Lake Lovalus
The city of Rharne was founded on the shores of Lake Lovalus, which is considered one of Idalos’ great lakes. It is roughly 200 miles in diameter, and those who look out on the lake from any shoreline typically see nothing but water and rolling waves. Even from the peak of Rharne’s mountain, the other side of the lake isn’t visible. Near the shore is a spike in rockiness, around which boats must navigate carefully.
Lake Lovalus feeds into the sea down the Zynyx river, which is approximately 16 miles at its widest and is the main trade and travel route in and out of Rharne. On any given day, the lake is frequented by numerous merchant ships and fishing boats coming in and out of port at Rharne’s harbour. The only time the boat traffic slows is during the Cold Cycle, and on some occasions comes to a standstill during Cylus when the lake is often frozen or near freezing.
Opposite the city of Rharne on the far side of the lake lives a small mer tribe who call themselves the Loval. They have historically been considered unaggressive unless provoked and rarely venture close to the city, but recent arcs have seen an increase in mer spottings along with the occasional disappearance of a fishing boat. Could these events be related? Only time will tell.
