Gangui leaned back in his chair and considered these words. Lesser men would have accepted his offer readily, even if it was a lie, but this man didn’t. Mincing his words to get out of the sellswords exact demands. He smiled under the moustache deciding he would kill this thief even if he didn’t have the moral superiority under the law with the claim of a broken vow. He had given Toan a chance to properly parley multiple times and he spat in his face. No problems. He would continue the negotiation now, releasing a little bit more information. He wanted to play games did he?
“Alright, good enough for now,” Gangui rolled onto the next point without a second breath, “The necklace was confiscated by the state several trials ago. It was taken off a woman who was mistaken to be an Immortal thumper. That has all been cleared up now,” He made a cutting motion with his hand, “But in the chaos of the situation, the beloved pendant was shipped up the Southride with all the other loot and taxes to the city proper. That’s all I know. It’s presumably in the Citadel, I would say, but who knows? I don’t know where they divvy the State’s wealth,”
“Shouldn’t be too hard,” Toan added into the conversation, “ask the beggars and street ears and they’ll know the right people. Everybody talks Gangui you just gotta pay the right person that listens.” Toan reasoned with a serious glint in his eye.
Gangui motioned to his own body, referencing his armor and stature, “I am no scoundrel. They know me around here for I’ve fought in the fields. I cannot do this, lest I fail horribly, so this is why I have to defer the mission to you, someone with a specialized knowledge. If I had the power and an army to back me,” One day, he thought, ”I would have seized it myself!”
Respectively Toan nodded and looked to consider the levity of the job, intel gathering as well as entering where he wasn’t allowed; all for the sake of this pendant that Gangui sought out. “Very well,” He came to agree with a sharp look in his eyes, “you’ve got a means of getting it back then. Keep your end of the bargain and I’ll see to it this trinket of your’s is returned.”
“Great!” He exclaimed, relieved that the rogue was finally playing ball, “Now for the important part,” His eyes narrowed, “What’s your price?” At that question Toan leaned back and brushed his forehead, the fingers of his hand ran through his hair as he thought heavily on it. His spare hand counted a few digits while he quietly mumbled to himself for a few moments. “The information, the set up, the initiative of the job… I’d say a a nice sum of three thousand gold coins would well cover the expenses.”
Gangui’s face fell at the quote. It was outrageous to say the least. He covered his face with two gauntleted hands and rubbed hard. What a mess honor was? He was going to have to fight some brutal battles for this one. Ellen’wyn better have been worth it. Finally, he threw back a retort, a single number, “Fifteen hundred.”
