The Retrieval

Image

Not once did this wayward sailor ever think it would be possible, to find himself on the other side of the world in almost a mere instant. Both he and another that was considerably a stranger came together, brought together by a common purpose that had been asked of them both. Were it under different circumstances then perhaps he would've thought about it, however after the aid Faith had provided upon his arrival in the city of Rharne; Enrick didn't intend to turn his back on someone who deserved her own favors. Not when she clearly had so much going on, and had to rely on nearly everyone one of her friends for the cause. Was that what Enrick was to her now? A friend?

The thought was interrupted by the passing of sailors and laborers on the docks, as he looked from the horizon of Lake Rea towards the glorious city of white stone. So this was where all slaves came to be free, liberated from the constraints of the chains that bound them to servitude. He'd packed only the necessities for this trip since the mission was clear, both he and the platinum haired lady were working together to retrieve a poison. He didn't fully grasp what it was other than important, enough to where reinforcements followed along with them when they'd walked outside of Zuudaria. Elementals from Scalvoris were going to wait outside with Sohr Kahl at the ready, so that they could spend the next eighteen trials flying straight back towards Rharne.

Which meant she'd honestly placed a lot of trust in both of them, and while Enrick's silver eyes watched the woman with platinum hair; his thoughts felt a weight of uneasiness developing overtime. "Guess we ought'a go look fer Hominy now dat we've arrived." He finally spoke aloud in just the general group, since he already felt the odd man out in this situation. He never had any proper training, never had to wear any sort of protection, much less never had to fear for his life up until now of course. The sailor had always chosen to remain out of things like this, knowing good and well they were always beyond him. While he wore the simple leather vest and brown linen pants for the sake of lighter attire, the gear in the travel bag he'd been given for this mission implied all of that might be changing soon.

Though the vestments were lighter gear in protective nature, the implication of potential danger already spoke volumes to Enrick. Still that didn't stop him from going through with this, thus the bearded sailor looked past the woman who called herself Gennadiya earlier. They were supposed to meet up with Hominy at the meeting place being the Western Temple, where other Zuuda gathered to worship the Immortal Famula, to collect the poison and be on their way as quickly as they possibly could. "Oi'll admit Oi'm way outta m' element in dis case," funny how a sense of irony played in part when he referred to element, "so Oi'll follow yer lead since y' likely know where t' go t' meet Hominy at."

When he said this Enrick gestured a hand forward to allow Gennadiya to take the lead, seeing as how she likely knew Ne'haer and was more familiar with the territory. If he'd heard right back when they were briefed in that Zuudaria place, then Ne'haer must've been like a home she'd lived in once. Thus while he played the minor role of smuggling whatever poison this was, he'd do his best to carry it out to the fullest and make sure Faith got it back in the time frame everyone had planned.

Re: The Retrieval

Gennadiya stood next to the others that had been with her in Zuudaria. Her sapphire blue eyes looked around her and saw the beautiful city of Ne’hear. Its glimmering white buildings toucher her heart in a way she hadn’t expected. She was original from Lyosria a rival of the white city, but she had lived within the walls of Ne’hear for many arcs. Gennadiya took a deep breath and slowly blinked her eyes. With the breath and blink she pulled herself together.

The platinum haired woman hadn’t ever really dealt with magic, and her interaction with the divine up until this season had been when she had received Ymiden’s mark and even then his gifts were pleasant but small. She had never dreamed of entering the realm of an Immortal and being instantly transported across the world. Her mind was still reeling, but her outward expression was calm.

Gennadiya was prepared for this assignment but in different ways then the other around her. She wasn’t a warrior, though she felt her war fan closed in her hand. She held it only partly for security. Ne’hear in Ymiden could be muggy. She was also wearing leather armor, but it was hidden under the loss flowing down designed to allow freedom of movement. Over that she wore the green hood and cloak that mark her a healer of the Order. She also carried her medical sack with its supplies.

Her blue gaze turned to look at her fellow agent. He towered over her with his color changing eyes. Gennadiya wasn’t short, especially for a women, but he made her feel short. His name was Enrick and he was a Biqaj and human. Gennadiya didn’t really know much about him, but Faith had asked him to come with her. That was good enough for her. She also glanced at the guards who had come with them. Her expression was warm and friendly as she took each of them in. Her gaze settled upon Enrick as they he spoke.

“Let’s get going then.” She said with a smile and started walking towards the Western Temple. Gennadiya was fairly worried about this mission but didn’t show it as she began to move. She moved with a graceful purpose. Her steps firm, not running but purposeful. She held her self upright and confident as she moved. Even now many found it a pleasure to watch her as she moved. She only got a few passes when she paused and looked back at Enrick. “We should walk together. It will look less odd that way.” She said with a thoughtful smile. “People might become suspicious if they see you following my every step.”

She paused and waited for his answer before moving forward again. She slowed her pace to allow for the crowd moving with her. Her pace was still steady and purposeful. Soon they entered the busy streets of the white city and processed slowed a bit, but Gennadiya was able to lead them through the secondary streets that avoid the large crowds. The platinum haired woman always wore a smile as she walked the streets of her old home. She would smile at people they passed and others smiled back at her.

It took a bit of time but they found themselves at the Western Temple walking up the steps. It was a sadly glorious place. Dedicated to those who had lived full lives and left their mark on the world. Soon they were all standing at the top looking over the structure. Hominey wasn’t waiting right at the top of the stairs, which made sense to the healer. Standing out in the open would be dangerous especially if there was a spy. She walked towards Famula shrine within the temple. As they drew closer she felt torn. While she used medicine and many could be a poison if used wrong it was strange to actually be retrieving one. It was true that this one would help to inhibit those who sought to harm others and to raise those who were dead. Gennadiya felt her resolve rise at that thought. The dead should be left alone.

She drew her focus back as they came upon Hominey. She suddenly appeared as the came upon Famula’s section of the temple complex. The choosen of the Immortal looked them over and then nodded for them to follow her.

Re: The Retrieval

Image
Enrick's bronze colored eyes brightened to a bit of a cyan when Gennadiya smiled, the pace he kept a modestly slow one so that he followed along after her when they began. By now the sailor was used to the idea of the world being much bigger than he knew, yet still the fact that he'd just walked into another city couldn't be ignored either. He had never heard of Ne'haer before but seeing it now really amazed him, and now all of a sudden he felt like he'd walked into a brand new world yet again. One would've thought he'd learned once reaching Desnind, that surely there was still so much out there he had yet to see in person. However sightseeing wasn't a thing he had the time nor luxury for, as they'd come here on an important mission and could not delay.

Along the way he took in as much of the sights as he could, as clearly the magnificence of the landmarks were hard to miss. That was when Genna seemed to turn just enough to face him as they walked, with a suggestion in mind that they walk together so that it seemed more... natural? Clearly following the lady around like a lost pup wasn't good for the mission, since he was new to the area and had much to observe during this trip. Still that didn't stop the sailor from grinning to Adiya after hearing it, since she clearly seemed in her element while they walked towards the temple. "If y' t'ink dat'll help." He remarked as he picked up his pace, only slightly, to match her's and walk alongside the lady in their stride towards the Western Temple.

He realized that Genna was actually doing more than just getting them to the temple, she did everything she could to look the part as one of the locals here. Naturally this led him to feel even more unusually out of place, but that didn't stop Enrick from trying to follow her example nonetheless. They had a package to retrieve after all and if they were to smuggle it out unnoticed, then he needed to do more than just pretend to be along for the ride. He needed to walk with that same sense of purpose the healer projected herself, as they strolled along the crowds down the street towards their destination.

Eventually they reached the stairs that'd lead the inside the temple, towards the shrine of Famula where they were to rendezvous and meet with Hominy afterwards. Enrick took that moment of reprieve to admire the architecture and design, as he'd never seen such elaborate things in Desnind nor Scalvoris. Finally when their querrant came into view to gesture for them to follow, Enrick did so along with Gennadiya as he noted the watchful eyes on them.

This was it, the moment they'd receive the package. Anybody who didn't stand with Faith's armies would see them as well, which meant their enemies could very easily flag their arrival down as well. Time was of the essence from this point on and Enrick wasn't going to waste any of it, and so the sailor followed along with the others until they reached Hominy's private quarters within the temple. "I trust none followed you here?" She checked as Enrick shut the door behind them, while the Lightning Knights that followed remained just outside to stay on guard.

"Nobody stood out so far, Oi'm sure we'll find out once we leave." He remarked as Hominy moved towards her workstation to sort through the bottles of concoctions stored away. Before long she'd find what it was she was looking for, and it'd fall to either Gennadiya or Enrick to carry the poison along with the decoys they were provided.

Re: The Retrieval

Enrick did move up beside her and they moved through the city at and excellent pace. The key was to look busy but not rushed. Rushed just always drew attention. People wanted to know why you were in a hurry and they wanted gossip about it. To slow and you frustrated people or became a mark because clearly you were new.

A handsome man and a beautiful woman walking together might invoke some fleeting envy but it was soon forgotten if even registered. Gennadiya did feel that anyone was following them which was why she chose the secondary streets. Easier to spot people.

As they finally arrived and were escorted to there contacts chambers she shote Enrick a triumphant smile. Her sapphire-blue eyes danced with excitement as well. She was both excited and terrified. Her expression otherwise was calm and composed as they paused to wait.

Gennadiya nodded hear head in agreement. “I did notice anyone but I think we might want to take the back stairs and I already have a different path planned through the city.”

She looked at the vial. This was the reason for this mission. In this vial was a new weapon to fight the coven. Gennadiya was aware that the coven had enough variety of magic users but the necromancers brought the troops to the field. She looked at the two of them and eyed it and then touched her hair. It was composed of a couple braids that had then been wound into a coil on the back of her head. “The important question is where will we hid this. My medical bag would be an obvious place to look but we could hide it in braids of my hair. I have some more pins to help hold it there. Unless you have another way to hid it.” Gennadiya said with a thoughtful expression as she looked Enrick.

Re: The Retrieval

Enrick noted how quickly Genna had come with an alternate escape route, which quickly proved just how familiar and resourceful she really was. She definitely had the city layout down in her mind and not only that, she also came up with the idea on where the real vial would be hidden. "If she's one o' many agents servin' Faith in de war..." The thought made him consider what other resourceful people were at her disposal, and wherein did Enrick himself fall into the equation exactly. He brought a group of slaves to Rharne with the intention to free them, the crew he was with more than likely flagged as smugglers once Faith got there.

So maybe that was it? Apart from the fact they wanted to set the slaves free instead, the fact he worked among smugglers could've also tied into this? He didn't wish to think it was mere coincidence, that the leader of the big war wanted him to just travel alongside a healer just for shits and giggles. "Oi don't 'ave any better plans honestly." He admitted with a stern look as his bronze colored eyes darted between Genna and Hominy. "If it's safer and more secure, then perhaps the braid is our best choice. Otherwise..." He bit his lower lip in consideration as his hands rested at his hips. "Oi'm sure Oi can manage t' make room down below."

Not by far the greatest idea to be sure, either place the vial in a braid of hair or near the groin. Hominy seemed to look at him with an acute sense of "Are you fucking serious" with that implication, quickly turning to Gennadiya since the obvious choice was right there. Enrick rolled his eyes and admittedly, a spot of yellow formed around the pupils just a bit. He wondered if that little remark might make its way back to the person in charge, granted he'd been serious about it and meant good by it. Maybe it was just the way he said it? Fuck if he knew. "That should do." The lady stated as she helped finish the braid for Genna, quick to move to where the other boxes were with their fakes inside. "Remember that these are the decoys Faith instructed to make. You'll have to give the extras to the knights following you, and try to make it convincing that these are important."

Hominy moved with a couple small boxes handed to Genna first, then the next two handed over to Enrick with a stern look. It was warranted granted his earlier suggestion, which he vacantly nodded as he held the two with both hands. "Aye," with that he looked to Gennadiya with flecks of Cyan found in his bronze irides, "Let's get t' it den." He encouraged as it was once more up to the healer to take the lead, of course Enrick would pay mind to walk alongside her as before this time. Once they were out the door with the extra set of decoys handed to their entourage, Enrick placed his within the pocket of his vest in a nonchalant manner afterwards. Come the time to move along he walked beside Genna, with a complete state of anxiousness he hid beneath a brave face. He wouldn't let his nerves get the better of him in this important task.

Re: The Retrieval

The young healer didn’t bat an eye when Enrick proposed stuffing it down his pants. It was the way a man thought and the world they lived in and she was sure other men would have proposed the same place. Decent men wouldn’t ever think about touching another person underclothes and so felt it was a safe place. Gennadiya smiled kindly at him even as she knew the falsehood of that thought. There were plenty of guys who didn’t even register that as a boundary and a share of woman as well.

Hominey expression was rather amusing as she helped Gennadiya unwrap the bun so that there was only the thick braid was left. “Can you but it in a leather sheaf.” Gennadiya asked.

Hominey nodded her head. “Excellent idea. When was the last time you washed your hair?”

“I only wash my hair every few trials.” Genna answered.

“That makes sense, no one who washes there hair more then that could keep it in braids like you do.” With the vial sheathed the alchemist carefully wiggles it into the weaves of the braid close to the scalp. “Hair.....” Gennadiya handed the woman A hairpin. With the precision of someone able to place one drop in a potion, she slipped the pin into the braid and through the sheaf.

The two women then carefully wound the braid back into a bun that covered the vile and then carefully secured it with more hairpins. When they were done Hominey paused for a minute and looked at Genna. The two women meet each other’s gaze and processed with the rest of the plans.

Gennadiya took her little box with the fake remedy and held it in her hand before slipping it securely into her medical bag. She held the other box as Enrick and herself stepped out of the room. She handed her box to the knight with her.

“I need you secure this please.”

“Yes ma’am.” He said as he took the box she watched for a moment to give the impression to anyone watching that she actually cared where it was stored. Once they had all secured there decoy vial Genna smiled at Enrick and they took the priests way out of the Western Temple.

Like before Gennadiya led down secondary streets of the city. She walked with the same purpose and graceful gait. She chose other streets then the first trip through. Sometimes they would take main roads for a brief stint but she kept to streets where there were other people but not so many that it would be hard to miss someone coming up behind them or trailing them.

The young healer felt sad that she didn’t have more time in Ne’haer as they approached the launching point. She would have liked to say high to her old friends and it would have been nice to visit with her father, but for know she would have to live with letters.

Soon they entered the more dangerous part of the trip as anyone paying attention would know where the four Sour Khal and their riders waited for them and as they came upon the creatures Genna could help but release a relieved breath.

Re: The Retrieval

Image
Enrick waited patiently when it came to waiting for the two to get the real poison situated, knowing good and well that his role in all of this was simple. An easy escort mission to smuggle that questionable thing out, while any possible leaks Faith wanted to sniff out might be determined soon. The sailor couldn't help but hope against the fact nothing would happen along the way, because while it meant they were safe from harm in the instant; all that effort could've very well been rendered pointless and in vain. For that poison wouldn't make it through a magical warp back to safety, and that would mean those back in Rharne would have to work from scratch. Not that they weren't already, but Faith and Genna both had made a clear point beforehand. Thus Enrick took it upon himself to make sure it'd get back, which meant ensuring Genna made it back in one piece as well.

At the brief conversation over how often one washed their hair though, he couldn't help but bite a lower lip in a mix of anticipation and impatience. Then again he didn't understand the significance of something so trivial, albeit he never had the luxury of frequent bathing while out at sea neither. Once that was out of the way and they moved to give their fellow knights their decoys, it fell to Genna once more to lead them to their next determined point of interest. Admittedly this was also where Enrick felt the most uncomfortable all of a sudden, as he'd be riding on the back of some great beast named a Sohr Kahl with another. Granted that other would be a professional flyer, and piloting the beast on their way back to the city of Rharne nonetheless.

Still the fact they'd be flying for Breaks on end didn't sound at all appealing, and Enrick honestly didn't know how well he'd fair being way up in the air constantly. Then again... He might've actually found himself able to enjoy it, there just wasn't any real certainty at that point in time. As they walked Enrick did as he intended to with keeping up with her, wary to pay mind with how he strolled rather than paced to appear a bit more natural in form. He certainly was eager to get moving but in doing so, took in what sights remained in place on their venture towards the next rendezvous point. Ne'haer looked to have so much to see, maybe even offer the next time he found himself here at some point. For now though the mission remained the current objective, and when they arrived to see the white winged beasts awaiting them; Enrick's skins quickly developed goosebumps at their mere sight.

They were magnificent and terrifying to behold at the same time, gorgeous beasts that he never would've considered riding before. Now though? The moment they drew closer to them, and their Element riders, Enrick's anticipation peaked as he had to maintain a sense of calm somehow. His breathing deepened as he partially looked excited, with his eyes filled brightly with cyan hues when they finally arrived. "Looks like you both made it. Are we ready to depart?" The Elemental rider Enrick had approached inquired as he looked from the sailor to the others, which Enrick did too so that he didn't urge everyone to do something they weren't prepared for. What was he kidding! He wasn't prepared for this in any way at all, but now that he saw these creatures up close; how could he not feel excited about riding atop of one?!

"Oi'm ready." He confirmed after allowing Genna and the others to confirm that they too were ready, in which they were aided in mounting the saddles and preparing for departure. His heart banged incredibly hard and fast within his rib cage, and yet he felt all the more alert and aware now that he sat with his Elemental rider strapped before him. Pretty soon they would take to the skies once preparations were finished, and when Enrick felt the world sank below him he truly felt a sense of wonder. How long would it take before all of this grew old? Before watching the world below him became tiresome? He didn't wish to think about that now, much less what they were supposed to focus on either. He just wanted to enjoy the fact that he literally flew, in a sense, as they soared nearly as high as the clouds from their departure of Ne'haer.

Re: The Retrieval

Gennadiya paused as the came upon the terrifingly majestic beast of the air. The Lysorian woman looked up at the creature even as the Element who would take her approached to see if she was ready. It took a moment for her to come back to the question at hand but nodded her head and said in a soft voice. “We are ready.” She then turned back. Honestly Gennadiya had not faced this part of the mission. She knew it had to be done, and she knew she would do it, but still.

She wasn’t sure how she would feel not seeing the ground under her feet. The young woman hadn’t found her self particularly afraid of heights, but there was a differences between standing on a tall tower, and sitting on something high in the air with nothing but air under you. Taking a deep breath Gennadiya focused on calming her self and keeping the panic down as she looked at the flying creatures.

She then turned and smiled at Ricky. “I am feeling a bit nervous about this, but I guess it is the only way.” With that she walked over to the Element who had approached her earlier. “Well lets see how this goes.” She said with a smile. With help she mounted behind the rider and followed his direction to make sure she was securly strapped in. She felt a panic rise, but pushed it down and then offered a silent prayer to Ymiden for his strength.

Gennadiya looked around and gave Ricky a reasuring smile, which was as much for herself as him. Soon everyone was secured and Gennadiya fought the erge to closer her eyes against the launch, instead she forced herself to watch and to face her fear, her worry. She did cling tighter then necissary to the rider in front of her though. It a burst of speed the ground dropped away below her and they were in the air. Gennadiya looked down at Ne’hear as the slowlly gained height, her eyes going wide the city became smaller, but instead of fear there was a certain awe at being able to see the huge city all at once.

Her gaze contiuned to watch the ground as they flew over a world she had only walked and never seen from this angle, and she discovered there was a certain thrill in seeing the world so very differently. She still held on tight but she no longer had an urge to closer her eyes. Instead she wished she had a way to capture the image below forever.

So it was that the group flew with the package secured and their fakes at hand for what ever may lay ahead of them.

Ricky

Overview

An interesting build-up for what is to come. Ricky's unease and his inexperience in this kind of dangerous missions are well portrayed, as well as his interest in the new city despite the circumstances. His reaction to the weird flying beasts is believable. All in all a very good contribution to the story from you. Point, knowledge, but I think the mission is so secret that it's too early for renown. I'm sure they will get that later, if they succeed to deliver the poison. Let's hope they do, for the sake of Idalos!

Gennadiya

Overview

You write Gennadiya in a very convincing way. Her graceful and determined style stands out and really makes me feel that he is a woman to count with. It was fun when she came up with the trick to hide the poison in her hairstyle. It also told volumes about her courage, that she dared to carry it there. As said in Ricky's review, its an intriguing build-up for what will come. An exciting and excellent thread. You get points and knowledged, but same as for Ricky, I think renown is a later thing when they deliver ... which we have to hope they will. Good luck and save the world!
