"The pleasure is mine" Rey'na smiled, giving a small nod to the older woman as she made her way, having asked the young Element for directions. With a friendly smile on her face, Rey glanced back to Archibald, wondering what was happening with him. Though they were partners on this mission, it was clear that he was primarily here to keep an eye on Rey'na and see how she could do. So far, it seemed she was doing alright. But offering directions to lost passerby's wouldn't be enough, and the girl knew it. After all, she was here to learn a magic, to learn to protect as many people as she could. Nothing but that mattered.
"Is there anywhere we need to specifically look out for? Last time I was around here we had some reports of assault going on" Rey admitted, remembering her time with Sephira in this area of the town. While the situation had been tense, and both had prevented what could have been an incredibly unpleasant incident, the girl was glad to have experienced it. It showed her exactly what she was helping prevent in Scalvoris, and gave her a potential friend along the way.
"Nothing particularly, just keep your eyes open and do your best" the man ordered, with both a sharp look and a warm smile, something he had an unnatural talent for. Yet Rey kept her polite smile and glanced around the street, looking as young and enthusiastic as she was. While it wasn't an easy situation by any stretch, the girl had to make do with what she could. This was the cost of the path she intended to choose, the road she wanted to take. If this was what it took to be able to protect people, so be it.
As if on queue, a small girl came over to Rey'na, lost from her mother. With a comforting smile, Rey knelt down as the young child explained her situation. "Don't worry, I'll help you find her. Let's walk through the town and see if you can spot her" she offered, holding out her hand to the girl before starting to walk. Behind her, though she couldn't see it, a small smile spread across Achibalds face - one of either pride or amusement. Not even he was sure which.
As the young girl held on to Rey'na's hand, Rey asked her what her mother looked like. She described her, though it was fairly vague. Long brown hair, deep green eyes and thin didn't help the Element much. But it was all she had to work with, and admittedly it wouldn't matter much so long as the daughter would recognize her own mother - which she almost certainly would. Or so Rey'na would hope, at least. It would take a lot of extra work if she didn't.
"There she is!" the girl called out excitedly, a worried human woman looking over at the call. Immediately she ran over, pulling her daughter in to a hug as Rey let go of the young girls hand. With a heavy hug, the two embraced, the mother clearly concerned that something bad had happened to the young girl in her arms. After their short hug, the woman stood up and looked to Rey'na, composing herself again.
"Thank you, both of you" she smiled at the pair. But a shake of Archibalds head just left the woman confused. "There was no 'both of us' here, I just followed my partner along. It was her that helped your daughter out, it's her that deserves the thanks for it" he smiled genuinely to Rey'na, causing a small blush to spread across her cheeks. It wasn't as if the man was rude to her in any way, or mean at all. But to hear him, her teacher, compliment her so blatantly - it was nice.
After thanks were given to Rey'na, the two made their way back to their post, silence filling the air between them. Rey wanted to ask him questions, to talk to him, and it wasn't as if she felt like she couldn't. But something about it felt strange to her, with the relationship they had. It was in no way a bad reflection on him, the man was kind and nice. But from him she was learning a great power, one that could change more lives than just her own. It wasn't a feeling she was used to, not by any stretch. As she mustered the confidence to speak, she heard a cry from up ahead.
Outside the tavern, ahead of the two, were a pair of men stood over another man, this time kneeling on the ground and shielding himself away. Behind the kneeling figure was a woman, the one that had made the cry, shouting and telling the men to stop. Yet while Rey'na immediately ran forward, readying her spear as she realized one man was armed, Archibald kept to his leisurely pace. After all, this was Rey'na's job to handle, and he wanted to see exactly how well she would do. If needs be, he'd intervene - but only then and not a moment sooner.
As one of the men went to kick, Rey shouted across at them, stopping and holding her spear at her side in one hand. "Hey! That's enough" she called, both men turning back to look at her. For a trill they glanced from her to one another, then the man doing the kicking burst out in laughter. "Go back to your brothel, whore. You'd handle those spears better than that one."
After his taunt, Rey paused, trying to calm herself down. After all, she was supposed to act as the judge for Pier and Pre, and as worthy as this man seemed to be of death - there was always another way. But her time to calm down was interrupted with another cry from the woman ahead, as another kick planted itself in to her partners stomach. Almost instinctively, Rey'na snapped, taking the step forward she needed to be in striking range and swinging.
While the girl wasn't amazing with a spear, or even good with one, it wasn't hard for her to swing it around and hit the man with the shaft of the spear rather than the blade. With a loud thud, the metal handle smacked in to the back of the mans head, knocking him flat to the floor. As the other grabbed for a weapon, it gave Rey time to turn the spear and face it towards the man, the blade inches away from him. "I said that's enough. Drop the dagger."
As the man raised the dagger over his head, he quickly grabbed the shaft of the spear and pushed it aside, before lunging for the girl with his knife. Taking a small, panicked step back, Rey swung her spear. While it didn't have much force to it, the blade slashed in to the mans arm, causing a moderately deep would - and more important taking out the arm that the man held the dagger with. Gripping his bleeding arm, the attacker dropped to the floor and let out a small cry of pain. With a heavy breath, Rey lowered the weapon in front of her, before a hand placed itself on her shoulder.
"Now they are at your mercy. What do you want to do with them?" Archibald asked, curious to what the girl would say. In truth, he had a guess as to what it was. If she wanted the men dead then she would have already killed them, but all of her blows were restrained and just intended to take them down. While she was evidently sloppy with the spear, she had at least managed that.
"We take them in to custody and they pay for their crimes in a court room, like everyone else...if that's alright with you" she added to the end, making sure not to take too much charge around Archibald. While she was supposed to work as best she could independently Rey had no intention of taking charge on these missions, or giving any orders to the man that was her superior. "Very well, I'll take them in and get this one a medic. You take care of those two" the man nodded, before grabbing the two men and escorting them, neither willing to fight back after what had just happened.
"Are you alright?" Rey asked, kneeling down beside the man. As he brought himself up to his feet, the man gave Rey a small nod of thanks, blood dripping down his nose. Quickly, his partner came to his aid, helping him up with a small, nervous smile to Rey'na. "Come on, we'll find you both a healer. You'll be fine."
As Rey helped the man and woman, she let herself feel comfortable now that she wasn't being watched - or so she thought. Yet from afar, having handed the criminals over to two other guards, Archibald watched and smiled. While he had a cold demeanor at times, and spoke his mind at all times to the girl, his primary intention was to make sure she was as good as he felt she was. To ensure that if he were to initiate her in to such a powerful force, she would put it to the same good use she always swore to.
Then as she walked to the healer, the man made his back to their position, waiting for the girl - a confident smirk on his face.
