  • ABOUT THE BUSINESS
  • Business Name: The Thanatology Guild
  • Business Location: Viden's Southern Outskirts
  • Business Description: A Guild dedicated to allowing patients to die in comfort, restless ghosts to find rest, and the circulation of labor contracts.

The Thanatology Guild itself is located in the outskirts of Viden, around a break or so of travel on foot from the Citadel. It is a stone structure that's capable of handling a large amount of patients, built in an octagonal shape to better house the furnaces within that burn the bodies in stacks: located on the east and west wings. The north, south, and middle wings are dedicated to patients, and offer a straight line of clearance from the corpse disposal areas.

Within the entrance, one is greeted to a bounty board behind one of the Guild's members. Only available as a seasonal service, one is able to take jobs pertaining to supernatural tasks. Officially, it's a means of handling ghosts and necromancers. Unofficially, it's a means of gathering intel and learning more of the supernatural.

Altus-Medicus

The Altus-Medicus is the senior-most physician within the guild. Those that bear this title are responsible for higher risk surgeries and coordinating the guild's internal team of physicians and nurses to provide care. They are the most commonly seen leadership role within the guild's building.

Name: John Hunter
Race: Eidisi
Date of birth: 02/12/687
Title: Altus-Medicus
Skills:
Medicine: 30/100
Surgery: 30/100
Leadership: 30/100
Discipline: 10/100

Other information:
John Hunter is a notable disgrace of an Eidisi. For a man in his thirties, he hasn't accomplished much, and the staggeringly high expectations of Videnese life towards his race has caused his esteem to plummet.

That esteem, however, found a boost when he was hired as the 'Altus-Medicus' for the Thanatology Guild. What better place for a sub-par doctor, than to be among the dead, dying, and damned?

Mr. Hunter speaks with an airy sort of tone. Though mostly aloof and lacking bedside manners, he often finds himself performing administrative duties rather than on-the-field autopsies and funerary duties. As such, he speaks with a stammer due to social isolation. Though his heart is in a good place, he often comes off as abrasive, often leading to his subordinates speaking on his behalf.

Altus-Advocatus

The Altus-Advocatus is the senior-most staff in charge of patient psychological welfare. Those that bear this title do not advocate for any specific patient, but instead collate all information collected from Advocatus and ensure that standards of care are being upheld.

Name: Jeanne D'Piaget
Race: Human
Date of birth: 04/23/679
Title: Altus-Advocatus
Skills:
Psychology: 30/100
Socialization: 30/100
Leadership: 30/100
Deception: 10/100

Other information:
Jeanne D'Piage was a woman born to an outskirts town near the coastline. As a child, she endured countless trauma at the hands of Mer raids, losing both her siblings to them being dragged beneath the waves. She spent most of her life trying to learn about the mind, and what drives others to violence.

She would find refuge to carry on her studies within the Thanatology Guild, gaining more and more anecdotes for her theories.

Miss D'Piage is a woman who believes in the practicalities of socialization. She smiles when expected, she offers drinks and food when not expected, but never quite goes out of her way. She is the most common representative of the Thanatology Guild due to her disarming demeanor and keen interest about learning of who she speaks to.

Altus-Procurator

The Altus-Procurator is the senior-most staff when it comes to supernatural intelligence gathering. While one bearing this title never sees the field directly, they are responsible for interviewing witnesses for information and coordinating the Procurators' efforts. They are the ones that stamp the Guild's approval onto all bounties listed on the board.

Name: Jonathan Lister
Race: Human
Date of birth: 04/23/682
Title: Altus-Procurator
Skills:
Intelligence: 30/100
Investigation: 30/100
Leadership: 30/100
Interrogation: 10/100

Other information:
Jonathan Lister was was a criminal of some foreign land. His past deeds washed clean when he defected from his homeland, he struck a deal with Sybil Malach to gain a position of authority within the Thanatology Guild, to gather information that could be used to further the Guild's hidden goals.

His voice is soothing, yet expectant. His mannerisms vary from demanding to understanding. It's always a shot in the dark to guess how he would behave one day versus the next.

Medicus

The Medicus are physicians charged with making decisions on patient health to keep them comfortable and quasi-healthy. This role is rarely fully filled, as the role of the Thanatology Guild is to offer comfortable passing, rather than any sort of notion of full recovery.

Name: Marie Walker
Race: Human
Date of birth: 04/23/682
Title: Medicus
Skills:
Medicine: 30/100
Surgery: 30/100
Detection: 30/100
Discipline: 10/100

Other information:
Marie Walker's specialization is amputation. As one of the more prevalent Medici within the Thanatology Guild, she is notably assigned to more drastic cases in which the patient is rapidly deteriorating. Her methods are unorthodox, but some theorize that her surgeries help patients through hope of recovery, rather than any real direct effect.

Ms. Walker speaks with an enunciated tone, always wears her bloodied apron, and demands eye-contact when speaking.

Advocatus

The Advocatus are counselors giving alms to the mentally impaired and grieving. Their services are towards both patients and their families, tasked with the distinct purpose of making sure death is handled appropriately, and the dying don't have anything that would draw them back.

Name: James Marlowe
Race: Human
Date of birth: 03/05/686
Title: Advocatus
Skills:
Psychology: 30/100
Socialization: 30/100
Logistics: 30/100
Intelligence: 10/100

Other information:
James Marlowe was a graduate of the Academy, though only with a Letter. He was a troubled youth who wasted most of his time getting involved in things he shouldn't have. But now, he's one of the most popular people within the Thanatology Guild's patient sector. His field of study focuses on means of treating mental trauma.

Mr. Marlowe is known to the patients given to the Thanatology Guild as a smooth talker with an excellent bedside manner. He is the most commonly requested person when it comes to patients, and as such, he has the least amount of time to spare others. However, when in his presence, he will always push things aside to make others feel welcome. Ontop of such a great record? He's known to get things done. Anything from increasing prescriptions for analgesics to getting staff to visit more or less.

Procurator

Procurators are the lifeblood of the Thanatology Guild's cash inflow. They make sure that the bounty boards are managed, and information from outlying towns are properly handled. Procurators are charged with keeping tabs on the supernatural events within Viden's wastes as well.

Name: Annabelle Richter
Race: Human
Date of birth: 03/05/689
Title: Procurator
Skills:
Intelligence: 30/100
Detection: 30/100
Logistics: 30/100
Investigation: 10/100

Other information:
Annabelle Richter is a person rarely seen within the Thanatology Guild itself. Always on the outskirts of Viden, she collates as much information as she can find, conducting minor acts of espionage to help uproot any subversive elements within the city-state itself regarding necromancy and the dead.

Miss Richter has no sense of humor, and is not often put near patients for a reason. She finds idle chatter to be insufferable-- Often not understanding that sort of personality trait, in turn, makes her nigh impossible to deal within in a positive light, unless it's giving and receiving orders.

Moritician

Morticians handle the dead. They work to preserve corpses through the means given to them, and to arrange the furnaces to properly dispose of bodies. Typically, they are rarely seen by the general population of the Guild, and are often busy teaching students.

Name: Daniel Simmons
Race: Human
Date of birth: 04/09/690
Title: Mortician
Skills:
Surgery: 30/100
Investigation: 30/100
Detection: 30/100
Endurance: 10/100

Other information:
Daniel Simmons is a butcher's son that was, at the end of the day, destined for no higher potential than to live and die by his father's business. That was, until he was given a unique opportunity by less-than-savory elements to learn a very specific form of trade. His specialty lies within corpse disposal, though never speaks on where he learned such feats.

Mister Simmons truly isn't a bright man. He's able to spot patterns and piece together a small-scale puzzle, but isn't capable of thinking of things on a larger scale. He speaks in short, curt sentences and tends to keep to himself as much as he can.
