New Feature: Revision History!!

Hello!

We've just installed a new extension to the forum - this allows you to see (for your own posts only) the "Revision History" of a post in the IC forums. Once you have edited a post (any edit made after this morning when the extension was enabled) that post will have a new button on the top right.

Image

This allows you to see the "Revision History" for the post in question. So, if you've ever hit "edit" instead of "reply with quote" and lost a post that way - it will show you the original post. You can compare revisions and restore old ones, or delete revisions. We can set how long it stores these revisions for, and I think at the moment we're thinking that we'll make it 20 or 30 days, but that's still being discussed.

Hopefully, this is a useful QoL improvement for all - and it means that you can no longer accidently lose something because you've saved over it!

Please note - this does not work in the majority of OOC forums. It DOES work in the Character Sheet forum. If there are any OOC forums where you think it would be particularly useful, reach out and let one of us know.

Thankee!

Hello Everyone,

As we are all fellow roleplayers and writers writing in a fantasy writing and roleplaying forum, you probably know of the phenomenon known as fan fiction. We've decided, in tandem with the release of the Writing Skill we'll be holding a contest for any character that decides to write fan fiction in character, that is set in any other universe other than Idalos. This can be another rpg, your favorite intellectual property, or just something you make up off the cuff.

All submissions should be marked in the review request. The formal contest details can be found here

All those who succeed in writing a submission will be granted the Dragon Effigy of Gaby, the Rabbit dragon.

Solving Issues With Mobile Users!

Hello everyone!

So - we believe that we have solved (or actually, found the solution to) the issue with mobile users not being able to access the site effectively.

Where we have been using "Width: 500px", for example, we simply need to change that to "max-width: 500px"

It will make ZERO difference to what you see on your screen if you're on a wide monitor - but it will make it scaleable for mobile users.

Tech Guy is going to run a script over the next few days which will change all the coding on the site to that (a sort of "find and replace" for width to max-width). This will replace literally every post which uses the width command.

Then we will have that script run daily to change new posts if we forget - but it would REALLY help if we can all just change to that now if you happen to be writing a new code from scratch. All your templates etc will get changed.

I will edit the BBCode and Boxcode guide in the next day or two!

Thankee! And massive thanks to Tech Guy!

Hello people,

Slight edit to the Well-Craft ability of Transmutation. We apparently forgot to update it when the new Well write-up and Ensorcelling hit the Wiki. It's been changed from this:
A uniquely powerful aspect of master Transmutation and only available to the caster who understands the nature of ether, a Transmuter can focus the ether in their own body and the area around them to consolidate into a well. Forgoing the need to harvest wells from Fractures or Flaying (except for the truly exceptional well types) the Transmuter is able to form their own at the expense of exhaustion and overstepping. The most common wells are easiest made and so long as only one or two are created per few trials, a mage does not risk overstepping. For Imedyte, only one can be created every four trials and minor overstepping will always result. A mage can create the Imedyte variants like Ashyte and Umadyte at the upper limits of this ability (So long as they have the Knowledges of studying the wells before), but will always invite moderate to severe overstepping as a result. Most mages in need of wells for conduits or other creations accept this risk in order to minimize the abhorrence of Flaying or the danger and time of questing for Fractures.
To the following:
A uniquely powerful aspect of master Transmutation and only available to the caster who understands the nature of ether, a Transmuter can focus the ether in their own body and the area around them to consolidate into a well. Forgoing the need to harvest wells from Fractures or Flaying (except for the truly exceptional well types) the Transmuter is able to form their own at the expense of exhaustion and overstepping. The wells that can be crafted through this method and the exhaustion involved depend very much upon the Class of the well in question. Class 1 purite wells can be created once or twice every few trials with little risk of exhaustion or overstepping, so long as the pace of once or twice per few trials is adhered to. Class 2 and upwards can be created every four trials with at least minor overstepping always resulting. A mage cannot create any variants other than purite, the artificial well. However, with the use of ensorcelling, purite can be combined with natural wells in order to add to the potency of their native capabilities. Most mages in need of wells for conduits or other creations accept this risk in order to minimize the abhorrence of Flaying or the danger and time of questing for Fractures.
Thanks! If there are any questions about this change, please direct them to the Q&A forum.

Solving Issues With Mobile Users!

Hello everyone!

Just an FYI - our Guide to BB Code and Boxcode Basics has been updated to include the information on max-width.

Tech Guy will run the script which makes that change soon - you are welcome (of course) to change your posts before that, but his script will do it all for you. Apologies to those who have moved to % and now will move back to px, we didn't know there'd be a fix which would allow TG to write a site-wide script.

After TG has run the script - every post on site will change to max-width. This will include your templates etc. So, this should clear up the mobile issue.

Thanks to all - and massive thanks to Tech Guy for awesomeness.

Re: News & New Features!

Solving Issues With Mobile Users!

Hello everyone!

Tech Guy has run the script - this has now taken effect. It impacts all posts and all post elements wrapped in "code" tags. So if previously you had the code for your boxcode below that boxcode - that's been changed too!

The only issue which is less than ideal is that, for mobile users, where a boxcode has an image as the background (not as an image inside the boxcode) and there's a forced margin, the only way to scale it that we can find (and I promise - we looked!) is that the text now appears over the background image. That is not ideal, but it is the only fix we could find.

I'm going to be updating the BB code to include how to do scalable margins, but effectively its

margin: max (60px);

for a margin of 60px at the maximum. It does to margins what max-width does to width, basically.

Thanks all!

Re: News & New Features!

A Few Updates / Reminders!

Hello everyone!

As per this thread we've dealt with most of the bugs which happened due to upgrade.

Today, we've added a frame around the "RPG Forum Index" at the top to show that it is something to hover your mouse over to access the "Breadcrumb Menu". Thanks to Dandelion for PMing me and pointing out that the same breadcrumb menu is available at the very bottom of the page, too - bottom right, "Jump To" button.

As per this discussion - the forums are going to be moved around / reshuffled on the 1st of new cycle. Please put any comments in there, this is open to discussion.

There's also going to be a working group looking at ghosts, following this discussion - if you'd like to be involved, please post in there. If you'd like to have some say in how ghosts work, that's the place to do it.

And finally - I am working on a "User Guide to ST" - there's a link to it in my signature. I'd appreciate feedback on it - either in the thread or via PM. My plan is to also add a "User Guides" forum in the reshuffle. Volunteer Staff are currently voting on the following three things:
current vote wrote: 1. In the forum reshuffle on 1st new season (see this discussion if you don't know what I mean viewtopic.php?t=29103 ) - I propose we add a forum to the site.

Forum Name: Guides

2. Forum Content:
All Guides that we have on the forum
An index of all guides with links to the wiki ones.

3. I think it should also have the opportunity for player submitted guides (eg: A guide to writing X skill, A guide to writing combat, etc) - which can be written by players but would go through an approval process.

Depending on how that vote goes (we work on majority rule) - it'll happen 1st new cycle. I'll keep you informed.

Hope all are doing well!

Pegs.

Re: News & New Features!

Wiki For Mobile Users

Hello everyone!

Today, Tech Guy has fixed an issue with tables on the Wiki, which meant they didn't work well on mobiles. If you can't see it, you will in the next few hours as cache clears.

He's also going to have a look at having a "toggle menu on / off" for mobile users specifically, so that you don't have to scroll past the menu every time.

Padding on the Wiki has also been fixed to make it more user-friendly and less "empty space" :D
