Screams
of death and agony echoed as Dosan, Argo, and group C closed in on the where Bartold and group D had went. The fools thought they could take this beast down on their own, all because their pride felt threatened. They were fools, and part of the viper didnt really want to save them, but the plan needed to succeed. That meant he had to go and rescue them, even if he didnt want to. The scene he walked into was grisly, even for his taste. Though he couldnt help but find the Lyrosaur beautiful, mesmerized by its appearance. The golden shimmer of its scales, the sheer primal power it exuded. Dosan was, for those initial moments, enthralled by the creature.
The death throes of Group D brought him out his awe-stricken state, however, and he hit the floor as one of the ithecal was sent flying past him. There was an audible snap from where the lizardman landed but no movement. Dosan watched as Bartold and Group D held their own. It was a failing attempt but an admirable one nonetheless.
The Lyrosaur was in no mood for them however, the beast thrashing about, making short work of those that attacked it. Many were sent flying with a flick of its tail, while the most unfortunate ones were blasted by the lightning it shot from its mouth. Argo and Group C arrived not too long after Dosan, and the Lothar cursed as he saw Bartold and the others.
"We need to save them and lure it back to the ambush point."
he said breaking into a sprint, channeling Jumper's ability leaping up into the trees. He had to find a way to get the big lizards attention away from the other so Argo could get Bartold and the others to safety. He decided to be drastic, after all, if he got injured he could just use chrysalis later and heal. Leaping from the tree he was perched in, he landed and rolled over to where the large lizard's tail was grabbing on to it. His constrictor gripped tightened around the beast tail, which made it look back to see what was latched onto it.
"Go now! while I have it distracted!"
he shouted, hoping the others would head his words. The Lyrosaur lifted him and began to flail its tail about to get the viper off of it. Luckily for Dosan that grip and his adhering limbs allowed him to hang on. That wasn't to say the thrashing wasn't doing its job. Several slams against the rainforest floor and Dosan had no choice but to let go. Rolling away from the creature he coughed up blood, looking to the beast. The spines on its back began to light up, just like when it first shot the lightning breath. As he struggled to get to his feet he could see and feel the beast approaching the spine growing in their light. By the time he was on his feet the Lyrosaur was within blasting range of Dosan and the viper was prepared to take the blast.
Luckily for him, Bartold came in warcry and all, laying his spearhead into the beast's leg, which made its head turn to Bartold. Unfortunately for his bravado the poor man took the full weight of the lightning blast and was killed on the spot. Argo came from the Beast blind spot, picking Dosan up and running. The Lothar, viper and what remained of Group D high tailed it back to where the ambush site was.
They could hear the pounding of massive footsteps gaining on them as they neared the ambush site. Looking up, Dosan could see the giant lightning lizard closing the distance on them, its strides long and powerful, the thunder of its steps heralding its approach and filling the viper for the first time with fear. His reptilian eyes widened when he could see the light on its back.
The clearing was just up ahead, but the viper didnt think they make it in time, and he was right. The beast unleashed a torrent of lightning from its mouth, devastating the path and sending the Lothar and viper soaring into some nearby trees. Argo seemed to be unconscious, and Dosan was in more pain than he would have liked to admit. But from where he was he watched as the beast sniffed the area.
I could have been smelling for them, but a more enticing scent caught its nose. With the sounds of it moving away Dosan got to his feet, limping behind it. It seemed to be heading to the clearing and moments later a loud and rumbling crashed filled the trees, spooking the birds and whatever other fauna was around.
He could hear the joyful cries of the warriors, coupled with the roar of the Lyrosaur.
"What are you all cheering for, the bastard is still alive!"
He barked! His tail began to etch something on his sword arm. He was filling it with ether, watching it come to life. It was the Rune of Strength.Unsheathing his longsword, he approached the pitfall with the beast in it. He got knocked back as the beast shot off a bolt of lightning at the edge of the pitfall. Getting back on to his feet he was ready to put an end to it. The viper forced his way to the edge of the clearing. Upon that ledge, he peered down on to the beast with a devilish smirk, and with a leap, he was several meters in the air above it.
His longsword in his hand he came down upon the Lyrosaur as it looking up at the incoming threat. Both the viper and the beast roared at each other. Only one beast could come out the victor of this.......and as fates would have it, it was Dosan. Sadly he lost his arm in the mouth of the lyrosaur who bit it clean off. Dosan returned that wound by driving his blade right above the creature's eye.
With the force from the rune of strength, the impact alone brought the massive lizard to the ground. Dosan let out a blood-curdling scream from the loss of his left arm but removed his blade from behind the beast eye only to drive it into its skull, fighting against the dense bone till broke under the repeated stabs and rested inside the beast's brain.
With that Lyrosaur gave one last withering roar and fell silent. It was over. Dosan had killed the ultimate prey and fell to the floor as he lost to much blood from losing his left arm. He fell onto the dead lizard falling unconscious.
Breaks later, the viper found himself back in Kephallonia, the sounds of celebration and merriment in the air. His whole body ached as he realized his injuries were too much to move. So he used that good ole chrysalis ability. Closing his eyes, he envisioned himself before the battle and filled his body with ether. In moments he lifted himself out of his old skin, forming a crystalline figure of the old armless self on the bed. Covering himself in the blanket on the bed he ventured out to see what was going on.
There he was greeted by Argo, who hoisted him onto his shoulders. In the center of the town was the Lyrosaur, a large party being held in honor of the beast and the braves souls who had slain it.
Dosan received praise and adoration, but none of that mattered to him, he only wanted one thing. Moving over to the beast's corpse, he took one of the knives on a nearby table and began to make a totem from the beast. Using the flesh as a string, he fashioned a new necklace, this one made from the teeth and flesh of the Lyrosaur. soaking it in the beast cold blood.
Argo had been watching the viper as he worked, intrigued by what he was doing but never really voicing anything. When Dosan was satisfied with what he had made, he turned to leave, but Argo blocked him off. "Come on now, no need to be anti-social kid, you are the reason we are celebrating. If it wasn't for you we would still be living in fear of the Lyrosaur. For that, we thank you Dosan. Now come on and enjoy yourself."
Dosan looked at all the people getting drunk, having fun and enjoying themselves.
"I guess I have no choice huh?"
he inquired, looking to Argo who shook his head no. With a shrug, Dosan decided that he could enjoy this victory, while it lasted.
