[Augiery] Link Map

Home to Audrae and the race of Naerikk, Augiery is a densely populated city that places a strong focus on sexist ideals. Women are free within the city where they preside over the male slave population. Only a small glimmer of hope provided to those that battle in the arena seems to keep the peace.

The Anthelmitzal Coliseum

Credit: Nymph
[/anchor]
On the first battle of the first Trial of Potenzia, Odessa stood before thousands of Augierians and hundreds of Txerriak. She cast her hands open wide to reveal her battle armor. She never attended a fight dressed in her finest. "Ultimately, you are all dead men," Odessa addressed the slaves that stood before her in the center of the arena. Even with the weight of the shackles, the glimmer of hope still shone in their eye. One she hoped would burn for eternity so that they would realize just how hopeless their lives truly were. "Sadly we cannot choose how, but we can decide how we meet that end in order that you are remembered as men."

The Anthelmitzal Coliseum has since echoed the cheers of women and the rage-filled cries of men as they painted the sand with the blood of friends and rivals alike. This arena has stood for many arcs, having been carved by generations of Augerian women before Odessa came to power. It stood, decaying, until Odessa found use for it. It had been determined that happy slaves meant hard-working slaves. The Txerriak needed to have hope that there was a life beyond the chains. The promise of freedom was worth its weight in gold; gold that filled Aurelia's pockets through the swindlers and degenerates that ran her gambling rings. The stone arena is built directly into a great stone column much like the Hive. The room is widest at the top of seating and tapers quickly as it continues upward. Above the final row of seats, several arched windows were carved to allow air flow. Beyond that, the stone remains untouched.

The arena itself is large, measuring approximately 65 meters in diameter. A perfect circle, there are 8 points that encompass the arena. At 7 of the 8 points stand a statue of each of the current Vice Queens. The 8th point is marked by the entrance and the stairs that descend towards the arena. Below the stairs is the entrance to the rooms where slaves are housed. Fighters will enter the arena from this location. Slaves that are spectates are housed in the cages across from the slave entrance. Mirroring the entrance is Odessa's statue. The statue's eyes were fixed with rubies, a red glare directly on the center of the arena. The stone sword in her hands is pointed directly down towards the cages beneath her. Like each statue of her sisters, a throne sits at the base of this figure where Odessa will personally attend the festivities. Aurelia, Casia, and Runash line the arena to Odessa's right in that order. Odessa's left is lined by Tanvi, Lomela, and Sanja. It is not common for Runash and Sanja to attend these events; thus, they are given the distanced position from the lead Vice Queen. Their hands are filled with items that reflect their sectors and their eyes are gems in their favored colors.
"What we do in life echoes in eternity. Make your eternity scream with your success."

OOC Information

This location is open year round for those that wish to walk the empty seats and explore the arena. There are no NPCs stationed at times that the coliseum is not used. There is no requirement for moderation unless requested.

At times that the arena is open for the Trial of Potentzia, free access is no longer permitted. Admission is required and access to the slave quarters is prohibited. During times of activity, large moderated threads will be set-up to guide the general atmosphere. Individual threads will be established for fighting pairs of Txerri where spectators may drop in to root for their favorite combatant.

Trial of Potenzia

Excerpt from the Azterketa:
The Trial of Potentzia works in a tiered system. Names are picked from a ceremonial bowl until each Haragi is paired up with another Haragi blindly. These fights will take place until a winner is picked from each pair. Again, those winners are paired blindly until there are four finalists. Three of the finalists are given silver collars as a consolation prize for their valiant efforts. The winner of the arena is collared with gold, the Txapeldun Champion of the Arena.

There is only one rule to fighting within the arena: Survive or die. Additional rules may be added at the whims of the Wicked Council. Those in attendance may also have a say as the Vice Queens prefer to give what the people want. In the past, some of the rules include weapons, blind fighting, or 2-v-2 fights. Anything goes, which makes the fights in the Anthelmitzal Coliseum some of the bloodiest entertainment in all of Idalos.

Examples of Variable Rules

Odessa and her fellow Vice Queens are welcome to change the rules on the Txerri at any time during the trial. In the past, various rules have been tried. A list has been compiled of historical and recurring variants on the Trial of Potenzia that the Wicked Council will enact to stimulate the crowd.
  • 2 versus 2 fighting
    Unarmed combat only
    Ranged weapons only
    Close combat only
    Flooded arena
    Starved fighting
    Animal fighting
    Blind fighting

One or twice an arc, there will be a Champion battle, where Txapeldun fight one another. These fights can be bloody or ceremonial, depending on the favor the Txapeldun has or has not gained from Odessa. Rules in the past for Champion fights include the following:

  • Handicap fighting (Txapeldun x 3 novice fighters)
Mutilation (Punishment for unworthy Haragi against a Txapeldun)
    Against the Explosive Crowd
    Blood Rain

These rules are variable and Augierians are always looking for the next best thing to torture the Txerriak with. Since these rules are subject to spontaneous enactment, they are generally part of moderated threads where the Prophet has the luxury of changing the rules on behalf of the Wicked Council.

The Lurpeko

Credit: Djinn
[/anchor]
Born more from necessity than extravagance, the Lurpeko is an underground fighting pit located in the Hive. Before the Lurpeko, the testosterone of the slaves would reach dangerously high levels, causing the slaves to lash out, potentially killing one another. Aurelia devised a scheme instead that would turn their pent up aggression into a profit, and she set up the Lurpeko. Carved out of an out-of-the-way piece of the cavern, the whole "room" is a sixty-foot by sixty-foot square, with no seats or places to rest. Instead, drawn in the middle of the floor was a large square, forty-foot by forty-foot. This was the "ring" the two men would compete in.

The combat was meant to be high paced and non-lethal, allowing the slaves to get the aggression out without the loss of life. Conducted only during the slaves' downtime, they are allowed to congregate and meet in the Lurpeko, have their bouts, and be done with it. Aurelia has set up a gambling ring based solely on the fights of the Lurpeko, and the Naerikk who participate in it are given a cut of their bets, regardless of the slaves' owner. A small tax is taken from each bet for the city, and the rest go to the winner or winners of the bets. Unless so desired by the Naerikk, the slaves are given nothing from the fights.

Each bout lasts until one of the fighters can no longer continue, or gives up. For those who give up, they are not allowed to fight for the rest of the session, and instead are told to go back to the Underhive early. Those who cannot continue due to being knocked unconscious are checked to make sure they are still breathing, and then left outside the ring to awaken. When they do, they may stay through the session, but may not fight again. The winner of any bout is allowed to keep fighting, should they so wish. The bets hedged typically increase in intensity the longer a fighter goes on a streak, ensuring big payoffs for the Naerikk who bets that the next fight will be his last... And bigger payoffs for the Naerikk who bet that it won't be.

It is important to note that Aurelia, despite making quite a bit of coin from the activity, demands that the fighters who participate not shrug their intended duties at all. Those who attend the fights and then shirk their duties the following trial are punished, and may even be banned from the Lurpeko. The fights are considered to be extracurricular activities, and the slaves are to comply with their workloads as set by their masters or the city. Any injury sustained in the Lurpeko are irrelevant to the Naerikk, and the slave is still expected to do their work... Creatively, if the need be.
"Even the tamest boar needs to release his aggression."

OOC Information

This location is open to Txerriak, after they are released from their work duties for the trial. A Naerrik will come to collect slaves that wish to join the fights and shuttle them from the Underhive to the Lurpeko. Once the session is complete, all slaves are shuttled back to the Underhive. They are chained from the point that the leave the Underhive until they enter the ring to prevent disobedience and unsanctioned fighting. Once inside the ring, the chains are taken off until the fight ends.

There is no requirement for moderation unless requested.

The Vault of Arms

Credit: Nymph
[/anchor]
Image
Not all slaves were born in captivity. Some even were reputable merchants and warriors prior to their enslavement. These men may have owned weapons, chests of clothes, and other valuable items that were confiscated by the Naerikk raiders. These items were turned into the Vault of Arms when the slaves arrived in Augiery. There is a multitude of items behind the locked doors. Some of the items may never be seen by their owners again; others may appear within the Coliseum for bloody bouts of fighting to represent a collision between their form and current lives.

When passing the stone gates of the Vault of Arms, one might notice that there are many flames flickering. Shadows are not welcome here as it can be a method for Naer to slip through the doors if the flames were not the first barrier. The items inside belong to the city; specifically Runash and Aurelia. The items are cataloged by Aurelia's personal assistants, but she permits Runash to lay claim to the items given that her navies brought them in. Runash is entitled to equip her sailors and raiders with whatever items they lay claim to. Aurelia, otherwise, protects the unspoken for items. The heavy, vault-like doors represent Aurelia's claim on the treasure within while the emerald-eyed serpents on the front represent Runash's claim. No one knows what lies beyond the vaults which makes the defenses potentially endless.

OOC Information

For slave PCs that enter Augiery after creation and have lost important weapons and items, this is where those items will be stored. Items that were taken from PCs are listed in the following tab. These items belong to the city and may be bought or given away. They may also be given back to the slave PC for a short time in the arena if Odessa deems it appropriate for the upcoming battle.

Items

Claimed from Rafael Warrick upon entering Augiery:
[columns=2]
  • 1x Leather Armor, Good
    1x Leather Gauntlets, Good
    1x Leather Greaves, Good
    1x Medium Round Shield
    1x Longsword (Heirloom)

The Ganga

Credit: Nymph
[/anchor]
Image
Located in the Vice Sector, the Ganga (Grovokian for the "Vault") was designed by Aurelia to house Audrae's private collection of weapons, jewels, armor, and art. The other Vices and their factions will bring treasure to Aurelia. After close inspection and audit, only the finest items will be added to the collection. These items are given a heavy escort to the Ganga to ensure that they are stored safely.

Like most of the buildings within Augiery, the Ganga is built directly into the cavern column. Although the collection on the inside belongs to Audrae, the outside of the Ganga portrays Aurelia's desires. The intricate stone work that lines the columns and balconies are made of imported marble and polished by the Ikuli members on a regular basis to keep the vault shining bright. Some say it is a little over-the-top for Audrae, but there have not been any outright complaints from the Shadow Mother. So, Aurelia maintains that Audrae approves of the Ganga and the collection within.

Only Aurelia and the Ikuli know what is inside. There are very specific catalogs kept within Aurelia's private chambers. There are no known maps or architectural plans of the defenses inside. Not even a rumor has been passed around about what might be waiting inside for a thief. Aurelia enjoys the anonymity as the unknown strikes enough fear to keep pillagers off the Ganga's doorstep.

OOC Information

The Ganga requires moderation given the vast array of treasures that might be found here. Generally, only Aurelia and the Ikuli are allowed beyond the vaults doors; however, there may be an occasional thief interested in taking something for themselves. The defenses on the inside can be very treacherous, and no one truly knows what is waiting for someone with malicious intent. It is not unheard of for someone to enter and never return. If someone were able to sneak in and get out alive, they might find themselves with a unique item no one else will have the privilege of having.
