The Prison Mine of Egilrun, housing the most dangerous of Scalvoris' criminals

The shallow bay Egilrun is situated upon is used, these trials, for crafts and crafting. From boatmakers to weaponsmiths, glassblowers to metalworkers, the sound of hammers and saws can be heard almost every break of the trial, with crews working in shifts to produce the beautiful craftsmanship which they might, one trial, become famous for.

Slags Deep

Please note: As of Rebirth 720, Slags Deep closed it's doors. What is going on in there is not known, but please see this post for some explanation. This location is closed. The Warden disappeared at that time and may not be played.
Slags Deep

Just north of Egilrun stands one of the tallest summits of the Scalvoris Mountains, Shatter Peak. It is roughly eight breaks of travel from the Egilrun gate by beast pulled wagon. in the southern face of the mountain, a massive fortress looms over all who lay eyes upon the peak. This fortress is Slags Deep, Scalvoris' maximum security prison and most productive mine. It not only produces much of the high silica sand for Egilrun's glassmaking economy, but much of the metals and gemstones for Scalvoris in general. Slags Deep is not owned by the Scalvoris government, but rather owned by the current Warden. It is a private company that benefits greatly from the prison labor, with a flawless record for security. It was founded in 455 by a mercenary from Yaralon whose company specialized in the capture and detainment of enemy forces.

The surface fortress is massive, and employs many of the free citizens of Egilrun, in administrative, teamster, and other roles. Because of this job security, more than fair pay, and the massive amount of jobs to run a mine and prison this size, many in Egilrun rely upon Slags Deep and view it very favorably. Just the threat of Slags Deep is often enough to make criminals confess to anything. The surface fortress can be accessed by a stone bridge that passes over a deep ravine, at the bottom of which is a raging river that is nearly always at freezing levels. This is the most common method of access, and wagons of prisoners, employees, and supplies are often seen heading into the mines. Leaving the mines are the wagons containing the various sand, ores, and gemstones acquired within, as well as employees leaving shift. More rarely used for entrance is the roof of Slags Deep, only used when a dangerous prisoner or esteemed visitor must be flown in. Armed guards are stationed along the bridge, as well as on every roof, no matter the weather or time of trial.

There are seven thick gates, made of differing substances, and all incredibly strong. Despite being inconvenient to those coming and going through them, no two subsequent gates are ever unlocked nor opened at the same exact time. The Warden is particularly proud of this bit of security, though he is proud of all of it. Once through the seven gates, the hall opens up into a massive entryway. This is the Main Hall, and it is one of the most finely adorned places in all of Scalvoris. The floor is of the finest polished Syfangar Marble, the walls, the strongest black granite. The front desk is staffed by beautiful men and women in ornate armor that serve as both clerks and guards, accompanied by more guards at every entrance. The front desk directs all traffic, they see all, they know all. If someone arrives that is unknown, they are detained and questioned for a minimum of twenty-four breaks, regardless of status. These Overseers direct deliveries to the appropriate places, record employee arrivals and departures, distribute wages, purchases, and record all paperwork.

The Main Hall has eight large, gated archways, three on the left hand wall, three on the right hand wall, and two on either side of the long desk. These gates lead to an organized labyrinth of more gates, hallways, and rooms. Several of these gates are chained, in addition to the locks that require employees to have keys to get through. These chains are rotated around at random, by a different employee, twice a day. This forces employees to navigate the maze in order to reach their destinations, and the senior employees seem to be able to navigate these labyrinths without delay. When asked how they do it, they simply say instinct and experience. For newcomers or visitors, it is usually frustrating to the nth degree and often appears to be unnecessarily excessive.

The labyrinth leads to offices, warehousing and storage space, and of course, down to the mines themselves, where only prisoners and guards go. A new prisoner is brought forth before the Overseers, told the amount of time they must serve, and then relieved of all belongings right then and there. The belongings are then stored in a wooden crate, with the prisoner's name engraved upon it, and taken back to the warehouse where such things are kept. The prisoner is then given a woolen robe, a pickaxe, and a shovel, and led by several guards through the labyrinth to the mines. Once more, the prisoner is escorted through seven heavy gates, and much like the entrance, subsequent gates are never unlocked nor opened simultaneously.

Upon clearing the first gates, they are greeted by the Junior Warden, who repeats the amount of time they must serve, but also tells them an amount of gold nels that they can earn to receive their freedom. This is often directly tied to the crimes the prisoner committed, not the time demanded be served. It is explained to the prisoner that all minerals mined by the prisoner will reduce this tab, and once it reaches zero, they are released. If the time demanded they serve passes before the tab is paid off, they are released. But if they are returned, the difference is added onto the new tab. They are then led down a long, dark tunnel toward the first level.

Age: Cylus 12, 670
Title: The Warden of Slags Deep
Skills: Moderator Secret :D
Other Information: The Warden is a proud man. Proud of his accomplishments at Slags Deep. Proud of the impeccable security of the facility. He earned his way up through the guard, eventually becoming the Junior Warden of The Beneath, and later, The Warden. He's stern but fair with his employees, and none have ever seen him lose his temper. He rarely leaves Slags Deep, for his home is the Warden's Mansion atop the mountain. But when he does leave, it is often to attend events in the various towns and villages of Scalvoris, particularly if they involve dancing or charity. While at such functions, he's pleasant and cordial, and is a sharp dressed man, and a fabulous dancer. He drinks, but only in moderation. He lives alone in his mansion, and no one seems to know anything about him.
