Appearance
Teryani takes very much after her mother in appearance. Her mother was a Sev'ryn, but even among Sev'ryn, she was light skinned. Teryani inherited that, and with her father being an Ellune, she got very pale, fair skin. She's extremely prone to sunburn and absolutely fails when it comes to tanning. There are very slight freckles that cross her nose, only showing up in certain lights, but she has more freckles running down her back. She has her mother's dark hair, a deep brown so dark that it's black in most lighting, that falls to her shoulders, often in curls or waves. Teryani's eyes are a vibrant blue, a common trait of the Ellune. They look almost icy at times, but are always bright and warm.
Teryani doesn't have the full height of an Ellune- her father having been 8'4- but she is quite tall for a girl. She's 6 feet, 8 inches, and she towers over most people. It's most annoying when entering buildings, she almost always has to bend over or sit down just to fit. Her body is normal size, all except the height. Teryani has a lovely body, a little bit curvaceous with a slightly big bust, certainly not a stick figure. She is very proud of that fact, and very content with her body.
Teryani's way of dressing is very feminine. She won't lie- she likes feeling pretty. She enjoys skirts and dresses and jewelry. However, she also likes to be out in nature and that means getting dirty. So more often than not, she wears pants and a blouse so she's dressed appropriately and not getting her good clothes dirty.
Personality
Teryani doesn't really know who she is, or where she fits in the world. She is neither Ellune nor is she Sev'ryn, yet she's both. All her life, she's judged every aspect of herself and asked, "Is that from my Ellune side or my Sev'ryn side?" She tends to get stuck on who she should be and how she should act, rather than who she actually is. It's one of her flaws, over analyzing and fretting over things that she can't control or change. Teryani believes in logic- cause and effect, action and consequence, good and bad. She sees things in black and white, simple and clean. Because of this, she has a hard time with certain things.
However, Teryani is very intelligent. She's a bookworm at heart, always seeking more knowledge and experience. She wants to see the world, definitely having a traveler's spirit. From her Sev'ryn side, Teryani has always been a very spiritual, nature-loving person. She's happiest when she's outside, and she loves different types of weather like rain and snow. She's a little more fond of the cold than the hot, having grown up in cold places. She's very patient, and typically calm and level headed. Teryani doesn't have much of a temper, and is much more likely to get frustrated and emotional than to get angry.
Teryani is adventurous and curious, always asking questions. She's very tactile, often reaching out to touch different things, getting a sense for how they feel, and she loves textures. She enjoys simple things in life, and little moments. She's also very humble and modest, constantly talking her own accomplishments down. Teryani is the type of girl who doesn't need riches to be happy. She would be happy just traveling the world, living by each meal, and having someone she loves by her side.
Teryani is joyful. She loves surprises and sweet gestures, and she smiles often. She can be very playful, and even flirty at times. She can also be a little mischievous if she likes someone, and very teasing. She has a delightful sense of humor, and a love of nature.
Above all, Teryani is very kind and generous. She has a very big heart, and would treat most strangers the way she would treat friends. In truth, Teryani is naive. She hasn't seen the bad people of the world and doesn't believe people are truly bad, so she's very easily manipulated. It's one of her few flaws, that she sees the world as too good. Teryani believes people will be honest- as she is quite honest herself-, and she believes that they will do the right thing eventually. Even people in her life who have hurt her, she will keep coming up with excuses for them so she can forgive them.
Teryani has a very pretty voice, and in fact would make a decent singer. She enjoys music and dancing, so it isn't beyond the realm of possibility, either. (See her music videos by Jasmine Thompson for an example of Teryani singing)
Teryani holds very forgiving opinions as a result. To name a few...
Immortals - Teryani is very spiritual, and has always believed in a higher power. As a result, she's very pious and faithful, and very thoughtful of her actions. While she follows more of a moral code in life than a religious one, she does believe in the immortals. It's one of her favorite areas of study.
Mortal Born - Teryani holds the same opinion of Mortal Borns as she does Immortals. She believes they were put into the world for a purpose, whether it's a blessed one or not. She would show great respect to a Mortal Born, if she ever met one.
Mixed Breeds - Being a mixed breed herself, Teryani holds them in high regard. She is of the opinion that love is love is love is love- no matter gender, age, nor race. Teryani would never let race hold her back from love, and she hopes to raise children that are as tolerant as she is.
Mages - Her father is a mage, and has always had many mages around him. As a result, Teryani grew up to love magic. It was fascinating to her, and she hopes to learn it herself some trial. She's always thrilled to meet other mages, and would stand up for any mage in trouble.
Piracy - Piracy is bad... but Teryani believes pirates are desperate people, who have no other choice. They wouldn't plunder villages and steal coin from people if they had a choice... right?
Killing - Teryani doesn't like killing, but she also accepts that people are wired for self survival. If they had no choice but to fight- then they have no choice but to kill to end the fight. Teryani will always try to find a way to incapacitate an enemy rather than kill them. Knocking them out, using poison to paralyze them, or shooting an arrow into their leg all are better options, in her opinion. But if you have no choice... she can forgive herself, and others, for killing.
Other Races - It'd be easiest to go by race.
- Avriel - Teryani has never met an Avriel, though she has heard they're horrible people. Which confuses her to no end. She refuses to believe badly of them before she even meets one, and insists that genetics can't pick if they're good or bad. She believes that people just make bad choices, and that is a choice each individual makes.
- Biqaj - Teryani adores the Biqaj. She's met the few who braved the freezing waters to sail to Viden, and she has yet to meet one she doesn't like. She's danced with them, and drank with them, and sang with them. Any Biqaj is a friend of hers, and since many Biqaj are pirates, this has shaped her opinion of piracy.
- Eidisi - Eidisi are... a little intimidating to Teryani. She believes they are good people, and greatly intelligent, but the intellectual Eidisi that her father knows always tend to scare Teryani a little. They give her goosebumps.
- Ellune - Being half Ellune, Teryani has a high regard for them. There is no smarter race, in her opinion, and the story of Treid always breaks her heart. She weeps every time she hears it, and she sympathizes greatly for the Ellune. Given that she grew up around more Ellune than Sev'ryn, she also feels more like they are her kin than she does for the Sev'ryn... so far.
- Humans - There's nothing wrong with humans, in Teryani's opinion. She's met many of them. They don't really interest her from a educational standpoint.
- Hyludin - No opinion at all, as Teryani has absolutely never met one or even heard much about them.
- Aukari - Teryani isn't very fond of the Aukari. Not only do they have a terrible rep in Viden, where Teryani has spent most of her life, but they're also so hot, and Teryani finds that heat uncomfortable. She's always preferred the cool, and her own skin is quite cool to the touch. She loves the idea of a warm man to cuddle with, but Aukari are just... too warm. She thinks their red hair is lovely, though, and she's always polite to them.
- Mer - Teryani is fascinated with Mer. It's another race she's never met, but she's read about them extensively. She'd love the chance to research one, maybe ask questions. She'd love even more to see one of their underwater cities, but alas, she can't hold her breath that long.
- Naerikk - Another fascination of Teryani's, the Naerikk are the reason Teryani wanted to learn Grovokian. She some trial wants to visit Augiery.
- Qi'ora - There were a few Qi'ora craftsmen in Viden, and Teryani always loved visiting them, seeing their well crafted wares. She respects them quite a bit for their trade.
- Sev'ryn - The other half of who she is. Teryani was taken away from Desnind when she was so very young, and there are very few if any Sev'ryn in Viden. Teryani always felt as if she were missing this side of her... She hopes to find it soon.
- Tunawa - Adorable little things. Teryani remembers meeting them as a child, and they were always so friendly and cheerful. Her opinion of them is very high.
- Wisps - Ghosts! Teryani used to have nightmares involving Wisps when she was little. Not as much anymore, but she tries not to think about them very much.
- Yludih - One of the most fascinating races to Teryani, who has read about them. She wonders if they really are made of crystal, and if they really don't go to Emea like the rest of them. Some trial, she hopes to meet some Yludih, though she hasn't yet.
- Lotharro - This is silly but... Teryani likes strong men. Men who are outdoorsy and fit, who have a ruggedness to them. She kind of crushes a little bit on Lotharro. But she prefers men who have softness to them and aren't quite so big. The Lothar are a bit intimidating to her, too. Even at her height she's certain one could lift her up above his head.
- Ithecal/Raskithecal - Teryani actually has a fear of snakes. She hates that she does, because she loves all living creatures, but put a snake near her and she bolts. As a result, she keeps what she hopes is a polite distance from the Ithecal and Raskithecal.
As you can see, Teryani's opinions of things are pretty plain. She doesn't like negativity in her life, and she tries very hard not to exude it through her opinions. She's a simple girl with simple pleasures. Some of the things she likes includes: Cold weather, rain, iced tea, riding horses, writing letters, learning, reading books, handsome men, nature, the stars, the sky, flying, dancing, music, singing, and spending time with people she loves. Some things she dislikes are: Forceful men, hot trials, burning her tongue on hot food, snakes, darkness, racism.
That's the basics of who Teryani is... the rest is up to how she lives her life.
History
Teryani's history starts with her parents. Her father came to Desnind on a research expedition for the plant life, where he met her mother, a gardener. In truth, their union wasn't long lasting. The way Teryani's father describes it, they "did it like bunnies behind a bush, led by uninhibited passion" and that was how Teryani was conceived. It's not a very romantic story. They never dated, nor did they marry when her mother found out she was pregnant. In fact, her father went back to his home in Viden, leaving her mother to be single and raise a child.
For the first six arcs of Teryani's life, she lived in Desnind. She would have remembered more about it, but as with most traumatic experiences, when you block one part out it's like one big black burn in your memory. You see, Teryani's mother had a brother. Teryani's uncle, Devon.
Devon liked little girls. Luckily, he never did anything to Teryani. He tried to, but her father foiled the whole thing. It was on her birth trial that her uncle got her alone and wanted her to sit on his lap. That was when her father walked in and caught Devon's wandering hand.
He pulled Teryani away so fast it hurt. Teryani blocks out what happened next, for the most part. Because as the two men began to shout at each other, everything escalated when Devon punched her father. Teryani stood just a few feet away and watched as her father slipped a dagger from his pocket and slid it up through Devon's ribcage and into his heart. She heard the gurgling gasp from her uncle as blood seeped onto his shirt. She still has nightmares of when her father twists the dagger more painfully and hisses out,
"You ever try to touch my daughter again, I will learn Necromancy, bring you back, and kill you all over again, you sick bastard."
Teryani remembers what happened after that very well. Her father taking her by the hand, telling her everything was okay now. He got rid of the body, made Teryani promise never to tell anyone- which, to be honest, she was so traumatized from the ordeal she didn't know what she'd say if she tried- and told her she would come to live with him in Viden.
It didn't happen right away. Her mother and father argued for what seemed like ages (but in truth was only a few weeks). Her mother would accuse him of not caring about Teryani enough, and say things like, "My brother just went missing and now you want to take away my daughter?" While her father would calmly try to assure her with logic, "She'll be of an age to attend school soon, and Viden has the finest teachers."
Eventually, Teryani's father won the argument. She remembers hugging her mother for the last time and walking through the dense forest to leave Desnind. That's what she remembers the most- the trees. There was so much green in Desnind,but in Viden it is only white from snow. Still, Teryani loved Viden. She loved the snow, and the cold weather, and the towers of the buildings. She loved running through the city streets, and she loved the huge libraries with more books than she could read in a lifetime.
Growing up, it was clear Teryani had inherited Ellune intelligence. As she grew older, she had a particular interest in languages. Her father taught her some basic Leni, the language most Ellune spoke. Teryani has yet to really master it, though. She also had two teachers, Jasmine and Daryna, who taught her other languages. Teryani's mother visited once a arc, and in those times she would tell her stories of Desnind, and the Sev'ryn. On her last visit, she showed Teryani how to hold a bow.
Life is good, for now. But Teryani hasn't found her familiar yet, and each night brings dreams that calls her to the wild forests outside Desnind. Pulling at her spirit, deep inside, telling her to acknowledge her Sev'ryn side.
Housing
Very soon, Teryani will be selling her house to move to Desnind. When she gets to Desnind, she'll probably live in the inn for a while until she can get housing.
