Cold Cycle 719 Calendar

Cold Cycle Calendar 719: Viden
Vha’lar:

Weather: 1st: The weather begins to cool off

60th: Freezing Fog begins to creep into the city. Citizens are encouraged to stay in doors as much as possible. The Fog lasts till mid afternoon before breaking apart.

120th: Snow begins to fall starting after daybreak. It continues lightly all day long.

Events:
1st: it is the first day of Vha’lar. The temperatures begin to dip into freezing after sundown.

11th-17th: Synnefa Festival: it is the stars that often shine the brightest in the darkest days and nights to descend upon Viden. The nature of the Northern Region means that the city enjoys exceptionally long days during the summer seasons, but it comes at a price: the winter brings very little natural daylight, and some days, the city will be greeted only by starlight to guide their way. For this, the city holds a celebration named in honour of the Immortal of Stars, to thank Xiur most fervently, and hold banquets in his honour. The celebration is an offering to him, as the Hot Cycle ends and the coldest and darkest days approach. The 11th day of Vhalar sees the beginning of the celebrations, which last for six days. Again, the city comes ablaze with fire, this time celebrating the light with which the Immortal of Stars blesses the citizens

50th: A mount race is held to have some fun before the weather turns for the worst. The starting line is at the city gates, the racers head down to Anther’s Etlyne. Upon arrival the racers have the chance to rest their mounts or take fresh ones to finish the race with. After deciding the racers will head back to Viden as the second half of the race.

100th: a group of Tanner Mantis are spotted in the distance by hunters. The guards express concern about any hunting being done until the group leaves. Fishing on the stable ice in the harbor is highly encouraged

123rd: the end of Vha’lar has arrived; the city is in the final preparations for Zi’da to begin

Zi’da:

Weather: 23rd: A snowstorm blows in from over the sea. The storm begins to intensify as the day progresses. Citizens are warned that a blizzard is likely to happen within the next several days.

24th-27th: As predicted the storm turns into a blizzard during the night and into the early morning. The blizzard lasts for three days. Once the storm breaks the sky remains overcast for the rest of the day.

Events:
1st: Sofíthia Festival (Celebration): Despite the almost fanatical loyalty to Yvithia, they do not often worship her in the traditional sense. A very practical Immortal, Yvithia is often found within the Facility for Retrospective Analysis, particularly in the underground sections. Those loyal to her seek her favour almost entirely through the learning of new knowledge. Only one holiday a year is in honor of Yvithia. On the first day of Zi'da each year, the city comes to a standstill. The doors of the libraries and universities are closed, and all, even slaves, are invited to abandon work and enjoy the festivities. After libations are offered to the Immortal of Intelligence, there is a public banquet, followed by private gift-giving, continual partying, and a carnival atmosphere that overturns the social norms of the city: gambling is permitted, and slaves may dine beside their masters. Bonfires are lit throughout the city, wasting precious fuel for the sake of frivolity, which symbolizes the quest for knowledge and truth. For only this day a year, the restrictions on drinking alcohol are lifted

20th: Ice caps are seen off the coast scattered all over the horizon. Ships find it difficult to make it to port to deliver cargo or to leave taking goods to other cities.

67th: Businesses and shops work on clearing snow from right in front of their doors so that patrons and clients can enter.

93rd: the last day of Zi’da the city prepares for the start of the rebirth cycle
