choose if offered a favour from the literal incarnation of death? Had he failed it for choosing to think of himself? Well damn. Perhaps it was too much to hope that a chance to escape death would just fall into his hands like that?

"So... it that a no for the bonus life?" He asked Vri when the god didn't say anything. Why was he just staring at him like that? Oh spirits, he didn't know that Tio had thought his daughter looked hot did he? Was he going to fly into some stereotypical overprotective dad jealously and kill him?! Once again Tio took a nervous step backwards, and not-so-subtly looked around for anywhere he could run off to.

But thankfully there was no murder. The dark landscape around them faded away, returning Tio and the other two to the Scalvoris Sapphire Inn. Tio turned to look at Toraj and Kirei, then around to the chaos around them, then finally back at the table he'd been drinking at before. He scrunched his face up in thought for a moment, and then let out a sigh.

"Nope. Once again I have no idea what half of what just happened was about. I need another drink."

Fast Facts
Noticeable quirks your character can see when threading with Tio.

Bone Mask

Tio has a white bone mask permanently fused to his face. It has no features besides a pair of ram-like horns.

Terrible Shirt

Tio wears perhaps the most horribly ostentatious jacket on Idalos. It is magically enchanted to make him feel good as long as he wears it, but is so awful that most people can't help but cringe.

Skeletal Shadow

The shadow Tio casts is that of a skeleton. It looks pretty spooky, but doesn't really do anything special.

Cold Wind

A gentle breeze of slightly chilly wind clings to Tio, following him wherever he goes.

No Reflection

Tio has no reflection, nor do the clothes he wears.

Floats

Tio floats.

Kirei eyed the Immortals warily. She had the feeling that they were displeased with her, and that could be a very bad thing. Had it been the boon she had asked for? Perhaps living mortals simply weren't meant to know what happened to those who had died and been judged. As for the rest of the information she had asked for, was it really so wrong to want to know if she was being tested for something? If nothing else, knowing that she was being tested for something, even without knowing what the test was might affect the way she reacted to any given situation. Of course, that could have been the point...

The conversation between the Immortals made her feel uneasy. What they said, and what was not said directly, but had been implied...did they really think that she was selfish? Why? She had not asked to be allowed to live forever, or to be allowed to return to life if she did manage to get herself killed. Nor had she asked for the same effect for her loved ones so that she might continue to keep them with her longer. As for that dog that the Immortals seemed to feel was so unworthy of being saved...animals might not be as intelligent as people, but they did suffer too. Was it so wrong to try to end the suffering of a helpless animal...one who might have spread the fire further, causing more danger as it died in agony? Should she have let it die, and watched it burn to death when she could have saved it?

One of the twins said that she had let people die...who? The person she had been asked to choose death for? The people who were uninjured and able to escape the fire under their own power? Had she missed something she should have seen before all of this had happened? Was she really...selfish? Kirei couldn't just dismiss the accusation the way she might have if a mortal had made it. Not what the Immortals whose purpose it was to judge people had made the accusation. Selfish...

Kirei shuddered. Selfish was...something she was not going to think about right now. Not while in the presence of Immortals and strangers. But when she got home...yes. She would have a lot to think about when she got home.

The room faded around her, and she found herself back in the Sapphire Inn. Everything was in chaos. Tio said something about not understanding what had happened, and Kirei could only nod in agreement. He also mentioned needing another drink. While Kirei didn't disapprove of drinking, it wasn't something that she enjoyed doing herself, so she left him to it. Instead, Kirei stopped one of the waitresses she saw running by, and asked what she could do to help.

Toraj hadn't expected a positive reaction. He'd asked, or demanded, that an Immortal overturn a decision they had previously made. One that he thought was unfair, and had judged as such. He didn't necessarily claim that he, as a mortal, had any right to cast such judgement over the Immortal's actions, but... Would it actually bring him peace? The damage had been done, no matter Vri's decision with regards to his request, and he stood tense in anticipation of the Immortal's reply once his request had finally parted from his lips. The reaction caught him off-guard and it took him a few moments to register the fascination with which he was regarded from that point on, almost to the exclusion of his mortal compatriots. He barely understood what had happened and it showed as his brilliantly blue eyes widened in poorly veiled confusion, gaze snapping between those present in search of answers to the myriad of questions that popped up in his mind--unspoken as they were. His mind quickly trailed back to that moment, though, after their landing on Faldrass and the fight was over... finally over. It'd been a close call all around, and though Toraj's efforts had saved the life of one man, it wasn't enough to save Amaris. Whether that's becuase they'd succumbed to their wounds or simply because of Vri's judgement hadn't mattered much to Toraj in the moment, because the feeling of the dying Amaris slumping in his arms had overruled everything else. He'd asked their name, tried to pull them back to the present, but... It wasn't until much later that he'd managed to learn the name of the dead Councilor.

He'd blamed himself for it when it happened. Somewhere in his mind, he knew it hadn't been his choice in the first place, but the strange power that'd awakened in him to save the other man was not enough to also save Amaris. What good was a miracle, really, if it was so selective? Why hadn't it worked? Toraj had been prepared to cast his life on the line in Amaris' stead, but nothing had worked. Thinking back, it still caused the helpless frustration to burn inside him.

Unselfish? Perhaps.

Truthfully, Toraj had difficulty thinking of himself. Perhaps it was his fractured state that caused his apprehension in providing himself a boon of tangible worth, or it was the hollow feeling nestled somewhere amongst the few recovered memories he'd been cursed with. It was difficult to say whether the Immortals present were truly impressed with his choice, though he hadn't intended to entertain with it or asked for their amusement's sake. He wanted only what he'd asked for, in the end, and the delay as the Immortals studied him with interest caused his heart to sink in his chest, a cold pit forming in his stomach. Perhaps it'd been asking too much, still, to ask an Immortal to change their mind. He glanced to Kirei and Tio, trying to gauge their reactions, but received very little beyond silence and the same confusion he felt whirling about his thoughts.

And then it was over. Just like that, the Immortals vanished and the word faded back to where they'd been only moments before, standing in the inn. The stench of alcohol mixed with the scents of various foods and bodily odors washed against Toraj and caused him to choke momentarily, the man stumbling back to sit in the very same spot he'd landed in originally, taking a moment to just catch his breath whilst the others reeled in kind and proceeded to return to business as usual, making as little sense of the situation as he did. The pit in his stomach remained, chilling him to the core. Still, a small flame lit in the center of his chest---a faint flicker of hope. Did he really dare hope that Vri had granted his request? He clutched at his tunic, tightly.

Time would tell.

Kirei

Overview

I really enjoyed getting to write with Kirei in this thread. I love how very true to the pc you are and how very firm in her beliefs she is. It was great fun - thanks!

Points

XP: 20 (not for magic)

Renown: 10

Loot

In her pocket, Kirei finds a small piece of fabric. It has embroidered dogs over it and it looks, for all the world, like a handkerchief. She will discover that, while she is carrying it on her person, it protects her, and her clothes, from the rain. She will walk in from a downpour completely dry and warm. Yet, if someone throws a bucket of water over her, she'll get wet.
~~
Can Do Objective: Less than 600 words: Choose 2 bonus knowledge in any non-Domain magic skill used in this thread.
~~
Vri's Favour: You find a book. A small notebook which, when in a library or place which contains that information will show the answer to 1 question you write down, or all the information on 1 topic of your choice. The question or topic must be written in the book, by Kirei. Then, the answer appears written underneath it. The location must contain that knowledge, but it allows her to save hours on research. It may be used three times a season.

Knowledge

Animal Husbandry: Caring for a scared dog.
Animal Husbandry: Animals require care in a crisis, too.
Caregiving: Choosing appropriate babysitters.
Detection: Identifying a particular scent.
Discipline: Not giving in to your annoyance.
Interrogation: Questioning an Immortal.
Investigation: In a moment of crisis, survey the scene. It's worth to do.

Persuasion: Explaining your actions.

Tio

Overview

This boy and his relationship with the Immortals!! As always, great fun writing with you and I hope you enjoyed the thread too!!

Points

XP: 20 (not for magic)

Renown: 10

Loot

In his pocket, Tio finds a small snowglobe. The image in it seems to shift and change constantly. One time, he picks it up and it's a carousel. Next, it's a small hut. But, Tio finds that when he has it with him, food tastes better. Bad food tastes good, good food tastes exquisite.

Discipline: Don't freak out in front of the Immortal of Death.
Discipline: Recognising the sensation of power over life and death.

Toraj

Overview

I love Toraj and his sweetly innocent way of being. He's just so adorable. Totally adorable. And yet, he has a real sense of calm inner strength. Great fun - well done!

Points

XP: 20 (not for magic)

Renown: 10

Loot

You find a small silver charm, in the shape of a lightning bolt. It would go on a chain to be worn as a necklace, for example. Toraj discovers that, when he has it, he can see in the dark and bright, blinding light doesn't bother him. Handy, eh?
~
Can Do Objective: Less than 600 words: Choose 2 bonus knowledge in any non-Domain magic skill used in this thread.
~
Vri's Favour: Amaris is no longer in a state of neither alive nor dead. Toraj knows this, without a doubt.
~
Vri's Favour Pt ii: Toraj has a small silver ring on his finger. He can use that, once, to call upon Vri and ask a favour. The Immortal is not guaranteed to grant it, but hey.
