Appearance: Standing at 5’9” Ellinor is taller than people expect her to be. She has grey-blue eyes, skin that appears to be kissed by the sun and straight brunette hair that comes down to just below her shoulders and that she usually wears tied back into a ponytail so that it does not get in her way. Her face is covered with numerous tiny freckles and possesses high cheekbones and full lips that are often curved into a mischievous smile. Ellinor’s body is wiry and toned due to years spent on the road, travelling from one place to the next. There are calluses on her hands from working and fighting, and the soles of her feet are hard because she is barefoot whenever it is possible. She favours trousers and close-fitting clothes when she works or engages in physically intensive activities, but will occasionally slip into a pretty dress in the evening.
Personality: Ellinor possesses a lot of questionable character traits. She is loud. She is eccentric. She is direct. She is rude. She is stubborn. She lies. She drinks. She steals. She gambles. She often ignores all the little rules of human interaction on purpose because etiquette is for those people. She is also extremely dedicated and driven though and will stop at nothing to reach her goals. She hardly ever cries or wallows in self-pity. When she is hurt, she simply bandages her wounds and gets up again. In the place where she grew up sitting there and pitying yourself usually gets you killed, and Ellinor doesn’t intend to die for a long time.
History: Ellinor is a bastard. Her mother was a waitress in one of the numerous taverns in Andaris’ Lowton district, and her father was … well, her mother always claimed that he was a noble lord with eyes as blue as the sky and golden hair who had come to Lowtown to conduct some sort of secret business. She insisted that he would return one trial and take the two of them with him.
In truth Ellinor’s father was probably just another drunkard who wanted to have a bit of fun, and anyway, Ellinor does not care about a mysterious man who was never there. She is more interested in the present – which is the life of a thief, con artist and occasional relic hunter in her case.
Ellinor never wanted to follow in her mother’s footsteps, you see. She wanted to get away from this life full of cheap liquor, cigarettes and broken dreams. When your mother works in a rundown tavern, when your marriage prospects are less than zero and you are not a genius with a chance at a scholarship from a prestigious university, improving your lot in life is most easily accomplished by taking things that don’t belong to you.
Her first few thefts were not met with a lot of success due to her lack of experience. She nearly ended up in prison a couple of times, but she learned – in no small part due to the help of the people that she met on the streets of Lowtown: Three-Finger Joe, Fox, Lilian and Kaia. They eventually became friends, formed their own gang and operated out of a former warehouse.
One trial, it must have been in early 714, a mysterious man contacted them. He wanted them to steal a crystal tiara from a noble lady from House Andaris, and he was willing to give them 10.000 golden nels. It went wrong, despite seasons of careful planning. The man refused to pay them, another party turned out to be involved, and in the end they were betrayed to the guards.
Three-Finger Joe died, Fox ended up in prison, Kaia and Lilian simply disappeared, and Ellinor … well, she ran, as fast and as far away as she could because she was wanted by three different groups now. She went from Viden to Ne’haer and then to Etzos and Scalvoris. She tried to be an upstanding member of society for a while in order not to attract any attention and worked for a transport company. She was good at moving things. It was what she had been doing for arcs.
It turned out that being an upstanding member of society doesn’t pay very well though, and besides, nobody had tried to kill her in a while, so she eventually went back to climbing through windows, picking locks, stealing things and lying her way to a better life – just as an old acquaintance, Malik, the Merchant of Yaralon, unexpectedly showed up and gave her a book that was full of mysterious symbols for safekeeping.
