35th Saun, 718
Tei'serin was more than ready for the trials filled with constant sunlight and unbearable heat to be over. She liked the warm weather as much as anyone did, but the heat of Saun was taxing at best. And knowing that her poor daughter was suffering under its affects made her dislike it even more. Ei'ryl was the opposite of most children she had met. The tiny girl thrived in the cold. In fact, the colder it was, the happier she was. But in the heat of Saun, Ei'ryl had no energy at best. She was also prone to weakness, and tended to get sick far more often in the brutal heat than she ever did in the cold of Cylus.
But the Art Festival was a bright spot in the seemingly endless, relentless heat. As Tei'serin and her family rode into the village, it was all that they could talk about. Her mother was bringing Ei'ryl in so she could act as a chaperone when Tei'serin brought her class to see the stalls set up by the local artists. The Gardeners would be acting as chaperones as well, as would a few of the other parents. Without them, the trip simply wouldn't be possible. Tei'serin knew from experience that trying to take the class out on any kind of a trip was fool hardy at best without chaperones to help her keep an eye on the children. Her students were good kids, but kids were kids. Even good children could get carried away by excitement, and act out as a result.
Keiaris and Meiarin talked excitedly among themselves. Tei'serin knew that both of the girls had been saving up their nels for the past season in the hopes of being able to buy a picture for their room. Sorin was more interested in seeing the actors and musicians that would be at the festival, but Tei'serin could see the light in his eyes that told her he was just as excited for this school trip as his younger sisters were.
They were not the first to arrive at the school, but there weren't many students waiting for them, at least. Tei'serin let the children play while she greeted the other chaperones, and spoke with them about what she hoped to achieve during the festival. She wanted each of the parents to give the kids some time to see what they wanted to see, but she also wanted them to see some of the art that was going to be displayed, not just listen to the music, and watch the actors. Their assignment for the trial would depend on it since she was going to ask them to write about an artist of their choice. The younger children would have to pick one particular work of art and tell the class about it rather than write anything. Either way, she wanted to know that they had spent some time paying attention to the true focus of this festival; the local art, and the artists who had produced it. It was Tei'serin's firm belief that art was part of a society's culture, and that culture was important...even in farming communities like Treth. Perhaps even especially in farming communities like Treth.

Free Item: Vhalar's Paintbrush -- At the end of a character's thread they'll find a paint brush given to them by a stranger, one that seems plain and ordinary in comparison to others. However when used the paintbrush creates almost life like illustrations, as colors seem more vibrant and mysteriously animistic when observed closely. Note that this is not Vhalar's personal paintbrush, just named after the Immortal, and cannot be sold or given to another character.
