Re: [Scalvoris] Food & Drinks

Bell Hoppers

Developed by Yeva
Image
Main Ingredient(s):Bell Flowers, soft beer cheese, herbs or spices, egg, bread crumbs, meat
Appearance: Bell Hops vary in size, but are typically one to two inches in length, deep fried and filled with soft beer cheese (hence the 'hops'), these crunchy and creamy appetizers are pleasant and found primarily in towns surrounding Sweet Wine Woods, where the base ingredient, Bell Flowers, grow.
Taste: The outer casing, the Bell Flower has a faint, somewhat sweet taste, and is stuffed with smooth and [often] mild flavors of cheese and herbs, most commonly chives or spring onion. Some cooks play around texture, alternating the crumble of their bread crumbs to give it more of a crunch upon first bite and some have begun to dabble with adding diced or crumbled meat before cooking. To add more kick, spice is often added to the outer casing or a cream dipping sauce is paired with the plate.
Price: 5 silver/platter (in Wealth Points terms - these are available at Tier 3 or above - the silver /platter is a RP guide only)
Availability: Uncommon
Any other details: While still unheard of in the Northern regions of Scalvoris, Bell Hops are growing in quick popularity, especially around taverns for their nice pairing with ale and cheap creation.

Re: [Scalvoris] Food & Drinks

Faldrass Potato
Image
Developed by Darius Baer
Short Description: A large root vegetable that is always warm.
Found: Faldrass
Toxicity/Hazard: Due to the volcanic origins of the vegetable, the skin can be toxic if ingested.
Appearance: On the outside, the Faldrass potato plant resembles a ball of lava, but once cut open, it resembles a large potato.
Properties: Beyond being a larger form of potato, the Faldrass potato also bears an innate warmth, meaning it can sit on a plate for a long time after being cooked without going cold, and can even be used as a source of warmth.
Rarity: Uncommon.
How To Use: The Faldrass potato can be used mostly in the same ways a regular potato can be used: mashed, baked, boiled, or steamed. However, due to the toxicity of the skin, they should always be peeled first, and due to their innate warmth, they are not suitable for a cold dish, such as a potato salad.
Side Effects:
Status: Available to be foraged on Faldrass.
Price: Currently not for sale.
Notes: The Faldrass potato was discovered by Faldrass refugees returning to their homeland following the eruption of Arc 720.

Re: [Scalvoris] Food & Drinks

Bloodleaf Leaf & Bloodleaf Sap
Image
Developed by Balthazar Black
Short Description Haunting white trees with vibrant red leaves that are surprisingly edible.
Properties
The leaves of the bloodleaf tree can be consumed and provide nourishment to the body comparable to spinach while providing an irony, and predictably blood-like taste.
The sap of the bloodleaf tree and be collected and consumed as well though it had a taste more akin to a sweet honey than blood.
Rarity Very Rare
How To Use There are no steps needed to prepare the leaves before they are safe to consume but most would separate them from the tree. Similarly there are no steps needed to prepare the sap for consumption.
Side Effects Some have noted that when they cut into or pull the leaves from bloodleaf trees, their eyes begin to water. This is because when such actions are performed, the tree produces a chemical irritant much like onions as a defensive measure. However this effect only seems to come from living trees, not pieces once they'd been removed.
Status Legal
Price Tier 4
Notes They seem to thrive more in the Sweetwine Woods than anywhere else. Attempts to grow them elsewhere will produce notable smaller versions of the trees in the Sweetwine Woods.

Re: [Scalvoris] Food & Drinks

Firana
Image
Developed by Alyssia
Short Description: The Firana is a fruit native to the island of Scalvoris.
Found: The Firana is a native to the island of Scalvoris found in the wilds. It was discovered on the way to the Sky Worship clearing by Migh and his group.
Toxicity/Hazard: There is no known toxicity or hazard when eating the fruit.
Appearance: Firana look exactly like normal bananas except for the red color to the skin. The actual fruit within the casing is a light pink color appearing almost like a raw meat. If it is cooked in a pan or able to be cooked over a fire the fruit darkens into a deep red close to the peels color.
Properties: The Firana has a spicy smell that attracts people to it. Though the raw meat color normally turns people off. Few that have actually tried the fruit say that the taste is like spiced meat, but when raw is very bitter and hard to swallow. After cooking it the smell of spices is even stronger and the taste is far better. It actually ends up tasting like cooked spicy meat from a restaurant. Cooks have been known to use it in place of meat during hard times in the cold cycle.
Rarity: Common in Scalvoris, uncommon in the rest of Idalos
How To Use: The firana can be eaten raw though the flavor is not good. When cooked it tastes far better.
Side Effects: there are no known side effects to eating the Firana
Status: Legal
Price: any tier in Scalvoris/tier five outside of Scalvoris

Ignis Clam

Developed by Elisabeth Angelus & Balthazar Black
Image

Found only in the sand and water surrounding Faldrass, the Ignis Clams are something of an enigma. Their beautiful rainbow-colored shells are prized for art and gifts. The shells and meat possess several unique qualities.

Found Only in the volcanic sands of Faldrass.
Toxicity/Hazard Not itself but it is recommended to cook clams before eating to kill lingering bacteria
Appearance Unique rainbow shells in varying colors, measuring about three inches across at the hinge. A larger variety of clam.

Properties
- Due to the volcanic nature of the island, the inner shell is incredibly reflective and can be polished and used for small mirrors.
- The shell itself is heat-resistant due to developing in volcanic sand.
- The meat of the clam is densely packed with iron (the mineral) due to where the clam develops and grows.
- Ignis clams occasionally will contain a rare 'Fire pearl'. These are coveted by jewelers around Idalos for their rarity and beauty.
- The meat of the clam has a slightly lemony taste when cooked.

Rarity Rare - Found only in the volcanic sand on Faldrass - Currently, there would be a thriving population of them due to depopulation of the island after the eruption. (Arc 721 Unusual)

Re: [Scalvoris] Food & Drinks

Faldrass Fish Pie

Developed by Darius Baer.
Image
Main Ingredient(s): Without question, the most critical ingredient in the Faldrass Fish Pie is the Faldrass Potato. If there is no Faldrass Potato, the dish cannot be called a Faldrass Fish Pie. Any fish can be used, although purists will insist that a true Faldrass Fish Pie should be made with Veil Fish.
Appearance: Faldrass Fish Pie resembles the appearance of what one might expect of a burning jacket potato, with a blend of lava orange and charcoal on the outside. Inside, the potato and fish are steaming hot, with the former having slowly cooked the latter over the space of a few breaks.
Taste: Faldrass Fish Pie tastes very similar to any other kind of fish pie, depending on the choice of fish. It is its appearance - and ability to maintain its temperature for breaks at a time - that has made it popular and memorable.
Price: Faldrass Fish Pie is an affordable meal for most people.
Availability: The Faldrass Potato is only grown near Hopetoun, on Faldrass, and as this is a key ingredient in the Faldrass Fish Pie, its locality limits its availability beyond Scalvoris.
Any other details: The Faldrass Potato retains its heat so well that it essentially acts as a miniature oven. Once a fish has been deboned, the meat can be inserted into the potato in a raw state, and after a few breaks, the Faldrass Fish Pie is ready to eat. Due to its heat, Faldrass Fish Pie is usually served on the end of a stick, and the same stick can be used to test that the dish is ready to eat.

Rubrum Berry
Image
Developed by Elisabeth Angelus
Short Description Rubrum Berry plants are generally found in sandy soil environments, making them common near beaches or where sand makes up a good portion of the ground material. The stems of rubrum plants are wiry and creeping. The leaves are evergreen, oval or elliptical, and less than 0.5 inchs long. The round crimson berries are used for cooking and medicinal purposes.
Found Commonly found near beaches or where sand makes up a fair amount of the ground material. Note: In the warm sands of Faldrass, this plant grows much more quickly, producing berries as early as Ashan due to the roots and plant bodies not freezing.
Toxicity/Hazard None known
Appearance The stems of rubrum plants are wiry and creeping. The leaves are evergreen, oval or elliptical, and less than 0.5 inches long. The runners from the rubrum berry plant root themselves, propagating the plant. Runners can reach up to 6 feet long and plants can grow to 2 feet tall. Berries will be on the lower stems of the plant.
Properties Berries are used for cooking and medicinal purposes. Acidic in nature with a high nutrient and antioxidant content. Will help improved immune function and decrease blood pressure
Rarity Uncommon

Baron's Brew

Developed by Darius Baer
Type of Alcohol: Beer
Short Description: A beer that has been brewed with Faldrass potato.
Found: Hopetoun
Toxicity/Hazard: The alcoholic content of Baron's Brew is comparable to other beers.
Appearance: With an orange-brown colour and a frothy head, Baron's Brew is reminiscent of most beers. It is typically served in a tankard.
Properties: Baron's Brew is a beer that is standard in almost every way, except that it is brewed using the Faldrass potato. This gives it a uniquely earthy spiciness that is attributed to the vegetable, while its temperature can ensure the drink retains its warmth almost indefinitely - certainly long enough to ensure the drinker has time to consume it at any pace he or she chooses. Baron's Brew is popular all arc round, but particularly in the colder months, where it is not unheard of for people to purchase it and hold onto it as a way to warm their hands, before eventually drinking it. Baron's Brew received its name after the brewer had Darius Baer, one of the Barons von Smooglenuff, taste test some beers and pick his favourite. As such, it is occasionally called Baron Baer's Brew, but it is rumoured that Darius Baer prefers its more common name so that he isn't mistakenly credited with its creation.
Side Effects: As Baron's Brew is a beer, excess consumption may lead to dizziness, impaired judgment, and a generally inflated perception of the drinker's singing and dancing abilities.
Rarity: Common in Hopetoun. Not available elsewhere.
Price ~ This becomes available at Wealth Tier 3. If purchased outside of Tier, it costs 1 WP.
