Re: Hopetoun

Thread: Golden Chain III: The Kindness of Strangers
Participants: Vega, NPCs
Brief description of thread: This is the culmination of a series of threads where Vega has previously written to the Council to get aid for the incoming refugees. She has also secured the design for an Inn in Hopetoun, though they didn't have the resources to build it. The Council for Welfare sent resrouces, as did the Order of the Adunih, sufficient to build and stock a barracks-type two floor building. Vega used the design of the Inn previously gained so that a) we can feed the refugees which are incoming and b) it can be used as an Inn once we have them settled.

Settlement Resources Used: None, built with donated materials.

Intended Changes:See this guide.
From the review by Pig Boy:
  • A new group of people are able and willing to join the settlement. Elise + Refed + 2 ranger recruits. +4 population to the Hopetounian settlement and -4% order.
  • The player sets up a useful service in their settlement, such as a bank or insurance broker, and instructs settlers on how to run this service themselves. (Either I or Trouble will determine the effects of this) - the Inn will be run by an existing NPC, Serena.
  • The player completes an action that directly solves a problem the settlement is experiencing: +2% order
There are other changes (re: Ranger HQ in Ymiden) - but I'll do those separately, as they'll be threaded. Thanks!
 ! Message from: Trouble
Having read the note left by Pig Boy in the Xiur progress tracker: "As you complete these conditions, please submit them to this tracker, where I will look them over, and make sure everything is up to snuff. Please do not submit for grading until I tell you to. I may want to grade some myself, and when it's all said and done, will submit myself to the Settlement thread for Hopetoun." And in light of a discussion Pigs and I been having via PM, I am going to refrain from awarding any changes for threads that are part of the Xiur's champion project as of yet. They will be all submitted together by Pigs once this series is complete, and lead to a large bulk reward.

To confirm, I am not saying that you will not recieve this reward: only that it will be awarded as part of a very large consequence for all the Xiur threads combined once this series is completed. I will PM Pigs about his review note.

Vega's skin has a reflective metallic sheen with a red glow. Her eyes still swirl biqaj colours, but one colour is always bright red which glows like fire. She has a bright red glow in her chest, situated directly under the mark of a heart (Daia mark) in the middle of a glowing silver dragon on her chest (Xiur). She's unnaturally warm to the touch

Re: Hopetoun

Thread: Hook, Line, And Anchor
Participants: Darius Baer and a few named NPCs.
Brief description of thread: Darius visits Sea Spray Ships in Almund and purchases two ketches, so that Kester and Brigitte can take a few sailors/fisherfolk each and catch larger quantities of fish. More food in people's bellies!
Settlement Resources Used:
  • The brig Libertalia, although that's Darius' personal ship, so unsure if it applies.
Intended Changes:See this guide.
  • The player completes an action that proves they are trustworthy to the settlers. +1% Order (I *think* this applies? As Darius purchases the ships and gifts them to the settlement, it shows he is a trustworthy provider.)
  • The player completes an action that directly solves a problem the settlement is experiencing. (Does not stack with the above action.) +2% Order (+2% Order in total, if this applies.) The settlers are now able to catch larger quantities of fish and provide more food for consumption in Hopetoun or for trade with other locations.)
  • The player creates or acquires resources that will help their settlers gather a primary resource. +10WP. (Two ketches of Masterwork quality will enable the settlement to have a larger bounty of fish.)
 ! Message from: Pegasus
Accepted. As a result of this Hopetoun has gained:
  • +1 Order (Darius shows he is a trustworthy provider)
  • +10 WP (due to the increase in fishing)

Re: Hopetoun

Threads:
This is the Champion of Xiur / Beacon / Inn / etc storyline.
There are 24 threads in total (including the final modded thread). So rather than list them all, I'll link to the tracker here

Participants: Vega, Doran, Arlo, Hart, Darius, Kisaik, Wren, Hopetoun NPCs, Vega's NPCs, Bao (via letter), Scalv Ranger NPCs, Saoire's Dream NPCs.

Brief description of threads:
Xiur tasks Vega and Doran with building a beacon in preparation for a ship which will come in with people needing help. They set about doing that.
They build a beacon Image which has a place called Nella's Kitchen which will be a business for Hopetoun selling pickles, jams and chutneys from their excess produce.
Xiur tasks them with preparing for the refugees who are coming and so Vega ropes in as many people as she can. She spends her own money (20 WP) too, and builds a building to house the refugees which will become an Inn for Hopetoun. She also sets up a camp for them using her capstone ability. Each refugee has a "care package" of blankets and bedding etc - they planned for up to 50 people, so 32 should be well looked after.

Settlement Resources Used:
Wood.
NPCs.

Intended Changes:See this guide.

Pigs' note in the Champion Plot Tracker suggests the following:
  • Effect: Hopetoun is a Beacon of Hope: The Beacon of Xiur has become a touchstone for the burgeoning village of Hopetoun. Not only does it provide a sense of belonging and hope to the people themselves, but also acts as a lighthouse for nearby ships passing by, to find a berth in Hopetoun. This leads to increased traffic and easier navigation for passing ships. It also acts as an advertisement to them that this is a good place to make stops for those ships, and leads to increased trade prosperity in the settlement.
    • +3% Order
    • +1 WP for any wealth threads taking place in Hopetoun, cumulative with any other bonuses.
    • +1 WP for any transactions or transaction threads taking place in businesses in Hopetoun, cumulative with any other bonuses.
  • The player sets up a useful service in their settlement, such as a bank or insurance broker, and instructs settlers on how to run this service themselves x 2
    • Beacon of Hopetoun: A lighthouse and food kitchen within the settlement of Hopetoun.
    • Also sets up an Inn and hospitality system for Hopetoun.
    • +4% Order
  • The player completes an action that directly protects the settlers from harm.
    • 23 threads where Vega was helpful :P : +23% to Order
  • New population for Hopetoun: 32 souls migrated to Hopetoun
    • -32% Order
Pigs also says:
Trouble and I have discussed an extra supernatural effect to be awarded, but that is pending their final analysis of this plot. Of course, all of these proposed effects are subject to final approval of Trouble.

Hope that is enough / not too much info. Thanks!
 ! Message from: Trouble
Accepted. As a result of this thread, Hopetoun has gained:
  • Effect: Holy Land of Xiur
The people of Hopetoun have proven their devotion to the ideals that Xiur stands for, and have earned his respect. As a result Xiur has declared Hopetoun to be a sacred place to him, and bestowed his blessing upon the settlement itself. This has granted it the following effects:
    • The lighthouse of Hopetoun possesses a special, divine ability. The light emitted from it is enchanted by Xiur's will to repel threats to Hopetoun. Any living creature who wishes harm upon Hopetoun or any of the settlers who live there will find that, when the light of the lighthouse shines on them, it is painfully bright to look at and burns their skin with the intensity of the desert sun. Any undead creature will find themselves literally pushed backwars by the light.
    • Once per arc, in a moment of great peril, the light from the lighthouse will form into the shape of a great ship of pure starlight that can transport a normal count of men or troops. It does not require a crew, following the will and direction of the leader of Hopetoun, and remains intact to complete its journey even if the leader should be killed. It travels at a greatly increased speed, resists supernatural hazards like the following wave, and can cruise right through a calm. However, it can take basic damage from any source. Damage however does not breech the hull or harm the masts or sails. It only disperses that small bit of light causing the entire form to shrink slightly and "fill in" the damage. This ship will only sail to one destination before dispersing.
    • Every permanent settler in Hopetoun has the power to touch any item and cause it to glow with a bright, starry light. This light can be directed away from the holder, so as not to dazzle night vision. This power can be maintained as long as the item is held by the settler.
  • Effect: Beacon of Hope: The Beacon of Xiur has become a touchstone for the burgeoning village of Hopetoun. Not only does it provide a sense of belonging and hope to the people themselves, but also acts as a lighthouse for nearby ships passing by, to find a berth in Hopetoun. This leads to increased traffic and easier navigation for passing ships. It also acts as an advertisement to them that this is a good place to make stops for those ships, and leads to increased trade prosperity in the settlement, granting:
    • +1 WP for any wealth threads taking place in Hopetoun, cumulative with any other bonuses.
    • +1 WP for any transactions or transaction threads taking place in businesses in Hopetoun, cumulative with any other bonuses.
  • +32 Population (the refugees that arrived on the ship.)
  • -2% Order (Lots of helping out the settlement - the unrest that comes from so many new people joining the settlement.
Congratulations of completing your champion questline.

Re: Hopetoun

Challenge Completed
Thread:
The Road Is Long
He Ain't Heavy
He's Mai's Brother
Participants: Darius Baer, Nael Devlin (personal NPC), Isla 'Red' Raye (personal NPC), Jarad Bathrild (Hopetoun NPC), Kerik and Mai (flavour NPCs)
Brief description of thread: In response to this challenge, Darius travels to Almund via Scalvoris Town to seek out Kerik and to help him out of his situation. The brewer has found himself with an order that he can't fulfil, and Darius and those with him help him to not upset his short-tempered customer.
Settlement Resources Used: Intended Changes:See this guide.
  • A new group of people are able and willing to join the settlement. (Kerik, brewer extraordinaire). (+1 population, -1% order.)
  • The player completes an action that proves they are trustworthy to the settlers. (Although this solved a problem, I felt this didn't meet the threshold of it being a problem that the settlement was facing. As opposed to helping out a problem that a settler was facing.) (+1% order.)
  • The player discovers a way to process a primary resource their settlement collects into a useful item, and instructs settlers on how to make it themselves. (This doesn't feel like an exact depiction of what happened, but it seemed closest. The challenge speaks of a new brew being made out of Faldrass Potatoes with the brewer setting up shop in Hopetoun.) (+20WP, include the resource in their Secondary Resources section of the settlement profile.)
 ! Message from: Peg
Accepted. As a result of this, Hopetoun has gained
  • +1 population (now 79)
  • No change to Order as the +1 and -1 even out. (remains at 64)
  • +20 WP (now 130WP)
  • Secondary Resource: Brewery.

Re: Hopetoun

Thread: Death And...
Participants: Darius Baer and the settlers of Hopetoun
Brief description of thread: Darius realises he can't fund the settlement by himself and imposes a tax. OOC, it was discussed that a tax rate of 10% might be a fair representation of what the average Scalvorian pays, as well as being more manageable in a mechanical sense.
Settlement Resources Used: Intended Changes:See this guide.
  • The player sets up a useful service in their settlement, such as a bank or insurance broker, and instructs settlers on how to run this service themselves. (This was just a best guess, to be honest! I think there should be an effect of a 10% tax rate - comparable to the standard Scalvorian tax rate - in Hopetoun. This may also impact order slightly.)
 ! Message from: Pegasus
Accepted. As a result of this thread Hopetoun has gained the following:
  • A 10% taxation rate in Hopetoun.
  • With Hopetoun having 130 WP, this would entitle Darius to claim +13WP for himself on job threads.
  • -5% order (now 59%) ~ this would have been -10 but was mitigated by 4% due to Darius' Leadership skill and +1% due to this thread.

Re: Hopetoun

Thread: Brew And Bar Between
Participants: Darius Baer, Kerik (Hopetoun NPC), Mai (flavour NPC), Serena Dhunen (Hopetoun NPC)
Brief description of thread: Darius gets asked to taste test some beers that Kerik has brewed using Faldrass potato. Darius decides on his favourite, and that becomes known as Baron's Brew.
Settlement Resources Used: Intended Changes:See this guide.
  • The player discovers a way to process a primary resource their settlement collects into a useful item, and instructs settlers on how to make it themselves. (+20WP.
Include the resource in their Secondary Resources section of the settlement profile.)
  • An City NPC in the settlement assists the settlement leader in a way that would lead to them developing a skill they possess. (+ XP to the City NPC, depending on the extent of their contribution.) (This relates to Kerik for his brewing efforts.)
  • An increase in order, but I'm not sure by how much. (I can't see anything in the guide that seems like a good match, but am referring to the Settlement Guide which - under the Order section - states: "Being safe, reasonably wealthy and healthy is enough to maintain order at the beginning, but as the settlement grows bigger people will inevitably start to desire more: entertainment, culture and greater freedoms." I would think having a new beer that is unique to Hopetoun would tick the 'entertainment' and 'culture' boxes?
Additional Notes: Kerik has now been dev'd as a settlement NPC. He was added to the Hopeful Inn location.
 ! Message from: Peg

Accepted. As a result of this, Hopetoun has gained:
  • + 20 WP (now 150)
  • New Secondary Resource: Baron's Brew
  • +1 to Order (Darius can be trusted to provide) (now 60%)
  • Kerik gains +5 to his Brewing Skill.
  • Effect: Camaraderie: Due to the collaborative nature of how the Baron's Brew came about and the importance of the Faldrass Potato to the settlers, this adds to the sense of community in Hopetoun. The people of Hopetoun are happy and any conflict or disagreement is more likely to be settled over a mug of Baron's Brew. Furthermore, it leads to the Hopeful Inn becoming the "hub" of the community.

Thread: I Walk The Line
Participants: Darius Baer, Lars (Settlement NPC), Marvin (Barony NPC)
Brief description of thread: Darius, Lars, and Marvin set about making the road between Smooglenuff Manor and Hopetoun safer. They do this by repairing part of the road, finding a place of shelter for future travellers, and fighting off some bandits. This should (in theory) result in safer travel between the manor and the settlement, and add a degree of security to both locations.
Settlement Resources Used:
  • None...?
Intended Changes:See this guide.
  • The player completes an action that directly protects the settlers from harm. (Does not stack with the above action.) (+3% order.)
 ! Message from: Peg

Accepted. As a result of this, Hopetoun has gained:
  • +3 Order (Order now 66%)
  • Effect: All Roads Lead to Hope: The roads which have been built both by Hopetoun and the Smooglenuff Barony connect the two and make travel both more efficient and safer for Hopetoun residents and visitors alike. As a result, Hopetoun is more likely to get visitors.

Thread: The Unboxing
Participants: Darius Baer, Saoire
Brief description of thread: Darius and Saoire have a bit of a catch up. Saoire invites Darius to open his gift, while the settlement leader shows his desire to do whatever is best for the settlers. Unsure if this is above the threshold, as it's not a 'public' setting, but it shows that Darius is trustworthy and wants to do what's best for the settlement and those who live in it.
