• Location • Playhouse

The most respected venue in Viden for enjoying the arts.

Stronghold of education and learning, this fortress is in one of the coldest areas of Idalos and home to many knowledge seekers in a variety of disciplines. However, unknown to most, below the city are those who suffer for the sake of science. While all are welcome, not everyone will be treated as they expect.

The Playhouse

Viden is luck enough to play host to a number of troupes of travelling minstrels throughout the year. At least one troupe will remain for the winter period, when travel to and from the city is impossible. Most come to trade tales with the Prime Atheneum: scribes will record events of the world, based on the songs of the minstrels. In return, the players are allowed entry into the Atheneum to search for tales lost to modern players.

When visiting, it is nigh on impossible for any player to stand on the streets and play. Many inns and taverns allow individuals or small groups to entertain their punters, but the larger groups who wish to put on large productions may use the dedicated theatre. Not only professional minstrels use it, however: it is owned by the Academy, which allows many students from all Institutes to use the space. Arts are not valued as highly in Viden as the Sciences are, however academics understand how to appreciate drama, poetry, prose and music.

A large building containing just three rooms, the Playhouse's largest room is the theatre itself. The stage is large enough for 25 troupers to stand abreast, and deep enough for 6 rows of dancers. A maximum of 500 audience members can watch the performance, with over 300 seated on stools or plushed chairs. A large back room allowd for players to change and prepare in privacy, so as not to ruin the surprise or experience for the audience. The final room is an entrance hall, which has a small bar, offering simple drinks before, during and after the performance.
