Of Exploration and Expirations

100th Ashan, Arc 721: Mayor Leighs office, Scalvoris Town.
The council, the academy, and the elements had deemed it a necessity for the sentry to be explored, given the results of a secret partial investigation. Whether or not the members of said investigation kept quiet was of anyone's guess, but one thing for sure was that the consequences weren’t clear but it seemed like there was severe backlash involved. The results of said investigation, well, it would come to light tomorrow. With the Academy and the councils combined effort and resources, the Sentry was to be mapped to its full extent, and any lingering or stray secrets would then be tied up and thoroughly investigated. The people were already curious, but no one could guarantee safety of the venture and thus it remained mostly barred, rather warned about the potential danger to the public.

That was the plan anyhow. Yet still though, there was much planning, gathering, and organizing to be done. That of which would remain largely unrevealed until later in the trial. For now, the explorer prospects were gathering in Scalvoris proper. Leigh was very much looking forward to the results and hopeful of the outcome- less paper work and complaints once the results were out, yes? As Mayor, she was in questionable standing with the people- her inaction or something similar. Then again, if the public outcry wanted her to step down- no, no wasn’t the time. Finishing the final outline for council records- all the ledgers and proposals within had been agreed upon by the Academy-Council partnership, but most of it was a disorganized mess they’d practically thrown at her. Her hatred for conflict made her docile, and she’d taken the job after all eyes had been on her. At the last dot she sighed a breath of relief and had it sent to the scribes for copying making. With her signature neatly scrawled over the paper, the fliers were posted over the next trial thanks to the diligent work of her office employees all around Scalvoris and most of the other settlements, if not all.

110th Ashan, Arc 721: The Docks, Scalvoris Town
Early Morning
The Scalvoris Docks, the meetup for the expedition which was sponsored by both the Academy and the Council, was already busy as usual. Zach spent most of his time in Ishallr, and he was most definitely warm even though it was not a particularly hot trial. He'd dressed lightly- he'd stayed in Scalvoris for the duration of the preparations so he'd be ready for when the time came for the exploration. He found himself smiling despite not wanting to have taken the job. He'd be briefed, in glorious detail, about the general feel of the place.

No animals in sight, in fact, nothing of the living variety. Ah, but that was breaks away- he could be disappointed in his forceful hire later. Now, he couldn't say much for either, but Weaslys' skills and team would be invaluable - at least, in the mapping regard. In the end, there wasn't much to be said or done, but he knew and recalled the information well enough to relay it without an immortals forsaken seven breaks of talking... They knew he hated sitting in on informationals that didn't cater to his interest, but he supposed as they were funding his exploration and the building of Ishallr's headquarters, he could make an exception without too much grumbling.

His funny googles atop his forehead, mussed hair and general state made him look all the part of an explorer, albeit a somewhat rundown one. He was easy to spot though, which was good. Accordingly, they had set up a small booth and a sign near the meetup location- it was hard to miss really with the extra stalls and such. The fearful little guy, Weaslys, was set to take part in this expedition as well, but he had yet to show up. It would be breaks before the expedition was to start, but judging by the amount of people in front of him already, he hoped for more speedy exploration. At that time, He used his voice loudly so it stretched across the sizable area for the meetup. "This is going to be a journey, so everyone here for the expedition should getsa' ready! I'm Zach and I'll be spearheading and coordinating with our cartographer and note taker, who have yet to arrive. As you all know, this expedition is hosted and sponsored by both the Council and the Academy. Judging by our experimental looksee, there could be possible danger and a rumors from the investigation hint ghosts."

He let that sink in for a few bits as observed the reactions of the crowd. "You heard right, the only danger was found in the form of ghosts. Though these ghosts are yet unidentified, the previous investigation was concluded with no harm to the investigators, though a vow of silence was enacted. As many of you know or have heard, the location we are ferrying to is one the ruins of Faldrass. It was dubbed the Sentry by the people and many have inquired about its build and halls. The simplest answer is this- we have little information, s such there is potential to find danger."

He sounded a bit hopeful at the last part, so he cleared his throat. "Mm, I know you will all have questions, I will answer them to my capabilities. Meanwhile we wait, might as well get acquainted with your fellow adventurers and exploration buddies. Oh, right," The last part was a sudden exclamation. "We'll discuss the plan of attack, so to say, when it's time to depart and we're mostly all here. We are waiting on quite a few prospects, but in roughly two or three breaks, we'll begin boarding. At that point, once the boat is fully boarded and anchors pulled there will be no turning back, as the boat will not return to these docks until we've concluded the expedition. Please be sure to stop by the reception booth to be logged, that is how we will keep headcount. "

With that squared, he nodded once to himself and set about answering questions. People were free to come up or raise their hands or whatever to get his attention, and he tried to answer in a timely fashion. Weaslys approached sometime later, around a break or so with his fellow map makers and scribes and made his own call out about the expedition. Just an introduction and the names of his partners, which including the rather short, timid Eidisi himself included four others. Weaslys, Tia, Rozlam, and Beruk were the cartographers and the scribes, they'd be mapping and taking notes- there were two Eidisi for each position though they could work interchangeably. They seemed to huddle themselves near the booth after their introductions, but made it clear they were open to questions though Zach was the preferred option.

General Info

Alright alright alright, welcome to the expedition of DOOM!! Nah, I'm joking. This is our introductory post, as such it details some things. This will serve as the meetup as well as the expedition. Should player choice affect it, there could possibly be multiple threads.

For this round: You are required to post arriving at the meetup spot, Scalvoris docks. How you arrive is up to you as is the way your PC discovered the epoxidation. There were fliers put around all of Scalvoris save for the untamed locations- I.E. sweetwine and the jungle. Word traveled fast, or perhaps your PC stumbled upon the docks that day. Plus, all expenses of the trip will be covered, though its entirely up to the PC what they take with them.

Just as open-air, the general status of this thread is low risk. But player action could change that- but don't overthink it. It's better to slip into the mind of your PC than delve into the actions and consequences OOC. I GST/RP with this in mind, and would like to encourage you do the same.

Rules

  1. One post (Per PC) per round. This is too keep things flowing nicely.
  2. You have one week to join the event. If you don't post before me within that time you'll not be able to join later.
  3. NPC's (temporarily) mine, only I use them please no control thx.
  4. Play to your skill level. It helps me if, when you use a skill you maybe put an OOC note or such at the bottom to tell me what your skill is. Not a requirement, but it helps speed things.
  5. This is my first GST. As such, I'm pen to pms with questions or clarifications needs. THAT SAID: I will not bend the rules for you. If you do something insanely stupid, regardless of risk level, you get IC consequences depending on severity of the action and circumstances.

Mod Stlye

Heavily based and referenced off of the style Peg has/is using. Kudos to her and her friend who helped inspire it. There will be a host of objections- some required others not. Though there could be possible achievements in it for those who do them~

Objectivies

Skills: Dagger: 10 , Intelligence 54, Cartography: 98, Logistics: 50, Detection: 45, Writing: 76
Other Information: A rathe short Eidisi , he might just be the shortest recorded, and timid to boot. Weas (by friends) is very adept at his job. That said, he's somewhat of a coward- and refuses Cartography requests of new places without escort. He's always fidgeting, be it nerved or fear, but he genuinely loves his job. This Eidisi seem oddly friendly and comfortable with one another.

Name: Tia

Title: Expedition Cartographer
Skills: Intimidation: 23 , Intelligence 100, Cartography: 89, Logistics: 30, Writing: 76
Other Information: Tall, aggressively intelligent, and very odd- just a few things that describe Tia. She seems like a powerful woman, and one with a lot of ambition besides. Other Information: While most Eidisi are known for intelligence, Rozlam is firm in his belief that it takes brute and brawn in equal measure. He trained not just his mind, but his body. Once upon a time he may have thought different, but his experiences have shaped him- which he is grateful for.

Name: Beruk
Race: Eidisi
Age: Born 678
Title: Expedition Scribe
Skills: Caregiving: 70 , Intelligence 95, Cartography: 33, Logistics: 50, Detection: 30, Writing: 79, Psology: 41
Other Information: The group mom. With her keen intellect and motherly nature, this Eidisi is well loved and respected by her peers. She's known to mediate disputes, both in and outside her friend group. She's docile, but she can surprise people when she doles out passive aggressive remarks that are oddly cutting.

100 Ashan 721
Balthazar was one of the many people who had deemed it necessary to explore the Sentry and when a call had gone out, he made sure he was the first one to get it. He had been curious about the inside of the massive, mysteriously constructed, statue ever since he saw it on the first of Cylus. Despite the many, many different distractions pulling at his focus, he still wanted to know what was inside. After all, it was on Faldrass and if it was dangerous, Balthazar wanted to know to keep his settlers away from it. It did not bode well, in Balthazar's opinion, that the leader of this expedition's name was Zach. It made him think back to the last time he'd gone on an expedition to Faldrass with someone named Zach and that had gone very poorly for him. In the end, Balthazar decided that was not enough to dissuade him from going with the group.

It was better to venture inside with them than to venture inside on his own which he knew he would do if he didn't go with them. Zach spoke of dangers they might face and Balthazar listened passively. Ghosts? He knew enough about them that he wasn't worried. He didn't have any copper on him apart from some nels, but that would be enough if he really needed it to. He did not seem surprised or bothered in any way by the mention of ghosts. He simply wished that he hadn't left Nimue at the settlement. He moved over to the sign in when Zach instructed those present to do so and once he was signed in, Balthazar moved closer to the ship that would be taking them to Faldrass. He did not go to Zach, he did not go to any of the others who looked like they'd been hired for the expedition. He just looked off into the horizon at the water while his mind turned with the possibilities that Zach had mentioned.

Ghosts... he'd fought worse than that and having made the choice to settle on Faldrass, it was almost to be expected. This was shaping up to be a decent journey. The Flame Trooper accompanying Balthazar said nothing on the journey over.

THE ADVENTURE OF THE CENTURY!
Oh, wait, you said ‘sentry’.
Never mind…

Oram didn’t read. But when fliers went up around town, the traveler usually ferreted out what they announced quickly enough from those who did. Unlettered did not mean uninformed.

Oram had seen the glowing colossus known as the “Sentry” last Cylus, and had been curious about it ever since. Circumstances had not permitted him to explore further at the time, but now it seemed that circumstances had changed: the Viden Academy and the Scalvoris city council were sponsoring an expedition to explore and map the place. Needless to say, he was at the docks, with his spear and a pack full of gear, on the appointed trial, ready to accompany the party.

The first thing he noticed as he approached the docks was the knot of slim blue forms gathered near the stalls that the expedition organizers had apparently put up. The hunter wondered if these had just arrived from Viden. Possibly they were with the Academy? He hoped they spoke Common.

The human in their company, an unkempt-looking man sporting goggles, *did* speak common, and began to do so, loudly. The hunter’s attention snapped onto Goggle Guy as he introduced himself and explained the nature of their expedition. Goggle Guy’s name was “Zach” apparently. Oram frowned. The last time he had gone exploring someplace on Faldrass with a guy named “Zach”, things had not gone well. Hopefully, this time would be better. The hunter looked back at the ieidisi appraisingly, wondering how well they would handle themselves in a crisis. All but one seemed to be the bookish sort, which wasn’t as reassuring as Oram would have liked.

And then Zach mentioned ghosts. Oram made a sign against the evil eye. More bad omens. Ghosts had never harmed him, nor anyone he knew, but that was largely because he and his people avoided them. What would he do, he wondered if he meet a ghost that meant him ill? He hoped he would not find out.

Once Zach was finished with his speech, Oram looked around to see who else there was in the group. To his relief, he caught sight of Balthazar and waved. After Zach and ghosts, the mage’s presence in the party was a welcome bit of good news.

Although his mind roiled with concerns, the one question uppermost in Oram’s mind was what precautions if any the party organizers had taken for dealing with ghosts, since that was the one distinct hazard they expected; however, the traveler didn’t want to talk aloud about ghosts, especially not to strangers, so the question went unasked.

FLABIS FURBIS FLEBIS

Sign this; sign that. Oram didn’t see the point. There were all of seven persons to keep straight, and five of them clearly already knew one another. But clerks and functionaries everywhere had to do their thing, so, with a sigh, Oram shuffled over to the document Zach indicated and made his mark on a likely-looking spot. At last they were underway, after breaks of milling about, presumably waiting to see if any others showed up.

Oram had come prepared with food and water, so he had no need to raid the ship’s scullery; he remained on the deck, waiting for Zach and his eidisi to explain what more, if anything, they knew about where they were going and what they would do there. Weaslys, the one who did most of the talking, seemed nervous. Was he young? Oram didn’t know eidisi well enough to be able to tell. And he looked at the paper he was reading oddly. Was there something on it he didn’t expect? Or like? The traveler didn’t know that Weaslys himself had written the report he was now looking at, so the small eidisi’s seeming bafflement didn’t strike Oram as particularly odd, but it was concerning. What was it, exactly, that he wasn’t saying? The hunter shot a questioning glance at Balthazar to gauge whether he had noticed the same thing, and if so, what he made of it.

Oram scowled intently as he listened. Weaslys’ report didn’t tell him much that he didn’t already know or suspect. The one new bit was the one about the door. When the nervous little eidisi got to a pause, Oram asked: ”What do you mean by ‘gave off an odd air’? That mean actual air, as in: the door smelled bad or gave off fumes? Or does that mean more like: they got an odd feeling about it?” The traveler had plenty of respect for “bad feelings”, especially from people with the right sort of sense, but untoward fumes or damps could pose a greater and more concrete danger to everybody.

A while later, the ferry arrived at Faldrass docks, and Oram for the first time got a good look at the sentry in full sunlight. He had seen it before, in Cylus, but it had been dusk then, and he did not have the time nor the occasion to examine it as closely as he did now. The edifice that loomed over them conveyed the manner of a protector, complete with sword. Seen in the light, the traveler could appreciate the enormous figure’s features, and realized that they looked familiar: they looked for all Idalos like the Baron von Smooglenuff, albeit a more robust and active-looking version of him. The actual Baron he had met had moved about stiffly, with the help of a cane. Is this how he had looked, Oram wondered, in his youth?

Even while he was thinking this, and as the ship hove to and neared its mooring, the sentry gave off a pulse of light. While startling, this somehow didn’t strike him as ominous; it seemed, in fact, almost like a greeting. Oram, again, had plenty of respect for these sorts of presentiments, and this one was not ominous -was in fact, just the opposite. He did not, however, like to trust or rely on such things. Although it made little sense on later thought, the traveler shot the giant stone face a questioning, even challenging look, as if to demand of it: What did you mean by that?

Oram could see Amoach beside him, and shot the diri a similar look. The diri looked back at him. If it was possible for a Dutch oven to shrug, Oram was sure that Amoach would have done just that then. The hunter then looked over at Balthazar. Surely the mage had sensed something? Perhaps he even understood something of what it meant?

But there was no time to talk. The sailors were scrambling onto the pier and tying mooring ropes onto the bollards. Oram gathered his things and disembarked with the others. Perhaps he would find his answers once they entered the Sentry.

Zach grunted and grimaced as he pushed open the front door. It seemed to Oram that he almost lost his footing, but perhaps he was merely clumsy or out of shape. Within the group found themselves in a spacious chamber that was surprisingly well-lit, considering that it was unmanned apart from supposed ghosts. The place felt comfortable, even benign. Still, Oram preferred to rely on his own resources. He opened the hood of his lantern, to reveal the glowing yellow lightstone within, mounted where the wick used to be.

Zach announced that he could see no ghosts. Well, neither could Oram, but did that mean that they weren’t there? Not everyone could see spirits, and not all spirits chose to be seen. Could Zach see his or Balthazar’s diri? the hunter wondered, glancing at Amoach only to be met once more by its blank, red-eyed stare.

Zach and Tia started talking about splitting up. Oram frowned. He definitely did not like the plan. He spoke up, quietly because, like Zach, he felt that raised voices were somehow out of place here. ”I don’t think we should be in a hurry to split up,” he objected. ”Especially not to send anybody upstairs before we’ve checked out this level thoroughly. Fanning out to explore the whole level, sure, I can see that. But sending half the party upstairs two floors before we’ve finished exploring down here? No. I’d rather be safe than fast.”

He looked around. ”This place doesn’t seem dangerous. But that doesn’t mean that it isn’t.” He eyed the whistle handed to him, wondering what it would sound like, especially in here. ”We should test these before going any further, if we’re going to count on them for emergencies.” He nodded back towards the exit. ”Preferably outside. What do you think?”

100 Ashan 721
Oram was there! Balthazar remembered his various journeys with the more mundane man but thought little about them. He only thought of the trip ahead of them which had been occupying his curiosity for a long while. Overall the turnout was low but just like with Faldrass, a small group might have served them a little bit better than a large group. Zach was already bringing more people than Balthazar would have. Balthazar's approach may have been less effective for mapping it out, but it was easier to control and protect a small group. Then again Balthazar had the advantage of an infallible memory that allowed him to learn. What had been a burden earlier in the arc had quickly become the boon Vri meant it to be when Balthazar put his mind to the cases he worked on and journeys he took. He could walk through a room, pay decent attention, and recall everything about the experience at any time he wanted. He did not see the need for maps unless they wanted to plan some sort of siege but it was not his expedition so he simply signed the paper and got on board with the journey they'd had ahead of them.

Balthazar followed the group onto the boat and stood silently observing as the plan was explained by a seemingly timid man. He hadn't watched everyone sign in so he only remembered the names he'd heard and the faces paired with them, but it didn't matter because he still thought of them by the way they act. The timid one. The timid one's kin. Zach. That name was doomed. However what stood out to Balthazar and likely everyone else was that the door gave off an odd air. Balthazar had an easy solution to figure out something about that, two of them actually, but he said nothing because he didn't want to startle the man who was speaking. He kept it to himself the whole time in fact. He was here for the Elements but also for his own curiosity and he didn't want to draw more attention than he already would being himself when things got started.

They had to find the door first though and Balthazar was growing less confident in the eidisi by the trill. Still, he'd be good for now. There was no harm in the eidisi's nerves. When Oram looked to see if the man had noticed the other man reading, it seemed that Balthazar had disregarded it. Much like he had disregarded the question about the air that the door gave off. Balthazar figured they would experience it when they got there. Eventually Zach suggested everyone get acquainted and Balthazar gave Oram a glance before looking to the rest of the group. "I'm Balthazar, leader of Haven settlement with a vested interest in the Sentry. I'll help any way I can but I can't explain my abilities to you in the span of the ride over so if you have any thoughts, let me know and I'll do my best to help." Balthazar introduced himself to the others and looked around to see who would go next.
~~~ Nearing Faldrass ~~~
Balthazar had made his way onto the deck when he felt that they were nearing land so he could get a good look at the Sentry again as they came near it. He watched the pulse of light and felt a strange but familiar sense of calm wash over him. It was not unlike the effect of Grabthar's Hammer but it was unique in it's own way. This sort of thing always was and it was always fascinating to the mage. However there was something more to the feeling that had come over them. Something he almost missed while caught up in his own thoughts. A call. Come, Fire Forged.
Whoa. Balthazar sent a message to his diri Fuego who seemed to almost appear on the railing beside Balthazar. The diri was invisible to all but the mage and other Fire Forged but was he closest person Balthazar could report to. Did you hear that? Fuego looked at the man and shook his body slightly. Strange. Balthazar looked back towards the Sentry. Fascinating indeed. The next fascinating thing happened when Zach touched the door and seemed to weaken for a moment, however he said nothing of it and opened the door without dying so Balthazar assumed the man would be alright.
They moved into the first floor of the Sentry and Balthazar looked around, trying to capture as many details as he could while the whole group came in. The structure was new, he knew that because it had not been there before Cylus. Yet it appeared that at least the first floor was abandoned or at least ill-kept. Strange. Why put it up and then leave it? There was certainly more going on here than met the eye but he wasn't sure what it was yet. Zach spoke quietly, reporting that he didn't see any ghosts. Balthazar grinned. You typically didn't see them before they attacked. The one in Viden had always tried to get the jump on Balthazar before attempting to overpower him. Nimue had gone to lengths to make her presence known that most ghosts would not have because she wanted to bond with Balthazar and make an anchor of him. To his understanding the great majority were a little harder to detect.
One of the women proposed they split up and Balthazar fixed an odd stare at her. Split up? Divide and conquer sure but this whole place was an unknown. Zach thought whistles would be enough to bring them back together in case of the worst and Balthazar took the whistle because if he knew anything, it was not to turn down free things. Hopefully they would not turn down his free advice when the time came to share it. But Oram spoke first, expressing many of the same doubts that Balthazar had. Oram wanted to test the whistles but Balthazar didn't see the need because he knew that if he couldn't use the whistle he would have another method of getting the team's attention. It felt unnecessary to go outside so Balthazar gave his whistle a little blow where he was standing and then looked around. Mine works. He thought.
"While I wouldn't mind boldly charging ahead a few floors, I could have done so alone if I wanted to split up." They had numbers and if they divided they would be easier prey to the ghosts that were suspected. "If all it costs us is time, I think we'd do just as well to stay together. I can help defend those near me but I can't run that fast so if I skip the rooms Weasly's group goes to they'll be on their own for longer than it takes a ghost to kill you... in my experience. However if we are set on splitting up, I think it would still benefit the group to let me see every room as we pass them."
Weaslys looked frightened by the sudden question, clammy. His eyes scanned the potential threat, noting everything he could. An assessment, really, but it did little to assuage his nerves. He would've yelped, if he'd not been so afraid of the reaction it would cause. Still he avoided eye contact and answered the question as he should have. "Err, that is! One moment," he shuffled through the paper, ah, here it was. "That is strange, yes? I believe it to mean the feeling around, as a smell has yet to stop me from anything." The timid eidisi nodded to himself, and turned back to his group- a distraction, yes, that's what he needed. He made himself look busy, even in the close quarters of the ferry.
Inside the sentry, Oram spoke up, catching the full gaze of every Eidisi present. Weaslys jump of fear surprised none of his companions, the whistle high and loud enough to echo. Before anyone else said anything, Balthazar spoke. The tall, motherly eidisi directed a bright but sharp smile at both men. "My my, at least we have two competent humans." Beruk turned to Zach, scathing and calm. "Some of you have sense it seems. Well," She turned back to the other two. "Test passed. Weaslys, be a dear, yes?"
"W-with the whistle matter settled, it is best that we don't split. The f-floor has some notes but nothing substantial and nothing concrete. We w-would, er, essentially be going in blind. To split up would pose unnecessary risk and danger in case of a s-s-situation." The short one stuttered out. "Keep the whistles, compliment of the academy. But use it if you find something no one else seems to notice or if you get separated."
Zach remained unusually silent, having been outmaneuvered. He just rolled his eyes, hoping no one would catch on. Still, Zach was a leader, he was a leader. He would take the plan and test with grace and move on. Beruk spoke once again, completely ignoring the 'seasoned' explorer. "There you have it. Let's hope there will be no need for a split up. The first floor seems peaceful, but it's out of place to have things about and no one to sit in them or enjoy them. Also, it's lit rather well, but the upper floors appear dark," Beruk looked up, past the stairwell. It was just so, the light faded away past the candles. "You seem to have come prepared at least." Her gaze went to Oram, appreciative.
With that settled, Zach felt the need to speak. "Right well, starting with the first floor. The halls are empty so I suspect that we'll have no trouble," He said, as if led by the feeling of peace. "We'll get the first floor done and then move on to the second. I suppose that works," The explorer shrugged. He needed to seem confident and powerful. Like a true leader and explorer.
The group of eidisi looked on, eyes taking in the surrounding area with keen insight. Beruk tapped Weaslys, who gave each a little notebook full of parchment from his backpack. Each had a quill and a sealable vial of ink. Tia spoke next. "The four of us aren't fighters," She made a subtle shift to look at Rozlam. "But we aren't going to have any problems with you seasoned explorers here, right?" She didn't wait for them to reply before signaling her companions. They grouped in twos, one to draw the map the other to take notes.
"I suppose they'll do their own thing," Zach shrugged. "Let's keep them within sight. Remember to keep your eyes peeled as we work through the place, we wouldn't want to have to fight anything dangerous if it can be avoided," He looked about before adding. "I doubt there's need for concern anyway."
But as he said this Oram and Blathazar would feel a sense of warning. The diri attached to each would sense this too, and might key them in to the fact Zach was off. If that didn't help, they'd all hear Zach's warning, though he had turned awayI am not among you. The diri will hesitateThe diri will not feel any danger from Zach, but they will be hesitant to trust him further..
General Info
Alright alright alright, welcome to the expedition of DOOM!! Nah, I'm joking. This is our introductory post, as such it details some things. This will serve as the meetup as well as the expedition. Should player choice affect it, there could possibly be multiple threads.
Just as open-air, the general status of this thread is low risk. But player action could change that- but don't overthink it. It's better to slip into the mind of your PC than delve into the actions and consequences OOC. I GST/RP with this in mind, and would like to encourage you do the same.
Rules
  1. One post (Per PC) per round. This is too keep things flowing nicely.
  2. You have one week to join the event. If you don't post before me within that time you'll not be able to join later.
  3. NPC's (temporarily) mine, only I use them please no control thx.
  4. Play to your skill level. It helps me if, when you use a skill you maybe put an OOC note or such at the bottom to tell me what your skill is. Not a requirement, but it helps speed things.
  5. This is my first GST. As such, I'm open to pms with questions or clarifications needs. THAT SAID: I will not bend the rules for you. If you do something insanely stupid, regardless of risk level, you get IC consequences depending on severity of the action and circumstances.
Mod Style
Heavily based and referenced off of the style Peg has/is using. Kudos to her and her friend who helped inspire it. There will be a host of objections- some required others not. Though there could be possible achievements in it for those who do them~
What do you mean, ‘You’re gonna die up there’?
Oram felt gratified that the other members of the party listened to his suggestion that they not split up. Beruk’s praise (it was praise, wasn’t it?) left the traveler feeling a bit awkward, though, since it seemed to come at Zach’s expense. He hadn’t wanted to embarrass or show up their leader, but some people were attached to being right all the time, or at least to being seen as right all the time, and took it hard when they weren’t. And Zach acted like he was taking it hard that the group had outvoted him on the question of splitting up. Hopefully, he would get over it.
The man seemed to rally, or at least try to rally at least, and started making decisions again: they would finish exploring the first floor together before proceeding to the second. The eidisi already seemed to have a plan of how to go about that exploring, and largely left Balthazar and Oram alone to do whatever it was they were supposed to do. Oram’s guess was that this was basically: keep the eidisi safe and an eye peeled for the sorts of dangers the scholars wouldn’t notice while they were busy mapping. Oram could certainly do that, and he surmised Balthazar could, too. He wished Vaid’ner were with them. That man’s menagerie of familiars and spirit critters would have been just the thing for reconnoitering this area.
The sentry radiated peace, but Oram didn’t like things or places or unseen entities telling him what to think or how to feel. Oram spread his senses around the room, feeling for the sorts of transient signs and things that a scholar wouldn’t map, but that a hunter like himself might register as possibly indicating danger: an out-of-place movement or sound, a change in temperature or light or air (for example, the fact that the upstairs seemed to have just darkened since they had entered the Sentry), an unaccounted-for sense of presence, anything that didn’t belong in a safe, benign, stable environment. Those senses he was spreading were generally of the ordinary five kinds. The hunter didn’t have magic, nor superhuman hearing, nor attunement to spirits.
Actually, Oram realized, that last bit wasn’t entirely true. He glanced at Amoach questioningly from time to time. Maybe the diri had something to add.
At first, it didn’t, but then Zach turned his back to the rest of the party and seemed to mutter something, almost as if to himself: I am not among you. Had he said that out loud? Oram wasn’t sure, yet somehow, the ominous phrase entered the traveler’s perception, and it definitely came from Zach. A sharp look at Amoach showed that the spirit had picked up on it, and was displeased and concerned. The little tripod pivoted its beady red eyes sharply between their hapless leader and Oram, as its cooking-pot face rotated sharply from side to side in emphatic pantomime of a disapproving head-shake. Then, to Oram’s surprise, the little diri scooted bodily away from Zach, in the same exaggerated, performative way that his friends might distance themselves pointedly from someone in their company who had just farted, or made an especially unpopular remark.
In those circumstances, the effect of gesture was usually comical; however, Amoach was not the joking sort, nor was this an occasion for jests. Oram first glanced over to Balthazar, to see if he could gauge what the mage, and/or the mage’s diri -Fuego, if he remembered right- made of what had just happened. Then he shot a sharp glare at Zach’s back. Since he could not be certain that their leader had actually said anything, he did not want to press him on the odd message. Instead, he took the safer, and less confrontational route of calling out to him gently: ”Hey, Zach! You went quiet there of a sudden. You okay?”
Although he did not wish to openly question Zach’s status in the eidisi’s hearing, Oram also couldn’t help it if they did hear. Figuring out what was happening with their supposed leader was more important than helping Zach save face.
100 Ashan 720
The decision to stay together was made and agreed upon rather swiftly and while the four Eidisi went about drawing their maps and taking their notes. "Well we will still have the same number of problems, you just won't have to deal with them." Balthazar mused aloud to Tia as she went off. There was something strange about this whole situation but Balthazar hadn't figured it out yet. Fuego was acting strangely. He hadn't been one to hide since the return to Faldrass but he was hiding somewhere now. Hiding and watching Zach more intently than he watched most people. Balthazar tried to distract himself from suspicions by looking around but the first floor of the Sentry didn't seem all that remarkable- certainly not worthy of all the time he'd fixated on what it might have been. There were more floors to explore ahead of them though and Balthazar was sure he'd find something interesting.
Zach suggested they keep the Eidisi in sight and Balthazar nodded, looking from one human companion to the next for a trill before he heard something strange. Get out of my head. Balthazar thought back into the void of his mind after hearing the second message. Oram spoke directly to Zach, addressing what it seemed they had both heard and Balthazar seemed to grow a little more tense. Even without his wealth of informative magic at his disposal, he could feel something was incredibly off about the area around them.
"You were right, we wouldn't want to have to fight anything but if we aren't given a choice, we will be alright. Hopefully anything we face here will give us a chance to speak first. Maybe learn."
Snazzy Wrist Bands
  • Tall, Dark, and... Well He Was Always Brooding: Balthazar is now wearing Paradigm cuffs as a part of his sentence which means he no longer had any of his mutations! He still has dark black fingertips and nails from his Bellinos mark but now his hair is brown, shorter, and his eyes are also... brown.
Scars
  • Oops, Oops, Ouch: Balthazar Black has twenty scars across his back from a lashing as well as scars on his hands and arms from jagged rocks in Faldrass. There are two scars on the sides of his abdomen from being stabbed and a slash across his back which blends in with the whip scars.
"I'm fine, yeah. Why? Something wrong?" The expedition head asked curiously. If it was an accusation, it was well hiddenExpert Detection. Zach had seemed out of it sense he touched the door, like the Sentry was a ware of something they were just piecing together. "We certainly might learn something new." He responded all too eagerly, the bubble of excitement for their possible adventure relieving him of any tenseness he showed before.
"If you three are done, the main area is finished. We need to map the two side rooms and move to the next floor," Rozlam spoke up, voice deep. The echo it produced did nothing but solidify the fact that, for the moment, they were alone. If Balthazar and Oram were weary, they could feel of the next room. Something important was there, though they couldn't exactly say what. Something important was there- something they needed to see. Both Diri would feel the same, though they wouldn't hesitate to mention the pull being eerie, they felt no danger from it.
If the headed the call, the pull, it would lead the group of explorers into a library of sorts. Shelves upon shelves, with lose papers here and there of writing in a tongue that seemed odd. Before anyone could speak of it, they noticed Zach remained outside in the hall. He refused to enter, almost as if he couldn't. "I'll
sta-
stand guard." Zach muttered as he turned away. A ripple, like a drop of water in the ocean fell over the skin of his hand, but he noticed quickly and held it to himself. At the same time his voice broke it seemed like he wasn't Zach for a moment, but then all was normal the next trill. To anyone but the eidisi, they'd see the ripple and a wave of skin difference before it settled.
"Right, well. I don't think it would hurt to take a peek at the writings here." Beruk seemed to look at Zach oddly, but she disregarded him for the wealth of possible knowledge around them. Each eidisi picked a book, but found the pages were blank. Should Balthazar or Oram look, something odd would happen if they decided to touchThe books will have writings in them that appear as a ripple to their touch them. Should they react, the eidisi will become confused. "The pages are blank." If either were to let go, the words would once again disappear, but it becomes clear that only the two of them can see the words. Though the text would be unreadable due to the unknown languageAncient Language. "Y-yes. There appear to be no text on them."
