The untamed wilderness of Melrath is vast and encompasses frigid mountain ranges, glacial fields, deep alpine lakes, dark ancient forests as well as the expansive shoreline of the nation. Here creatures and spirits dwell together in the remote places of the world, far from the hustle and bustle of civilization.

Returning from an exciting affair in the capitol of Melrath, Nasod was greeted by the animals of the forest. They had fled upon his arrival, in fear of him being a vicious predator, which they were not wrong about. He was just happy to out of the prying eyes of those damn monks after all. Within the safety of forest, he relaxed a bit. In his mind he wasnt sure what would be his next move, but he knew very well he couldnt remain in one place for long. He began plotting his next course of action, opting to move further away from this region, going north.

As he mulled over his option everything around him went black. He couldnt recall how it happened, but in a few short moments, he had been snatched. How the hell did it happen? Who did it? Where the hell was he now? He could hear voices in the background, and his predatorial instincts noting several figures around him.

Wherever they had taken him was outside, the smell of trees and the gentle kiss of wind on his face noted that much. Fidgeting around he found his hands were bound, locked together.

But above all this, the one thing that was making him ancy was the fact he couldnt feel his totems. he tried to shift into Sparky, bust his way out and head north as he planned, but he couldnt. He kept trying, reaching out to each totem but to no avail. Finally, the obstruction to his eyes was removed, and his crimson reptilian eyes laid on the group of monks from the trial prior.

He was surrounded by these monks, and his glare fixed on them all, a loud hiss coming from him.

Jasper hadn’t been one of the shaman sent to go and retrieve the new arrival. Experience had long since taught the Aesir that foreign mages didn’t react well to being told they had to register and pass a test. Jasper didn’t know much about the outside world but from what he had heard mages weren’t welcomed or even trusted. They were a resource squandered and waisted. The mages were distrustful of the power and the people in it. Jasper understood why it was that this Becomer had run.

Jasper had been asked to act as this individuals mage mentor through this test. In the case of a Melrathian they would have asked the person who awakened the mage in question but that was clearly not happening in this case. So Jasper approaches through his fellow shaman. He approached wearing a vest and black slacks. The vest allowed one to see his embla on his arms. On one arm were the scares from his fight with a Grendel while on the other were the carefully crafted marks showing him as a full grown adult. Far away it just looked like matching scars. It was harder to see them but he also had matching marks on his palm. One marking him as an Aesir and another marking his as a mage. He wore all of them proudly.

The others wore the more complex robes of the Aesir and mask across their faces designed make there presence more uncomfortable. They parted to let Jasper through as he walked forward. Jasper looked at the man tied in the middle clearing. The young mage sat down on the ground in front of the Becomer even as he was being hissed at.

Jasper smiled at the mage. “Once again let me welcome you to Melrath. I am Jasper and will serve as your mage mentor for this test.” His voice was calm and his expression friendly. “I apologize for the ruff treatment, but all mages must pass this test.” Jasper held up his palm showing his mage mark. “It’s a simple thing but once done you can go anywhere within Melrath.” His brown eyes looked into Nasir’s red eyes. “I am sure you have questions go ahead and ask please.

The viper's hiss subsided as he listened to the man speak. He knew this much from his intial enncounter in the city. Why was it so damn important to test them, and then brand them?

His gaze adverted to those in the room, then fixed back on the male that came to sit with him. Leaning forward the viper hissed a bit before speaking.

"Have you ever thought that mages don't like being told "Hey you need to prove you are capable and be branded like cattle. Its either that or you get exiled or killed". No sane mage would like to hear as such."

His tone was condescending but he chuckled, as it was just his own opinion, as he was not the norm when it came to mages. Looking at those around, he snarled, fidgeting with the restraints.

"It's gonna be kinda hard to demonstrate my prowess, cause somehow I can't feel my spark. And a word to the wise, cutting a becomer off from his totems is not the best way to get his cooperation.....just for future reference.

He noted, hoping it would prompt the man to release him. He had no intention of running as it was apparent they were much better at finding him than he was at avoiding them. At this point, he was just eager to prove he was capable and move on.

Jasper sat listening as the newest arrival to Melrath hissed at him about being branded like cattle. The young man watched the Becomer bound before him his brown eyes interested in what he was being told. The young Aesir could understand that if you weren’t used to the Embla and being marked how it could be a negative in their mind. Still smiling he spoke again. “You make a good point no one, mage or solider or tradesman like to be marked out, but what you are unaware of is that these marks are what brings us together.” He pointed to the embla on his arm that at first seemed to mirror the scares on his other arm. Up close you could see that the lines were composed of little symbols and patterns. “We call them Embla. All people in Melrath have one given to them in when they become an adult.” He then showed his other hands. “And then they receive on when they join a profession. These marks including the mage mark, is to bring you into the fold of Melrath.” Jasper stood up. “Within Melrath to not be marked sets you apart. I have heard of the persecution mages outside of Melrath suffer. The Mages of Melrath wear there marks with pride as it grants us freedom from having to hide who we are and what we can do.”

The young man settled back down as Nasod hissed about needing to be able to access his power to be able to prove that he could pass the test. Jasper gave a kind of grimace. “We will get to that shortly.” He said “The purpose of the test isn’t to see how powerful you are but your self control.” Jasper stood up and spoke, “Since you are ready to take the test we can start with unbinding you physically.” As he spoke he moved around and began to loosen the bonds. This was always the first test, how would they react once they had been physically released but not magically. “I understand that my brethren among the Aesir have been impressed and you also impressed on of the great houses.” He said as the last of the bonds fell away.

"If I didnt have any control over self, you would have been crushed by my tail."
he said in his natural tongue. Looking around the room he could see the look on their faces, the intent in their eyes. He could sense them gauging him. He was gauging them back.

Sighing he shook his head he wasn't a fool, and he knew he had to play along if he wanted this to be over as soon as possible. He listened to the man's responses as he undid his bindings. Stretching he let out a groan of disappointment as he could see where this was going.
"Let me guess, your brothers and this noble house wish to acquire my talents for themselves.

I've seen this ordeal before. You and this noble house use me and then once I'm no longer of any use you toss me away like trash. I've seen this before from my homeland, what can you do or say to convince me otherwise."
There was a conviction in his voice and his glare. He had been through this before, once with Duke Detlev & Fridgar.

Following others was not in his best interest as far as his past experiences where concerned. He didnt want to fall in that same rut once again, feeling so dependant on someone or a group with influence and power. He would hear what he had to say in this regard, but it would take some serious convincing. Otherwise, this meeting would end rather bloody for both the viper and as many of these monks he could kill, even without access to his magic. ㊮

Jasper quietly collected the ropes used to bind the Becomer, even as the snake man muttered at him in his own language. The mage was clear an irritable individual as was made clear by the conversation, but he was reasonable. Based on what he had heard about the gentleman he had expected him to be ranting and raving, but so far the conversation had been terse but calm. Jasper was her to act as a support during the trial ahead and not really deliver it himself. Higher and more powerful member of his order would perform the actual test on the magical parts. Jasper was there to talk.

Jasper wasn’t exactly sure of the name of the person he was talking to but he didn’t get a chance to ask as the man followed up on one of Jaspers previous comments. The brown eyes Aesir watched with a placid expression as the Become expressed his “concerns” about the order and one of the great houses. Jasper kept his face straight but fought against the urge to smile. Ahh this man was quick to understand. While his expression remained calm his eyes looked on with approval.

“This test is given to all mages within these borders, but you are not required to work for anyone once you have passed.” Jasper said but nodded his head in acknowledgement of the snakeman’s observations. “I would be greatly surprised if you if you weren’t approached by both and more.” The young man paused before continuing. “From what I have heard you are a talented mage, use that to your advantage. I don’t know about balance of power outside Melrath, but here that balance exists between the Aesir’s, the Circle, the great houses, and the militaries. They all want talent of any type. You don’t have to be tool used and thrown away. Be your own master and let them fight over you and just make sure that the price they pay for your services makes you too valuable to just throw away.” Jasper spoke calmly his eyes hardening. It was one of the things he had found most disappointing about the capital. “Or just say no to all of them. I would suggest leaving the capital and join the spirits and animals wandering the wilds. Even some of the most powerful of my order have departed from capital and made their own way in the world.” He shrugged. “Or settle down in one of the smaller cities or towns.”

Jasper set the neatly coiled ropes down and look back at the mage. “I joined the Aesir because of my connection to the spirits, then I was awakened a few arcs later. I do work for a great house but only as a minor spiritual advisor, and that I did of my own free will.” He titled his head. “I haven’t ever meet anyone who was forced to join the Aesir by the Aesir. Though I have found a few whose Parents were a major push.”

“Shall we processed with the test.” Jasper smiled. “Once we are done you can go where ever you want. The offers will come, but the choice will be yours.” The young man was impressed. This person did seem to be in control even with his spark blocked.

㊮ Though his facial expression never changed, he was enticed by this power. He was the prize that was sought out by this group that now surrounded himself, as well as nobility. He had only been in the region for a short while now and already had eyes looking his way.

The monk's words softened his expression a bit, relaxing as he stood now that his restraints were removed. He stretched, his tail swaying back and forth looking around the room to all those present. He could see the anticipation, many eager to see exactly what he can do.

With all eyes on him, he nodded to the one that had been conversing with him through this entire ordeal. With that, one of the monks came forward, more so the one that had gotten the jump on him back in the city. A smirk was exchanged between the two, and the monk would begin.

No running this time ok. he mused, as he finally released whatever had bound Nasod from his totems. It was like a breath of fresh air to have his connection restored. Now, what magical disciplines are you versed in? he inquired, the monk's eyes gauging the viper to see if he would run or attack now that his magic was restored.

"Becoming & Hone"
the viper replied breathing in the fresh air of the night forest. Very well, now demonstrate to us that you can handle your magic, without being a danger to those around you. I'll allow you to chose how you go about this. The monk explained.

Nasod nodded as he stepped into the middle of the clearing they were at, the entire force of monks surrounding him. Of all his totems only one stood out, wanting to make an appearance. Smirking he gave in and allowed the form to come through, his form becoming that of crystal. From it Jumper burst forth, leaping into the tree line.

Gasps filled the monks as they tried to keep up with Nasod as he was leaping faster than they could see. With a loud thud, he landed a few feet from the lead monk.
"As you can see I'm well in control of my magic. I had good teachers.
he echoed over the growls of Jumper's natural voice.

Looking around he could see the many monks discussing to themselves as if he was an exhibit to be gawked at, which in this case was exactly correct. Seeming satisfied by his own display of his talents in becoming his form crystalized once again, and from the gem-like form of Jumper, Nasod jumped from it. Giving his body a shake he turned to the lead monk once again.

His tail began to etch a rune into his right arm, forming the rune of strength. He could sense how much ether he would need in order to punch a small and contained crater into the ground. Looking to all the monks around him, then to the lead one, he smirked.

"Will this suffice as enough evidence for my level of control?"
