The others were in the middle of introducing themselves just as the first Notes of Death came echoing back to the mage. They struck her like the peals of a great bell, ringing out across the great expanse of the glacier. Sephira flinched, she hadn’t expected such a response, she could feel the death as it happened. The sudden loss of life struck her almost like a physical blow to the point that her breathing became heavier and almost labored.
“There are people dying on this glacier.” She uttered firmly just as she finished opening her eyes and detaching from the Frequencies.
“Many people.”
Snapping out of her trace-like state the mage looked up at her team. “Those that can fight, be ready for combat. I’m beginning to suspect that it may be unavoidable.”
She nodded at Rynata, “Keep us on track and moving to the west, be ready for anything.”
With directions given Sephira took a moment to jot down a few words in the Echo Scroll she had been given by the Elements.
‘I have sensed the presence of death here. We are moving west to investigate. ‘
The mage didn’t explain how she had sensed the presence of death and simply assumed that the Elements receiving her message would be aware of her skill set.
Sephira wouldbrandish her saber and gesture for the team to move forward.
Within half a break they had found the first tracks. Granted it was a trail of charred “fabric” left in the snow. At least they had a baseline of evidence that could provide them with a path forward. Shortly after locating the shreds of “fabric” the team stumbled upon the body and Sephira almost instantly connected itto the ringing Notes of Death that she had sensed earlier.
It was a slave, there was little doubt of that with the presence of so many brands on his body. There were cuts the size of abanana dotting his body that had clearly led to his death. In the same moment the mage realized that they had not been following a trail of fabric but of burned skin that had fallen off from the trek over the ice. The poor man....someone had clearly been thebane of his existence.
The team split up to make a brief investigation of the scene , Hookor examining the body, Rey’na looked for tracks and clues in the immediate area; all while Rynawa studied the scar and the place where the man had died.
Sephira knelt down in the midst of everyone and studied the bird shaped marking on his chest thoroughly. Feeding a small amount of ether into her Attunment Spark she focused intently on the body and most importantly on the marking. Perhaps she could get a read on the person who had made it, or on why it was done. Any clue could be of vital importance.
With that done she took a moment to note down their discovery in the Echo Scroll.
‘The body of a slave has been found half a break west of our initial position. I believe he was made to walk over the ice before being slain. ‘
The Element came to her feet, staring out across the glacier to the west. “Report back your findings everyone, we need to keep moving.”
