Name: Livlös Tree
Quick Facts:
These Giant rare trees can be found in the northern parts of Idalos. Mages that come across these trees tend to find their sparks go quiet, as these trees tend to siphon excess magic from their surroundings.
Their branches hold host to many animals, such as; Squirrels, birds, chipmunks, Insects, and in some cases primates. As they are long lived, many generations my live and die on the trees before they finally fall to the elements.
Height: They can grow up to 100 meters tall
Width: They can grow to be 6 meters in diameter
Length: Their branches can reach almost 20 meters in diameter
Fruit: They are a nut bearing tree
Poison: The tree has no negative side effects unless you have a magic spark. In which case, if any part of the tree is consumed, the magic ability of the creature will be disrupted until it passes.
Native to: These plants are native to the Northern area of Idalos
Locations: Viden, Avaern, Scalvoris, Nekhet, Andaris, Valaris, and scattered in the Northern parts of the Eternal Empire.
Appearance: The Livlös Tree can reach 100m tall with a trunk diameter of 6m. It has a conical crown, with horizontal to slightly drooping branches. The bark can be very thick, up to 28 cm, and quite soft and fibrous, with a bright white color when freshly exposed, weathering darker. The root system is composed of shallow, wide-spreading lateral roots.
The leaves are variable, being 13–25 mm long and flat on young trees and shaded shoots in the lower crown of old trees. On the other hand, they are scale-like, 5–10 mm long on shoots in full sun in the upper crown of older trees, with a full range of transition between the two extremes. They are dark green above and have two blue-white bands below. Leaf arrangement is spiral, but the larger shade leaves are twisted at the base to lie in a flat plane for maximum light capture.
Habitat: These trees prefer colder climates, but can grow in warmer areas, though not as to their full size. They grow deep in forests and tend to be in several clusters.
Lifespan and Development: These trees pollinate through the air pollination process. After the pollination is done, the adult tree begins to produce large fist size acorns. These acorns may fall and sprout there, or get carried off by animals to other locations. Deer tend to enjoy the nut and move them though their gut. Once they start to sprout, they start like any other tree. Getting to 3-4 meters in height within the first Arc. Their growth continues for 20 arcs. That is when they grow to their largest size, and all growth slows. They can live on for hundreds of arcs if they don't get a disease or get cut down. When they finally do fall, a large area of land will be cleared as they fall.
Uses: Some people use the wood from the tree to build, as they are very sturdy. Though they are also used as shields to help defend against magic, as even after being cut, the wood tends to keep the magic nullification property for many arcs. Mages, of course, would like to see trees eradicated wherever they are found. But this is very difficult, due to their size and the fact that magic can not be used in the process. Even the remaining stump and roots are a powerful ward against magic for quite some time.
Temperament: (Only if it’s the kind of plant that wants to eat someone)
Abilities: Magic (spark) Interference and disruption.

- 100 feet +/- from trunk This brings the mage over the average root structure of a full-grown tree. - Mage will feel dizzy and/or weak, finding that every cast seems to cost 25% more ether to complete (which it does). Doesn't know where it's coming from.
- 50 feet +/- from trunk - Every cast costs 50% more ether. Knows the direction from where the effect comes, but may not realize it's the tree. Hard to focus or Meditate.
- Touching the tree - Every cast costs double the ether. Instant reduction of 1 tier and mage is stricken with vertigo. S/he clearly knows it's the tree doing it, but has trouble breaking away, as if every movement is somehow misdirected to cause even more contact.
- Blood contact with living tree (example: the mage falls, scraping their arm, and the wound stays in contact) - Instant reduction of 1 tier and on brink of overstepping. If the contact remains (maybe they hit their head), an additional tier reduction every 5 bits. Complete equilibrium disorientation.
Takes 1 trial before ether begins to recharge normally, sparks will hunger during this time. - Indirect Consumption (Eating the meat of an animal that has recently, or regularly, eaten any part of this tree) -
Goes from "100 foot" effects to applicable "Touch" effects and 1 additional tier reduction over a half break.
Unless vomited immediately, all ether is lost over the next trial. Normal recharge begins the trial after that. - Living Consumption (Okay, not very likely, but it could be set up to happen) - Instant loss of all access to magic. Inability to walk or remain standing. Mild overstepping. Once passed or vomited, in one full trial ether recharging begins at half rate. The spark will also hunger for ether.
- Manipulation - Spells directed at the tree will be absorbed, the ether will move though the tree causing a slow growth. The stronger the spell, the more of a growth will be visible. (A novice will cause a 25 day boost in growth, while a master will cause a cycle of growth. All in a bit.) This does not increase the age of the tree, only the size making it a poor option for mages trying to kill it.
