Storm Roc Stars [OPEN]

The Lightning Knights are hosting a gathering on the banks of Lake Lovalus to put on an acrobatic air show with their winged Storm Roc mounts. Chilled drinks and fruit are provided for those that attend by the Merchant's Guild. Local wineries and pubs will also be setting up tents where samples of their beverages will be handed out to those in attendance. It is sure to be an uplifting event.

Saun 14 Arc 718

”Nothing but clear skies,” Hanabi would think as she stretched her weary arms above her head and stared out over Lake Lovalus. It was quite the event that the Lightning Knights had set up and it looked like there were plenty of things to do. All of them would be pale in comparison to the main event put on by the storm rocs, but they would serve as suitable entertainment while the festivities got underway.

Hanabi would arrive about an hour before the event was supposed to start and would be wearing white robes which was typical of a novitiate Thunder Priestess. She’d be found walking from tent to tent and wafting in the tantalizing aromas of alcohol that almost begged her to come partake. She’d control herself for now though, she was a lightweight and wanted to actually remember her first storm roc show. ”This might be my only chance to see it, if the Priestesses send me elsewhere. I should enjoy every outing that I can!

Aside from booze, it looked like the city’s big wigs had gone all out and provided plenty of food for anyone to just come and take. Not being too well off financially, Hanabi was quick to grab a variety of fruits and shove them down her pockets so she’d have something to eat as she perused what else the event had to offer. ”I wonder if I’ll meet anyone I know here. It’d be nice to see a familiar face or two!

Re: Storm Roc Stars [OPEN]

It was way too hot for his liking, although the proximity to the Lake at least helped to ease a tiny bit of the heat. Rovy was mostly trying to hide in the shadows of the tents, picking up a cold fruit or another, even if they tasted almost like pure sugar in his mouth and had a rather strange consistency. Mia, on the other hand, was dancing from tent to tent, picking up every sample of beverage she could get her hands on. Usually, Rovy would ignore them completely, but today was hot enough for him to also have a cold drink on his hand, sipping on it occasionally - but mostly just holding the cold glass against his forehead until Mia snatched it from his hand and he had to find another - and just trying not to melt under the sun.

As much as he would like to say he would rather just be home, that wasn't exactly true. Any opportunity to see a Storm Roc in action was too good to pass, and to see a group of them doing acrobatics... Rovy would stand the worst Saun had to offer for this chance.

Which still didn't mean he was entirely comfortable with all this heat.

"Hey, Vy, do you think that woman put poison in this drink?" Mia asked, frowning down at the glass in her hand, then shaking it towards him and spilling half of its content.

"Why would she... Mia, look out!" but the warning came too late, as Mia walked straight into a short girl with soft pink hair, letting out a high pitched scream of surprise and almost falling to the ground. "By the Immortals, Mia, look where you are going." Rovy almost growled, low, trying to steady his sister. Mia blinked, twice, then looked between the pink haired girl and him, winked, and just walked away, probably to find another drink.

Rovy felt a strong desire to put his feet in front of her so she would trip. Instead, he took a deep breath, and turned to the girl, a mix of guilt and embarrassment written in his face.

"Sorry about that, I think my sister is already a bit thundered. Are you alright?"

"What the fuck do you mean it'll have to wait?"

When those words left Ryqet's mouth, the stranger took a small step back, hand on his dagger. "Let's not do anything rash, alright? We're working on finding him, we just need a little more time. You'll have your guy, the boss promises" he smiled politely, trying to stop the strange, scarred man from getting too close while also trying to keep the business deal going. If he lost another customer the boss would take his head off, and that was something he'd rather avoid admittedly. Yet Ryqet seemed unphased, unmoving. With cold purple eyes he stared straight through the man.

"If I don't have my information in the next three trials, I'll leave your guts on your bosses desk" his cold voice spoke, before gesturing for the man to leave. With a small nod he ran, leaving Ryqet alone in the alley. Gods, he hated Rharne. For a city full of piss-filled alleys, drunkards and party animals it was incredibly hard to get what he wanted, especially when it came to information about guards. You'd imagine the guards would be unpopular, perhaps even hated in a place like this. But it seemed they were anything but hated, which made his 'job' all the harder. With a small glare in the direction the man had gone, Ryqet started the walk home.

As he walked back to the boat five bits later, he saw the fuss that was going on. It was blistering levels of heat out, and with Chrien's mark coating his chest it was near impossible for him to walk around topless and cool down. If it wasn't for the guards he would, he could handle the mob of people. Most of them couldn't take him on, not after the time he spent in the prison. If the bastards in that shithole couldn't kill him, odds were nobody out here could either. Not unless they were a well-trained guard.

As he walked through the big event Ryqet kept his head forward, occasionally giving a glance to the side as a few people recognised him. It wasn't as if everyone knew him, but those that did knew him well. After all, he'd singlehandedly taken on guards, sent to rot in a prison that people never thought he'd leave and then somehow survived. Marked by Chrien, ex-convict and bad attitude. That tended to earn you a reputation in Rharne. Only problem with it was if a storm occurred, people often came knocking, or at least giving sharp glares. As much as it hadn't been him, however, if he ever learned how to make storms appear - he'd be sure to wash them and their family out to the depths. With a frustrated sigh, the man lit a cigarette in his mouth, filled with tobacco.

While he walked, his eyes fell to a pink girl colliding with another stranger - a priestess. Part of Ryqet felt sick at the sight, the other felt a glimmer of mischief. Perhaps he could have fun with whoever the pink haired girl was. Maybe the man apologising on his sister's behalf would be some fun too. Blowing out a small puff of smoke, the man took a step towards the two, primarily looking at the priestess with a strange, cold expression in his purple eyes. A mix of spite and amusement, though he did his best to hide it.

"I'm sure she'll survive. She is a priestess, after all. They're trained to be tougher than the rest of us."

High above the celebrations there were seven glittering silver shapes seated astride seven massive amber and indigo Storm Rocs. The birds sported huge wingspans, casting long shadows across the ground below. They all moved in perfect unison as the avians and their riders swooped through a steep dive before their steeds automatically leveled off and began peeling to the left in an acrobatic tumbling maneuver.

The Storm Rocs were loving this, getting to stretch their wings and engage in some serious maneuvers. This was less about entertaining the crowds below and more about pushing the animals through their paces. True it was a performance that they had rehearsed several times but these death defying feats were training for a day when they would be flying for their lives rather than entertaining the crowds below.

The giant raptors fanned out their wings as they swooped low over the cheering people, one of the smaller birds screeching with joy at the attention just before floundering slightly as if it had been hit by something. The younger bird flapped hastily and haphazardly; trying to regain it’s balance, shaking it’s head dizzily. The rider was a young knight with a short blue cloak. Yanking on the saddle to try and stay seated he attempted to shift his weight on the bird to help right it but it was already too late.

It happened so fast.

A blur of golden and indigo striped feathers came blazing past Hanabi, Rovy and Ryqet, knocking them back and to the ground in a swirl of dust. The rider could be heard screaming in panic just as he and his mount slammed into the ground amid the celebration. People screamed, horrified at what they had just seen. The downed Storm Rock shuddered, it’s left wing bent in an unnatural direction and blood dripped from it’s chest where it had taken the brunt of the crash. Many people would see the wounds and the utterly destroyed wing but few would notice the small dart embedded in the bird’s neck. It had a bright white fletching that almost blended in with the mottled feathers but it stuck out like a sore thumb if one looked close enough.

The rider had been thrown some twenty feet and was unconscious as nearby Thunder Priestess Healers rushed over to him. The downed bird screeched pitifully, it’s lungs moving its body up and down in quick succession as panic and pain racked it’s form. Perhaps it was the crash that finally killed the creature or perhaps it was whatever drug had been dabbed on the end of that dart, but within a few trills the bird was dead as a doornail. It’s golden eyes were rolled back and the bleeding had begun to slow. The other performers were circling worriedly overhead, unsure of what had happened.

Had a Lightning Knight and his Storm Roc just been intentionally attacked?

Re: Storm Roc Stars [OPEN]

Before the pink haired girl could say anything, a man placed himself by their side. Rovy looked at him, but it seemed like the stranger was more interested in glaring at the girl - priestess - than at acknowledging his presence. Which was a good thing, actually, because Rovy couldn't help but purse his lips in a tiny bit of disgust at the smell of tobacco coming from the man's cigarette. He never understood what it was that people found so compelling about that smelly plant.

What worried him most was the expression on the man's face, as he looked at the priestess. It wasn't a dangerous look, or at least it didn't seem to be, but it was awfully close to some the looks he would get as soon as people noticed his Avriel heritage, and it did make him uncomfortable.

"The fact that she'll survive is hardly the point of an apology." Rovy crossed his arms, trying to dispel some of the tension building up on his shoulders, pushing the thoughts away from his mind.

And then, a gold and indigo blur passed by them, and Rovy didn't really have time to register anything before he was knocked to the ground, wincing at the odd angle in which he fell on his hand. Cursing under his breath, he twisted his wrist, the movement causing a sharp pain to run through his arm. It ended quickly, though, to which Rovy gave out a sigh of relief before quickly getting up again.

He turned his eyes towards the huge bird that had crashed in front of them, feeling a soft pang of sympathy and sadness at the sight of the twisted wing. Careful not to get in the way of the Storm Roc's powerful talons, Rovy tried to gently push the feather's in the bird's chest to the side, catching a glance at the wounds, fingers getting slowly soaked in blood. There were already a group of people around the bird's rider, and Rovy could do nothing for him, anyway.

And by the way the bird was screeching and racking in panic, there wasn't much he could do for them, either. Something confirmed very soon as the bird grew still and just stopped moving.

Rovy straightened, running a hand over his hair, not really caring about the blood still in his fingers, and tried to push the sadness away. Death never really sat well with him.

"Are you alright?" he asked, not really thinking about the words before they had already left his mouth, and by then, the question was already asked, so trying to take it back wouldn't do anything. He forced his eyes away from the bird, turning toward the other man, who seemed to have been knocked over by the bird as well. The priestess was nowhere to be seen, probably having gone to help the fallen knight.
