The Salt Isle
There are a couple of small islands between Athart and Ivorian a four day journey from each other that the Brineborn have established small settlements on in the form of trading posts. Simply known as Khorja and Sharjo, named after Kiba’s pets, these two islands take less than half a day to cross on foot, and have long been claimed by the pirates of Blackbrine, used as a halfway point for their travels between the east, west, and southern continents.
Khorjo, also known as ‘The Salt Isle’ is a small, volcanic island with three distinctive rocks called ‘The Severed Soul’ situated at its centre. The rocks are six stories high and look like the portrait cut out of a woman's face when stood in the perfect spot, on a cliff named ‘Black Bird’s Beak’. The story goes that Faldrun, immortal of fire, and slayer of ‘The First Son,’ crafted from molten rock, the face of his brother's lover to taunt Kiba for bedding a mortal woman, exclaiming that he would hunt down and find their son, Creed, who the pair had managed to keep hidden most of his young life until he was old enough to follow his own path. Years later, when Faldrun finally tracked down the man and set him ablaze, he took his brother’s lover and conned the immortal of souls into trapping the moral woman's inside of the rock.
Kiba shook the world of Idalos for eight days and nights, trying to free his love from the rock. When it finally gave way, the world stood still once more, and the mortal woman’s soul was said to be set free. However, even to this day men have heard her calling to them when the wind races through the valley, and the ocean is calm.
Samsara runs the island and sells Blood Runes to tourists and visitors from around the world. Here most of the trade is done in goods or for gold, and it isn't strange for whole shipments of cargo to go missing when traversing these waters. Though none of the Brineborn have homes on the island, people have been know to dwell in makeshift huts along the coast, those sick of the norm, or just looking to escape the law and certain punishments back home. For the right price, Samsara will keep your identity hidden from any who come looking, and may even go as far as to get rid of them completely.
