Re: News & New Features!

The Big Character Wiki Update - Update!!!

Hello all!
If you're not wiki confident - there is a guide on how to use it! Here!.
Previously... (on the Big Character Wiki Update)
Peg wrote: We're trying to get all Character Wiki's up to date. If you can / would - please check your Character Wiki and then this thread and put any amendments / updates in it. We're working really hard, behind the scenes, to get all Character Wikis sorted (we've done A - J) but we need your help to identify issues. So please - let us know what is not correct / not there for your Character Wiki.

If you don't have a Character Wiki yet - please post to that thread with a link to your Player Secrets and your CS - we'll take it from there. If, over the next few weeks, you find that we're PMing you to ask for info - please be gentle. We are just trying to fill in gaps. If you're not sure whether you should post in the update thread, whether it's worth doing? Post it! I'd rather say "Nah, we don't need it" than have to say "I wish we had".

So - an update here.
1. We have done Round 1. This means that
a) all 169 Character Wikis have been checked, tidied up, and put in the correct "Categories" by myself and the Wiki Workers. We have checked the Categories are correct for the information that is already on the wiki

b) We created Racial categories and all pcs are now in the correct Racial Category (this will appear as "Eidisi PCs" at the very bottom of your wiki) - and on the wiki, you can have a look at all the other PCs of your race. This is a subcategory of the Race itself on the left hand menu so- find your race, click the little blue arrow, and it'll give you a place to go and look at all the others!

c) We've added in "PCs with Higher Education" as a Category, and this is now part of the PC Achievements stuff.

d) all the "click on this header for more information" formatting is gone. It was confusing and made the Table of Contents unusable.

e) I've created templates for staff to use when approving CSes and PSF tickets which should (I hope!) mean that Character Wikis are formatted in a more consistent manner going forward. They're in "Wiki Templates" if you want to look. It's a work in progress but all the new-pc stuff is done, and I'm working through a template or two a day.

2. We are now looking at PC Magic. There are 48 Character Wikis in the Category of "Mage PCs" and we're going through each one of them and tidying up how mutations are done. Each PC with magic will now have a link on their Character Wiki - under "Magic & Mutations" which links to a single page. That page will have all your PC mutations in one place.

3. After Magic, it'll be Renown, Skills, Inventions, Discoveries.

So, I'm going to ask again. Please check your Character Wiki and then this thread and put any amendments / updates in it. We're working hard to get this done, but information and links really helps us. We are NOT ignoring it, we just want to get the whole "structure" in place, so we can then test putting existing pcs on the wiki using the new templates.

To be clear - one of the aims of this is to demonstrate some of the truly remarkable achievements of our PCs on this site. There are so many, and they could go un-noticed if we don't put them in the forefront. We have PCs doing big wars, massive plotlines, but that's not really what I mean. Those are great - but also I want the inventions, the discoveries, the pc who creates a magic technique by exploding (!), the invention of a new game, the person who was involved in this plot, did that, etc.

So - once we have all the skills / abilities / marks / etc stuff done - I'm going to be asking you to link stories for me. Not yet (we'd get overwhelmed, it's already a big job) - but something for you to think about.

As always - any questions, drop me a PM! I'm just going to end by giving a shout out to our Prophets, Peer Reviewers and Wiki Workers - the people who volunteer their time to make this site run. If you meet the requirements, consider applying. Just two reviews a week, or one hour of wiki work - those can and do make a difference. As a community, this place is great. Keep telling great stories, stay safe! Thanks! <3

The Fourth Annual Holiday Event Is Here!!
Despite the chill of the night and the impending darkness of Cylus, Zi’da is a season filled with celebration and hope. The cool night air brings families together before a warm fire to tell stories. Various traditions have developed over time with emphasis on family including the lighting of special heritage candles, gathering in temples to offer thanks to patron Immortals, great feasts, and the occasional exchange of thoughtful gifts. Periods of time, or a single night, are spent honouring this idea of unity, friendship, and family.

Parents tuck their children into bed the night before these celebrations with promises of sweets and trinkets to play with come morning. It is this hope that has crafted some of the most enchanting stories about one beautiful, generous woman. These stories have multiplied over arcs with little agreement on how she looked and acted. It was the children that helped give her life. Their dreams portrayed an image of a young woman decorated with bright baubles and theatrical jewelry. She had glittering eyes that shined with life, and her face always carried a smile. She was capable of casting magic that appeared as glitter dust from her palms. Ponies, dancers, soldiers, and various other magical things would be made from this glitter dust, dancing around the scenes the young dreamers made.

Image
Myths of Saoire’s creation has circulated throughout Idalos. One thing is for certain: She is a humanoid creation of Emea that is capable of entering the physical world for a short time each arc - but more and more people believe that she is, in fact, one of the Immortals. Sightings of her are spoken of during Zi’da. She is a thin woman with pale skin. Her hair is always neatly tucked up beneath a crown that changes with each appearance. Sometimes, her head is adorned with glistening orbs of varying colours or small parcels that she will take down to give to a small child. Other times, the bristles of the fir tree branches are decorated with red holly berries, vibrant fruits, and pinecones. Her arrival to an area is always accompanied by the smell of warmth, spices, and juniper. She is quick to arrive and quick to disappear, providing gifts and wisdom to those that she visits.

Once the celebrations come to an end, Saoire steals herself back to Emea to watch the mortals of Idalos - her children - with anticipation of her next visit. New stories are generated of her to share the following arc. This season provides a glimmer of light in a world often too overwhelmed with fear, war, and dismay.

Knowing what we know.....

Hello all!

A new guide is published today on Common knowledge. This is about what you can assume everyone knows on certain topics - and how difficult it is to learn certain things.

The purpose of this guide is to help, going forward, with ease of gameplay / writing. Enjoy!

ANNOUNCEMENT

Hello everyone!

The Becoming Rework and Update is now live on the Wiki!

The aim of this rework was to clarify and improve player opportunities and experiences with the magic. There are a lot of changes, so players who have characters with Becoming, please read thoroughly. For mechanics and playing, this rework can be considered a "going forward" change rather than a retroactive change. Story is open for players to figure out what that means for their characters. If needing help, please PM a staff member.

Here is a quick overview of some of the larger changes:
  • The categorization of families has changed, and restrictions lifted around certain families.
  • OOC Requirements are now detailed on the page, overall and per technique.
  • Totems have been clarified and explained. A section has been added about Totem Traits specifically.
  • Self-Totems have been reworked to be harmonized upon Initiation (read Self-Totem and Initiation for details).
  • Reproduction and Death for Becomers has been reworked.
  • A new technique called “Transform” (based on the basis of Becoming transformations) has been added to Novice Tier.
  • The Technique “Devour” has been removed.
  • The Mimai Write-up has been removed.
  • A new Technique called “Feed” (based on the Flaying Specialization that Becomers had) has been added to Expert Tier.
  • The experimental Specialization and Well abilities have been removed.
  • Initiation for Becomers has been reworked and includes a new magical link between Mentor and Initiate.
  • There are different restrictions to a few of the techniques (notably, check Chrysalis).
  • Further clarification has been given to several techniques.
If you have any questions, please post on the specific Becoming Rework Q&A thread located in the PSF here.

Re: News & New Features!

Updating Races, Immortals & Starter Information.....

Hello all!

A few updates for you!

Races: Eidisi
The Eidisi didn't have the detail on what their Multilinguistic starting ability is. That's been included now.

Races: Mer
The Mer Starter Pack has been placed in the Mer write-up.

Races: Tunawa
The Tunawa Starter Pack has been placed in the Tunawa write-up

Races: Yludih
We're undertaking to update / provide clarity on all our PC races. Therefore, each race is going to have "Player Notes" added to their write up. This will consist of specific OOC information to help you play the race. We've started with Yludih, probably our most complex race, and I'm delighted to say that the Player Notes for Yludih are now on the wiki!.

We're moving on to the next race now!!

Immortals: Treid
Has been updated to include that he's awake / restored.

Immortals: Yvithia
Has been updated to include that Treid is awake.

Immortals: All
Each race has a list of what the Immortals opinions on them are. So - to make sure that information is clear in both places, each Immortal now has a "Racial Opinions" section. So far, it's just got Yludih, but we'll put the race in as we do them.

Also - for your ease of use, we've added "Useful Links" to each Immortal Write-Up. These are at the bottom of the write-up, and they have links to the following information.
  • The Immortal Mark
  • Mortalborn of the PC
  • PCs who have been blessed by the Immortal
  • PCs who have been cursed by the Immortal
  • Stories which have particularly involved the Immortal
Each of these is a link and leads you to the appropriate information.

Starter Information
Finally - the information on how we approve CSes etc has been updated and is now here

A plea!
Two of them, actually!

1. Have you updated us on anything missing in your Character Wiki? Please do so here
2. We're always on the look out / needing more Peer Reviewers and Prophets. Please consider helping the site out in that way. Information here. Thanks!
That's all for today! Tell great stories, have fun!

Wiki Workers Working Wildly!!!!

Hello all!

The Wiki Workers are a small group who are (slowly but steadily) working on getting our Wiki sorted. Now, in fairness there is a LOT of info on there, and it should also be noted that the Wiki is, in fact, the old "Knowledge Base" as was, and has been ported over from the old site - then it's been added to without a serious overview over the last few years.

So. It's in need of some love. Therefore, some time ago, we set up the "Wiki Workers" group. We've had a few false starts of what to do, but we decided that Character Wikis was the way to go as a) it impacts everyone equally and b) it allows us to really focus on players and PCs. We've been working behind the scenes and have made lots of additions (from putting dates of birth in the same format to using the same templates and changing up structure).

I'm really pleased to announce that we are now at the point of having a functioning Repository of PCs. That page is an index for a number of other pages which "sort" our Character Wikis in different ways. Do you want to see examples of Grandmaster PCs? Perhaps you want to have a look at some PCs marked by particular Immortals or who practice certain types of magic. It's all there!

We're continuing to work on the Wiki - this is really just the beginning, but it's a great one. So, I want to give a shout out to the Wiki Workers who've helped with this - it's really useful. We're continuing to plug away - and I hope that it's useful to all. That said - I'm going to continue with, as before - A plea!

Two of them, actually!

1. Have you updated us on anything missing in your Character Wiki? Please do so here. We want to know about it! The purpose of this part of the wiki is to celebrate our PCs. Lets do that!

2. We're always on the look out / needing more Peer Reviewers, Wiki Workers and Prophets. Please consider helping the site out in that way. Information here. Thanks!

Thanks all - hope you're having fun and telling fantastic stories!

Re: News & New Features!

New Forum!

Hello all!

Following a number of discussions involving players of all roles, we have decided as a team to formalise and centralise the Guest Storytelling system. To this end, we've created a new forum for it, with clear guidelines and rules. Story Central is where you can go to ask for Guest Story Telling via the "Wanted Ads" and / or to sign up to be a Guest Storyteller.

There's also a new Profile Field - the PC "Storybook" - this will form an integral part of the playerbase's ability to say what the would wish for from storytelling, be it GSTs or mods. That's a subforum of the Story Central forum and is explained fully there.

There isn't one person I can credit with this - it's an amalgamation of passing comments, serious discussions, votes, and lots in between. However, it pulls together something we've always done - but gives it a place to be and, hopefully, means that more of us will use it.

Any questions, don't hesitate!!

Hey guys, have you looked at the point bank lately? Is there anything you'd like from it, or anything that you'd want to add? We're always open to suggestions for new items: here.

If you're at a loss for how to earn point bank, there's a juicy new method called GSTing that's now more open to players than ever before. With the advent of the Storybook and Story Central forums, we've rolled out a point bank reward for GSTing. For GSTing a single thread for your fellow players, you may claim 50 point bank points total.

So go on out there and help your fellow players tell fantastic stories!
