3 Cylus, 717

The twilight of Cylus bathed the world in its eerie dimness, but not even that could diminish the beauty of the forest. The ground was covered in a soft blanket of white. Each and every tree was covered in an icy layer that looked like frosting on a fancy cake. And when the wind blew, the frozen leaves clinked together like a thousand wind chimes, creating a beautiful harmony.

Lei'lira glided from one tree to the next, her feet barely seeming to touch the snow as she passed over it. She was searching for something, but she couldn't quite seem to remember what it was that she was looking for, or where she might have lost it. The only thing she knew for certain was that she would know it when she found it. So she walked aimlessly through the forest. But the aimless search didn't bother Lei'lira because the beauty of the forest was well worth seeing in and of itself.

She seemed to be walking forever before she came to a silver tree that grew along a river filled with liquid moonlight rather than water. Its opalescent leaves seemed to glow from within. Sky blue vines wound their way up the trunk. Leilira pulled one of the smaller ones off, twisting it into a necklace. She plucked one of the opalescent leaves, and placed it on the vine as a pendant before tying it in the back, and putting it around her neck. The leaf sang softly at the base of her throat, and before long, Lei'lira found herself singing softly along with it.

Lei'lira bent down and scooped up a handful of moonlight. It tasted light and sweet when she drank it, filling her with a gentle warmth. Just a little of the strange liquid was enough to quench her thirst. Although beautiful, the silver tree, and the necklace she had created from its generous bounty were not what she was searching for. With that in mind, Lei'lira moved off in continuation of her search.

Before long, she came to a small stream. The hilt of a weapon stuck up out of the water in the middle of the stream. Curious, Lei'lira waded out into the stream to investigate. The cool water soothed her aching muscles. When she pulled on the hilt, it came free easily. The blade, if it could be called a true blade...was a leaf. It looked similar to the opalescent leaves she had seen on the silver tree, but it was longer; long enough to make a good sized dagger blade. The leaf was encased in some kind of transparent crystal that gave it an incredibly sharp edge. Lei'lira was no expert on weapons, but it seemed to her that the leaf dagger would make a good weapon. It wasn't what she was looking for, but she decided to take it with her when she went back to her search.

After a while, Lei'lira came to a large clearing. A willow tree grew at the edge of a pond at the far end of the clearing. Silvery mist filled the clearing, making it hard to see, especially in the dim twilight that was Cylus. But Lei'lira thought she could see the vague form of a person leaning up against the willow. Even though she couldn't see the person clearly, there was something familiar about the person. Something stirred with her, making her realize that she hadn't been searching for a thing; she had been searching for a person...this person.

As Lei'lira approached the willow slowly, the form solidified into a man. She couldn't quite remember his name, but Lei'lira knew this man. Or at least she had, when they were both children. He had been a classmate, and one of the few friends she had had when she was growing up. When the other girls in her class were discovering boys, and trying to get the ones they liked to notice them, Lei'lira had been far more interested in her studies, and spending time with her sister. She had never tried to put on make up, or done any of the other silly things her classmates had done to make themselves look prettier. But even she hadn't been completely oblivious. She had noticed one boy. And that boy was standing before her now as a man.

They had had a lot of things in common when they were children. It was only natural for them to become friends once he had overcome Lei'lira's natural shyness. And as time passed, friendship had turned into a small crush...at least on her part. If her friend had noticed, he had never said anything.

Without any conscious thought on her part, Lei'lira slowed her steps, and moved her hips more as she walked. Men liked that sort of thing, didn't they? If there had been any makeup available to her, she might have tried to put some on. She wanted her friend to notice her now.

When he looked up, Lei'lira's heart skipped a beat. She batted her eyes coyly as she remembered the girls in her class doing when they tried to catch the attention of the boys they liked. It failed miserably.

"Do you have something in your eye?" the man asked in concern.

Lei'lira blushed, and shook her head. It was obvious that she had no idea how to flirt if the person she was interested in didn't even realize what she was trying to do.

"I know you...don't I?" he asked with a puzzled frown.

Lei'lira nodded.

"We went to school together." she said shyly.

The man's eyes seemed to light up as he smiled.

"Oh, that's right! I remember now. But I don't seem to be able to remember your name. I'm sorry."

Lei'lira shook her head, dismissing his apology.

"I can't seem to remember yours, either. Maybe it's the mist?" she suggested after a while.

She had never heard of mist that could erase memories before, but it seemed to fit somehow. The man nodded his agreement, at least. He didn't seem to be inclined to offer his name, so Lei'lira didn't tell him what hers was, either. And that seemed right too, somehow.

"I think you must be right. So...what are you doing now?"

They talked for what felt like forever. Lei'lira told the man that she had taken over her father's farm, and of the horse breeding farm that she hoped to create one day. She told him about Tiran and Taerin, but she couldn't bring herself to say just how they had come into her life. She even told him about Drayas being her husband. But rather than telling him the truth, she told him a partial truth instead. She mentioned that he spent most of his time in Andaris, working to improve his status among the other nobles, and that he only returned to the farm when it suited him to do so. But she said nothing of the last time he had come to see her, or of what had happened when he had.

He in turn told her that he was a farmer as well. But rather than raising animals as she did, he grew jacadons in his fields, much the same way one might grow wheat, or potatoes. That sounded like a very impressive fete to Lei'lira, so she told him as much, telling him that she admired anyone who was as dedicated to their work as he must be.

After a while, they fell silent, neither having any more to say. But before the silence could become awkward, the man offered his arm to her, asking if she wanted to dance. Lei'lira smiled shyly as she nodded. Then she took his arm. A brisk wind sprang up, filling the clearing with song as the leaves of the trees around them clinked together like wind chimes. He was an excellent dancer. She...was not, but he seemed to be able to compensate for her lack of skill.

As they danced around the clearing, it felt as though they were floating on air. When Lei'lira looked down, she found that they were doing just that. They were already several feet off of the ground, and were floating even higher as she watched in amazement. The higher they rose in the twilight sky, the darker it became. The world around them faded until nothing existed but the two of them. Then even they faded away as she slipped into the darkness around them.

Comment: Lovely little thread, Lei'lira is just so sweet and even through all the things she has survived, the attacks and the kidnapping somehow she still seems to have an air of innocence around her. Great job writing your PC and the NPC and the description was just beautiful. How you described the forest at the start, with the trees covered in ice and snow making them look like frosting on a cake, was beautiful. Good job enjoy the rewards, the knowledge is light as it was a dream and not very action heavy but well done, very enjoyable! I would also like to apologise that this took so long to get to you, sorry!

If you have any questions, issues or comments please feel free to PM me and I will see what I can help you with. Enjoy!
