Plot Notes Request

Melrath Plot Notes Request

Hey there gang! So after talking with some players I wanted to post up a thread where you guys can really easily get access to moderator input on Melrath based plots. That way you don't have to track down myself or another local Prophet and hash things out in private. It can all be done right here in this thread and available for everyone to see. The plan is that you guys can come here and request/suggest a Melrath based plot you'd like to self-mod. These would be specifically plots that you maybe are unsure about or because you know they will have a big impact on the region. We want you all to feel super comfortable changing Melrath via your IC actions! Player impact is so important, it keeps a place fresh and ever changing. :D So I'm going to break down the kinds of things you might request and below that I'll be putting a basic Plot Note Request Form up for anyone to fill out any time you want mod input/approval on a Melrath plot. I'll also be posting below a "Getting Started Form" for players who need help getting into the region.

What can you do here?
  • Request help getting your character settled into the region (This isn't always easy, but we are here to help!)
  • Ask to run a self modded moderate or high impact plot. (This way we can figure out the details. ;) )
How do I get started?
  • If you know what you'd like your character to do then fill out the Plot Note Request Form below.
Give us some detail on what you'd like to do and what kind of impact you think it should have. We will respond as quickly as possible and provide you with plot notes as well as final approval if everyone is happy with everything. I'm going to try and contain all conversations to this thread but if it gets unwieldy this will probably be moved to it's own sub-forum so things can be handled similar to the PSF.
  • If you are just starting in Melrath and you need help getting into the area let us know! We can take a look at your character and give suggestions as well as plot notes to help you get started! Please fill out a Getting Started Form below.

Plot Note Request Form:
Character Name:
Resident or Visitor: (This will help us gauge how the locals feel about you and how they may react)
Your Suggested Plot: (Let us know what you would like to do here, or at least the general direction you would like to go. Do you want to spy on a a high ranking Melrathi noble? Maybe try and oust a Jarl and replace them? Or perhaps you are really feeling the itch to burn Fensalir to the ground? Everything is game, just ask and we can help guide you. But at least try and have an idea that you want to use.)
Possible Impact: (Let us know what you think the impact of this plot would be on Melrath.)

Re: Plot Notes Request

For Dosan:
Since you requested these plot notes earlier:

"Upon entering Melrath Dosan soon learns the law pertaining to mages in that all mages who stay in Melrath for an extended period must be tested and issued a Mage's Mark by the Aesir. This is to ensure that magic users are considered safe enough to be exposed to the public, it also allows local Melrathi to know when a mage is in their midst. However Dosan has little interest in allowing a faction such as the Aesir the chance to identify him. So he attempts to evade them.

Several trials after entering Melrath, Dosan is abducted in the night by Aesir Shamans. There may also be Skadiri soldiers present to assist. These men and women are specalists in handling and tracking rogue mages. He is placed in paradigm cuffs (which cut of access to the Spark) and the situation is plainly explained to him. He must be tested and given his mark or he will be either exiled or killed. There is to be no negotiation. They explain to him that mages are not illegal in Melrath, infact they would rather he find a place where he can fit in and use his skills for the betterment of the nation if he intends to stay. So an offer is extended. Dosan may join the Aesir, specifically the Shaman branch himself, gain his mages mark and serve as a mage hunter in his own right.

If this all goes well and he makes it through initiation and obtaining his mage's mark Dosan will also be placed as an Aesir to work with one of the Great Noble Houses. (You said you wanted either Gofrith or Magnus, you can pick) He will be permitted to have access to some of that House's resources as well as a simple set of quarters to reside in at their estate. While there he will be expected to study either spycraft or the arcane arts (Depending on the house) and use those skills to track down rogue mages across Melrath. He may also from time to time be asked by members of his host House to help them with personal tasks. Such as working with spirits or even working as a personal mage/bounty hunter. The Aesir are by no means pure and incorruptible. They often work in partnership with the Houses in order to have access to their resources while also performing personal tasks for the nobles who are hosting them."

So this should help Dosan kinda find his bearings and a place to work while in Melrath. Let me know if anything here does not work for you. This plot is considered approved. You can get started!

Re: Plot Notes Request

For North:
Requested on Sept 06, 2019. viewtopic.php?p=128617#p128617

Mentor plotline. 6 solo threads.
-Thread with Sebastian explaining family expectations and concerns. He thinks North is mature enough to learn the family trade but wants affirmations about loyalties. This goes well.
-Thread where Sebastian teaches North more Alchemy. Talks about Attunement as a useful tool for this.
-Thread where Sebastian requests North to undergo Attunement initiation. Initiation happens.
-Thread where Sebastian teaches North more about Attunement. Asks him to develop his skill. Shows him some information on wells and explains he needs North to acquire some for him.
-Thread where North gathers wells.
-Thread returning the wells, North is taught more about their functions and uses.

Keep in mind the reference from the wiki on Sebastian's personality and skills:

Skills: Alchemy 250 (Master), Transmutation 240 (Master), Discipline 235 (Master),Research 230 (Master), Meditation 230 (Master), Politics 220 (Master), Business Management 210 (Master), Smithing 200 (Master), Chemistry 200 (Master), Attunement 140 (Expert) Intelligence 110 (Expert), Strength 50 (Competent), Endurance 40 (Competent)

Personality: Sebastian is friendly enough with most people and tries his best to be pleasant in public but he does have an air of arrogance to him around those who are avoid scholarship and study. Most of the time there is a secretive smile on his lips when forced to converse with someone who he considers lacking in intellect. Known openly as a talented mage, alchemist, and scientist many across Melrath respect the man, albeit distantly.

Sebastian is regarded a mysterious man, who speaks little unless he cares to actually discuss a topic. Such is the way with many of the members of House Magnus.

And the general reputation of House Magnus:

House Magnus: House Magnus is perhaps the smallest of the Houses although they are no less important when compared with the rest. This family is considered perhaps the oddest of the Houses as they delve into the world of alchemy and ensorcelling. Many of their members are also publicly known to be mages of some skill. The Magnus House is the greatest source of alchemical and ensorcelled goods within the nation. Some suggest that they are in truth the wealthiest House, though they would never brag about this due to their notably soft spoke nature. The Magnus family is known to keep to themselves and rarely get involved with politics unless it suits their needs. Their emblem is that of a serpent.
 ! Message from: Strange
Notes: Keep in mind that ensorcelling isn't fully available as a skill yet for active play.

Also, consider that magic initiations are meant to be dangerous and risky so for a father to risk his son should be included in some way of how the choice is described. However, it is also possible that Sebastian's privately expressed arrogance extends to his son's potential abilities.

Enjoy and have fun!

Re: Plot Notes Request

Hi Oracle / Strange,

I'm looking to have Brent play a larger role in the Alivilda community by using a mix of his cartography skills and developing some construction/leadership skills.

Plot Note Request Form:
Character Name: Brent
Resident or Visitor: Resident
Your Suggested Plot: Part 1: The Alivilda Aesir is worried about the village's defence against raids, etc. Brent offers to map out the current status of the village and look for areas to improve their fortifications and defence scheme. (When I say 'fortifications', think low stone walls or large timber stakes fitted closely together to form a wooden palisade-type wall). **Started solo here, hope I didn't cross any lines with playing the Alivilda Aesir.
Part 2: Brent, with the help of Ted (Brent's brother who knows some construction & woodworking), organize a team of villagers to improve or tighten up the current village defences.
Possible Impact: The construction of a more unified defence system for the village.

Note, Part 2 will likely happen in the next cycle. I'm not sure what's in store for the "Dead" plot. Hopefully even if there's some chaos, that there's an opportunity to protect the village with fortifications (and save the harvest).

Will look at this sometime this week and get back to you. So far, looks good though.

Hi Brent,

All of this looks great and is approved. I'm sure Alivilda would be happy to have a better defense system for the village.

Please place any relevant threads to this plot in the Hot Cycle Plot Tracker and when the Cold Cycle comes, then in that Plot Tracker so that the status of Alivilda's defenses are kept up to date.

PM me if you have any questions or concerns.

Plot Note Request Form:
Character Name: Jasper
Resident or Visitor: Resident
Your Suggested Plot: Want to join in the dead Prophet plot among the Aesir, including being part of the Aesir processing that takes him to his pyre on the mountains.
Possible Impact: If Jasper finds evidence that the man was killed and it was being covered up, it would affect his own internal belief strongly. Depending on the context he might also might make it more public.

Re: Plot Notes Request

Plot Note Request Form:
Character Name: Abra
Resident or Visitor: Resident
Your Suggested Plot: Introducing Abra, a mage in his twenties who only joined the Skadiri so he would have an outlet for using Empathy without breaking the law. Over the last cycle he became stronger and he shows signs of growing still. One of the few other Skadiri mages is even working on initiating Abra into Necromancy in secrecy (this will probably be done before this plot gets addressed).

Some in the Skadiri think he could be a valuable weapon and some think he needs to be sent to the Syns before he gets out of control. Would the Syns even want him? Or would it be better to put him down?

The plot would revolve around getting transferred to the Syns through a method of the story teller's choosing.
Possible Impact: The decisions could cause some internal struggles in the Skadiri, particularly among mages. If Abra loses an outlet for his magic he will no doubt turn to using his magic on civilians.
The public probably won't feel too good about having a psychological torturer wandering the streets if the word gets out.

A Strange Plot
Image

Hi Jasper,

As an Aesir, Jasper can join in, but in a specific way...

He can request to be part of the funerary group - however, he would be denied if asking on an individual basis due to the sheer number of individual requests from Aesir to be part of it (The Prophet Espen Kjarr was commonly beloved among the Aesir).

However, Jasper's magic mentor Eadric could request to go (or be assigned to go) as a loremaster to help record the story for future generations. Through this, Eadric can choose to bring Jasper along to help/assist him. They will both need to be in contact with Raelia to make these requests, ideally in Raelia due to things happening very quickly.

Eadric and Jasper can find out about the death late on the 78th through Aesir networks.

The party that travels to the highest mountain peak (that can be feasibly reached by humans) will be about 30-40 Aesir, and only Aesir as it will be considered a spiritual journey and incredible honor to be part of a ritual burning of the prophet's body (a rare event).

About 10 Aesir from surrounding areas will join the party along the way. So by the mountain, the party will be roughly around 50 Aesir. The sort of thing that can be told to great-grandchildren for immense respect, so this is another reason why there were so many requests and Jasper should consider himself fortunate to be included and likely grateful to Eadric for the chance. However you'd like to play that.

Along the way from Raelia to Ymir's mountain, there will be constant spirits of anak and diri that'll follow them along. The entire journey will go through Ashara Citadel, down south of Vynmur river, and through Vorkund (where Espen Kjarr was born, so the villagers will be very helpful and positive and in grief/mourning of the loss).

Overall, the journey from Raelia to the burial pyre should take roughly 6-8 trials due to slow walking for people to honor Prophet Kjarr and then the dangerous hike up the snowier parts of the mountain.

For the first trial, in Ashara Citadel, there will be about 3-5 ghosts that bother the Aesir. Ghosts of Melrathi and deceased Aesir members.

OPTIONAL SUBPLOT
If you'd like, Jasper can have an intense dream in which Espen Kjarr speaks to him directly for a short time and tells him that the Dead have been lurking among Melrath, unable to cross, but that in his death he will be solving that through a deal with the Induk, Ymir. If Jasper has this dream, he will awaken with a small baby bird near his sleeping spot. Espen Kjarr will have told Jasper that he must escort that bird to the mountain, to not lose the bird or have the bird die in the journey.

When he arrives to the mountain, he will have an actual visit from the ghost of Kjarr on the night before the burial ritual. Eadric can witness this or not. Kjarr will inform Jasper that he needs to set the bird in the pyre flames as Kjarr's corpse burns.

If Jasper follows this instruction, and sets the bird in the fire: Please contact me for a modded interaction at that point.

If Jasper does not follow this plot line, doesn't set the bird in the fire, or doesn't have the dream (he will not meet the ghost on the mountain if he doesn't also have the dream and receive the bird), then he observes the burial rite and nothing in particular happens.

The burial will involve an opulently decorated pyre and it is the highest pyre that exists in Melrath. From the vantage point, Jasper will be able to see almost all of Melrath, limited only by the point of the horizon. He is able to travel his way back down, finds a fair amount of people (about 100-300) had followed from the villages to observe the burial.

As for evidence of murder/foul play, Jasper is unlikely to stumble across anything of this nature. If he asks around, the other Aesir will ward away such conversations stating caution and/or the will of the spirits. Such investigation will be treated as not trusting in the ways of the spirits and discouraged. He will find skepticism lacking in these other Aesir, though 3-4 of the loremasters might mention that Kjarr was in a special position being the Aesir representative on the Circle so it's a shame he is gone and still unknown who will replace him.

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns, but otherwise feel free to start and move forward with this plot as written here.

Re: Plot Notes Request

Plot Note Request Form:
Character Name: Victor Amielle
Resident or Visitor: Visitor
Your Suggested Plot: Victor Amielle, the younger brother of Stefan Amielle, the Lord of Lysoria, has spent the past couple of seasons travelling and trying to come to terms with the execution of his Aberrant lover. At the beginning of the Cold Cycle he finds himself in Melrath. The Fall of Emea has rendered him unable to use magic. His Spark has gone dormant.

He isn't sure if he minds.

Nowadays, he views magic rather ambivalently, as an addiction and as something that inevitably ends in tragedy, no matter which domain you practice.

Upon finding out that he needs to acquire some sort of paperwork if he wants to stay in Melrath for longer than a couple of trials, Victor approaches the authorities, having no desire to get in conflict with the law again as the last time ended in a catastrophe. He explains his somewhat unusual situation to them. Perhaps he is subconsciously looking for some sort of guidance, in a rather unlikely and somewhat dangerous place.

A mage who cannot practice magic anymore will likely confuse the authorities and raise a few interesting questions. I’d like to explore what happens in such a situation, how the authorities react and what they will do. I’m open to pretty much anything.

Possible Impact: The authorities learn something new about magic?
