Returning Role!
After a discussion and vote, the volunteer team have decided to bring back the Advocate role. Their remit has changed from their functioning previously. There will be 1 "Standing Trials" account which is the Advocate account. The Welcome PM will come from that account - and any warnings or interventions will be unanimously decided between them, and appeals will be considered by them. It's important to note that they won't be engaging on Discord with anything regarding the Advocate role, and we ask players to respect that. Communication with and by them will be via that account.

For transparency, we have 4 advocates - 1 Team Lead (Bas) , 1 Prophet (Munchkin) , 1 Wiki Worker (Darius) , 1 Peer Reviewer (Jackalope).

Renown Revamp!
After a long discussion among the volunteer team, we've added some items to renown rewards and improved a few. The Renown Guide has been updated.


This impacts Medium rewards in that it clarifies that the addition to skill points must be approved via the PSF

All Large rewards have had the following changes:

1. The group of faceless NPCs has been updated to make it an actual reward. This hadn't been changed since we stopped charging for NPCs, so this is to make this a worthwhile reward.
2. The skill increase has been changed to ranging from +3 to +6 and can be spread across 2 skills.
3. A seasonal wage bonus added.

These changes are NOT being implemented retroactively, so will apply only for PSF tickets going forward. Enjoy!

Hello all,

Alchemy is currently set to be rewritten/reworked. I've added notes to the top of the following sections of Alchemy:

Additional Areas of Alchemy
Blood Magic, Divine Magic, and Backlash

This is to make it clear that science, medicine, and attunement, while they might be helpful toward Alchemy as a skill, are not strictly required in order to perform blood magic. Instead, blood magic will only require skill for the level of spell, and specialized knowledge (named knowledges) pertaining to the spell or effect that one is implementing in their alchemy.

NPC Update!!!
Hi all!

We've had a staff vote and long discussion and clarified the rules for city NPCs who also have a personal relationship with a pc.

The following has been added to the City NPC page here

= A "Hybrid" City NPC =
Sometimes, a player will need to submit what would normally be a personal NPC as a City NPC. This will be an NPC with an existing relationship to the PC that has not been earned in RP; maybe a parent etc. If you are required to submit an NPC as a City NPC with a personal relationship to you PC, this is a "Hybrid City NPC". We are very cautious of over-restricting our players - however, if you need to request a Hybrid City NPC (this might be because of the Family Wealth system, for example - fundamentally, because this NPC is too powerful to be a fully personal NPC - then there are some rules to consider.

# You '''must''' make the relationship to your PC explicit in the development submission. Identify them as a "hybrid city NPC" . Mods needs to be clear what they are approving.
# The skills / skill level should be roughly the same as for a Personal NPC. If there is a reason for them to be higher (due to previous story etc) - then please make that case in your NPC submission. If you are submitting a noble / politician of a lot of experience - that's a good reason. However, if you're submitting something which simply benefits your pc, it is unlikely to be approved.
# The hybrid city NPC can not belong to a faction or be a mage or have an Immortal Mark. Please see specific rules for Mage Mentors and Apprentices, who this does not apply to.
# We have no wish to enforce restrictive universal limits on this kind of NPC because we realise that each NPC is different. If it makes sense for your NPC story, great. But if needed, then restrictions will be put in place on an individual player.

Note: If there's an existing NPC that should fit here but doesn't - pc's should PSF and we'll negotiate best way forward.

AFTERMATH


Yeah, we're not done with this yet. Ruin's Dawn had a lot of after-affects, and some of them will be echoing out for a while. None of this will be actively ongoing events in the same vein as Ruin's Dawn itself, but there will be plot nuggets and such to explore. So let's take a look at the aftermath of Ruin's Dawn.

Immortals

Factions: The anti-mortal faction has completely collapsed. As a result, the pro-mortal faction has disbanded. The Immortal War is at an end.

Individual Immortals:

Aelig - Aelig has been absorbed by the Ascension. His very essence is no more.

Aeva - Aeva's situation is mostly unchanged, but she had re-ignited the part of her Forge that once made anti-Dragon gear.

Ashan - Ashan's situation is largely unchanged, but his attention has turned towards the re-emerging spirits.

Audrae - Audrae is dead.

Belaera - Belaera has been absorbed by the Ascension. His/her very essence is no more.

Cassion - Cassion has been focused on recording the stories of the lost Immortals in the aftermath of their death, but he is looking forward to the new stories that will be told.

Chamdarst - Chamdarst has been looking forward to new commercial opportunities that could follow in the wake of end of the Immortal's War.

Chien - Chrien has been thinking of her mother, and what she would want from her.

Daia - Daia spent the immediate aftermath of Ruin's Dawn coping with the trauma of seeing Immortals die as she did, but she has rested and is looking forward to seeing the world without the factionalized infighting of her kin.

Delroth - Delroth has been praising himself for the wise decision of letting his daughter and one of his Blessed go through the events of Ruin's Dawn, and basking in the reflected glory of their success and their Dragonlings.

Edasha - Edasha has washed her hands of any further Immortal conflicts and now works alongside Drathaidir, aiding in the Dragon's preservation and collection of the world's beauty.

Ethelynda - Ethelynda's role in the revival of Dragons has been revealed to the rest of the Immortals, which has damaged her relationship with those who feared the return of Dragons. She is watching the reborn Dragons to see what they will do.

Faldrun - Faldrun is dead.

Famula - Famula has been pondering the return of the Dragons and the nature of draconic souls, but is otherwise enjoying the lessened work load that resulted from the deaths of most of the more malevolent Immortals.

Ilaren - Ilaren has been ruling her city and pondering what her further goals are now that Faldrun is dead.

Karem - Karem considers the seven deaths at Anox's Folly to be an unquestioned victory. She remains at Raskalarn's side as one of the leaders of The Eternal Empire. Karem's relationship with Valtharn was never that great and she has no personal concerns about facing the former Imperial Princess.

Kata - Kata has been absorbed by the Ascension. Her very essence is no more.

Lisirra - Lisirra is currently missing.

Mastes - Mastes has been absorbed by the Ascension. His very essence is no more.

Moseke - Moseke mourns the death of one of her sisters and the absence of another. Her relationship with Sintra has turned antagonistic, due to the latter's role in the absence of their sister Lisirra.

Pier & Pre - Pier and Pre have been conversing amongst themselves about whether the deaths at Anox's Folly and the return of the Dragons is a good thing or a bad thing. Otherwise, they continue their task as the judges of the dead.

Qylios - With the end of the Immortal's War, and the subsequent disbanding of the Pro-Mortal alliance, Qylios has been looking towards the future and deciding what role she will make for herself going forward.

Raskalarn - Raskalarn has been on edge following the ascension of her daughter to Immortal status, but otherwise has been keeping to her duties as the Empress of the Eternal Empire. She presents a calm face to the world at large, only allowing Karem to see how worried she is about what Valtharn has become.

Ralaith - Ralaith has been seeking to reconnect with Daia following her resurrection, but has not neglected his duty as a scholar.

Saoire - Saoire has been saddened following the deaths at Anox's Folly, but has continued her role as the head of the Saoire's Dream school at Scalvoris.

Sintra - Sintra has kept to the shadows, owing to the need to re-work many of her plans due to the deaths at Anox's Folly and Valtharn's ascension from Mortalborn to Immortal. She is also regrouping from her failure to conquer Etzos and her subsequent expulsion from the city.

Syroa - Syroa is dead.

Thetros - Thetros has lost the illusion that made him appear as an Immortal following Syroa's death. He has since gone missing.

Treid - Treid has been alternating between Treidhart and Viden, both leading his Eidisi and spending time with his love, Yvithia.

U'frek - U'frek has kept to his duties as the patron of ocean travel.

Unity - Unity appears to have gone missing following the damage Emea sustained during the events of Ruin's Dawn.

Valtharn - Valtharn has been training with her powers following her ascension to full Immortal. She still retains full control over her cult, however.

Vhalar - Vhalar has continued his usual business of attending to the seasons and overseeing the creation of binding oaths.

Vri - Vri has been much happier following his marriage to his Mortal love and has kept at his job over overseeing the dead.

Xiur - Xiur's role of bringing hope has become all the important to those like the Aukari, who have suffered heavily in the death of their patron Immortal.

Ymiden - Ymiden has been spending time with Moseke and working to cheer her up following the losses Moseke's family has sustained.

Yvithia - Yvithia has mellowed considerably following Treid's return. She has disbanded the FRA and is spending more of her time in active involvement with the governance of Viden.

Zanik - Zanik has been enjoying the relative freedom from torment that Kata and Faldrun's death represent, yet also mourns the loss of most of his siblings. He also mourns the loss of his lover, Syroa, though he is aware his life will be more peaceful for her loss.

Ziell - Ziell has been reconnecting with Daia and maintaining his watch over the seasons while enjoying the end of the Immortal's War.

Emea

As a result of the activation, and destruction, of the Ascension, Emea has been heavily changed and affected. The Dream World and the Immortal Realms remain in close metaphysical proximity to Idalos and can still be interacted with, but the afterlife, beyond, and the ability for inter-world travel (such as how the Originals arrived on Idalos) have been broken away from the Dream World and the Immortal Realms and can no longer be accessed by any IC powers. Unity has gone missing as a result of the damage.

Races

Aukari: Despite the existential despair felt in Sirothelle itself, Aukari outside of the city have found their inner flame is easier to control in Faldrun's absence.

Naer: The Naer are largely unchanged by Audrae's absence.

Lotharro: Lotharro are mostly unchanged, but with Thetros having been revealed as not being an Immortal, they are left with the question of who their creator is.

Cities

Sirothelle: Sirothelle is experiencing severe political and social turmoil as well as a societal sense of depression due to the loss of Faldrun. They are very nervous about the presence of Vindecaldra in the Heart of the World, but have unable to reach any kind of consensus regarding what to do about her.

Uthaldria: Uthaldria has been largely unaffected by Drathaidir's presence, though they did get a clear visual of her picking a fight with Abanaxus and easily trouncing the mobile mountain range. Abanaxus was forcefully relocated and put back to sleep by the Dragon. Edasha has also been more visibly present in the surrounding area since her partnership with Drathaidir.

Quacia: Quacia is experiencing religious and political turmoil in the wake of Deabrutoa's reveal as the Wounded God and subsequent imprisonment. The Cult of the Wounded God are struggling to regain control of the city in the wake of the King's rescue by Faith, Varlum, Padraig, and Jasper. Deabrutoa remains sealed, but is able to talk through the seal. Despite Famula's involvment, magic is still accepted in the city.

Rynmere: Rynmere has been almost entirely destroyed, culturally, due to the release of Artere. However, there has been very little structural damage or loss of life. Instead, the vast majority of the population has been pulled into the hive mind and rendered little more than an extension of Artere's will. A small percentage of the population escaped, as did the Jacadon and Volarean species, which fled the island as soon as Artere escaped the labyrinth.

Augiery: Augiery is experiencing some issues due to Audrae's death. While the Vices have maintained control of the city, there have been slave revolts as slaves seek to take advantage of Audrae's death. In addition, there is a city wide malaise amongst the Naer due to Audrae's death and some factionalization amongst the Vices due to the absence of Audrae's controlling influence over the Vices. Furthermore, Augiery's ability to raid the surrounding areas has been hampered by Kuvarakh's interference.

Yaralon: The Ghost Burho of Yaralon, as well as one of it's walls, was heavily damaged by Vielkrontier's awakening and departure from the city. The multi-headed Dragon is now roaming the area around the city, though this hasn't had much impact on life in the city, due to the Yari viewing him more as a challenge than a threat. Vielkrontier has made no aggressive action against the city, though anyone foolish enough to challenge him hasn't lasted long. Labrae and her children were forced to evacuate the Ghost Burho, and have taken up temporary residence in another part of Yaralon, though there's rumor that Labrae may take her children and leave for a less dangerous area.

Ongoing: In addition to the above effects, the six regions listed will be updated every cycle as part of an ongoing fallout. Players can PSF a request to get involved in the plots and potentially change the outcome.

The Dragons and Valtharn

Dragons have been added to the wiki, though not all of them are finished. So far, only Frosvinndur, Vindecaldra, and Deabrutoa are finished and on the wiki. I do apologize for the delay, but this whole thing is an intensive process and that's before IRL or things like PCing are taken into account. We are working on them, however.

Hey all,

We've had a slight edit to give our flavor NPCs that can be claimed from renown rewards, making it so that they can have at least enough xp for one competent skill. Nothing else about them has changed since the last addition to renown rewards.

Instead of spending x amount of skill points on between a level of 5-20 xp for a skill, they can have 5-30 for any skills so long as they have the skill points.

Crime Spree


Hello Everyone,

I have an idea for a new development project, but in order to do the very best job of it that I can I'd like to ask for all of your help.

There have been a number of players over the years who have wanted to engage with elements of the criminal underworld in their threads, either as a law enforcer or as a criminal themselves. Each city has its own major criminal factions, but these are very localised and do not have much interaction with other cities.

My intention is to create a "Crime Primer" (or Crimer for short) that contains a summarized guide of which major criminal families rule each city, how they do business, how they interact with each other, how strong their influence is, and what illegal services each of them specialise in. This would help players who want to interact with the criminal underworld on a more regular basis gain a broad understanding of how crime works on Idalos, and help them to play characters with underworld experience and contacts when setting up heists and crimes. The only problem is that there are a whole lot of threads on this site, and I don't have the time to sort through them all for any and all mentions of criminal gangs.

Therefor if you have ever encountered a currently active criminal organisation in a thread before, could you please send me a short PM about who this group is and where they are. These could be anything from black market traders, rebels, mafia families, assassin guilds or even pickpocket gangs. The only requirements are that they:
  • Are currently still active.
  • Are at least in some form motivated by monetary gain.
  • Are not officially sanctioned by the government of the city they are in.
